Diner Reviews
  • "The three of us each had a different pasta dish. Everything incredibly flavored and fresh."

  • "We had an eclectic group of 7 -- SF family, Tennessee family with a few picky eaters thrown in. I thought a night in North Beach, Italian food would be fun, but with so many to choose from, I took a chance on Vicoletto based on OpenTable reviews. It was just what I hoped for. The staff was friendly, the food was excellent, and the prices were not so high as to scare our out-of-towners. The picky eater? He ate wild boar with twirled macaroni! Everyone had fun."

  • "My requirement was to have some home made pasta, which every one of their pastas is. The Tagliatelle Fungi with truffle oil was delicious...the mushroom are so savory that you don't miss the meat, and the truffle oil gives off the perfect luxurious aroma."

  • "Vicoletto continues to be our go-to spot for truly amazing Italian food. With an Italian husband and having lived in Italy, we are very picky. We love the tagliatelle with funghi (fresh pasta with mushrooms) as our standby comfort food. I branched out and had the veal scaloppine, which was fantastic, and the gnocci with sausage, burratta and polpette (meatballs) are all divine, great italian wines at good prices. The owner just opened il Casaro, which has Naples-style pizzas, mozzeralla bar, arancini, etc., which is another amazing find - authentic Naples!"

  • "The wait service was great. Food was very good. Pasta fresh and the veal was superb"

  • "The food was very tasty. The wine selection was expansive. It took a bit for the host to see us and check us in."

  • "This restaurant must be a very popular spot because it was packed when we arrived. I made reservations through Open Table a few weeks before, as we were coming to San Fran for vacation. For whatever reason the host didn't have our reservation on file, but they was super accommodating and had a table for 6 set up ASAP. The food was great and the service was as well. Our waiter even gave us a complimentary glass of Moscato for dessert. I recommend Vicoletto to anyone who likes a cozy atmosphere and great homemade pasta!"

  • "We went to Vicoletto before attending Beach Blanket Babylon in North Beach. There were many choices for Italian restaurants in that area, but we made a good one. The service was friendly and efficient. We were made to feel welcome. The food was excellent. I had a Rotoli d Lasagna and my wife had the Gnocchi -- quantities were just right. We were very pleased and would go again. Location is just down the street from the theatre."

  • "A great little spot in North Beach (which is flooded with Italian restaurants) with a great menu and authentic flavors. Décor is classy and a nice spot for a date night."

  • "The food was amazing, and service was very good. The menu is simple, yet unique. Unfortunately there was a large party of harpies seated next to us shrieking throughout our entire dinner, to the extent that we couldn't hear each other speak, hence the 3 star rating. Otherwise, one of the best Italian meals I've had in SF."

  • "Wow on this meal....the black squid pasta was incredible! I wish that I could have enjoyed other dishes as my parents and husband really loved their meals as well. I will be back!"

  • "Excellent food & service; three different pastas were tried - all were outstanding, a highlight was the sformato appetizer. This is as close to dining in Italy as you'll find."

  • "This was a great little spot for our last night's dinner in San Francisco with friends. Food was delicious (try the squid-ink pasta), I had a great Super Tuscan to go along with my food, and everyone enjoyed what they were having. Friendly, good service as well. Recommended for dinner with friends or a nice date dinner."

  • "Very nice spot to enjoy an excellent meal before the crazy show! It is two blocks away. Try the Burrata Mozzerella as an appetizer!"

  • "We had a large group for a birthday dinner and the Vicoletto made it a great night! The staff and service were outstanding, highlighted by the fact that they were very accommodating to our group. The food was great Italian as well. I highly recommend for dinner in North Beach."

  • "4 friends planned a Friday nite dinner, got a referral from yelp. The Place was almost empty at 6:60 on a Friday nite, not a great sign, wine list not as extensive . The noise level was good, we could hear our conversation, which was not to fount at the 100 other Italian restaurants in north beach."

  • "There were six in our party who dined here after a matinee performance of Beach Blanket Babylon. Our table was ready on time, and we did pretty well ordering our food and getting our salads. Then everything ground to a screeching halt. Our entrees took about 45-mins to arrive after we had finished our salad, No updates from our waiter - since he was the only one, he was always busy. The food was good - everyone had a pasta dish and seemed pretty happy. Not sure we would eat here again, though. The place seems understaffed, and one look at the small kitchen helped us understand why the main dishes took so long to arrive. If you come, be sure to allow enough time."

  • "This place is usually great for a nice romantic dinner in the neighborhood, but it really fell short this time. I understand that it was busy due to Valentines Day, but we waited for over 35 minutes to be seated, even though we had a reservation. They seemed short-staffed and the server forgot to bring my glass of wine, so we had to remind him. Not a huge deal, but this meant that I didn't get a glass of wine until we had been in the restaurant for over an hour. The burrata was delicious and I recommend the tagliatelle. The desserts from the pre fixe menu were good, but boring. We have been here for Valentines Day in years past and it was never this disorganized. Maybe best to just come in for a glass of wine and an app at the bar."

  • "We love this place, it's our go-to place for special occasions and any time we want really good Italian food. Homemade pastas are amazing, as is the fish and everything else we've had there. The owner is from Calabria in the south of italy, where my husband is from and I've spent a lot of time, and the food takes us back to Italy.... fabulous!"

  • "Overall solid good comfort food. Appreciate the large selection of Dine about Town Menu. The restaurant has a quiet, calm, romantic, suttle, calming feel. Small restaurant, but can probably accommodate 1-2 larger parties. Ravioli Lobster and Taglierini black ink squid pasta were the highlights."

  • "I came for Dine About Town 2014 and ended up ordering off the regular menu. The price was about the same- I just didn't get a dessert. The food was great, everyone in our group enjoyed their dish."

  • "When we arrived at the restaurant they were ready for our party of 15 and we were seated immediately. The staff was attentive and friendly and the food was absolutely terrific! Very Italian. The restaurant is only a block or so away from Club Fugazi (Beach Blanket Babylon), so it was very convenient for our large party to walk to the show after dinner. We definitely plan to return."

  • "I had found this place as a good italian place in the financial district. I prefer the smaller restaurants, and this place is just perfect. It was a great idea to get reservations as the small placed filled up quick - and for good reason. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautiful. The staff is kind and great at their job."

  • "loved the menu. reminded me so much of my last trip to Italy. Pasta dishes were so wonderful. an understated casual environment. don't let that fool you because the food is amazing. Very inviting. Will visit again next time we are in the city."

  • "My husband can't eat a lot of things, but I get tired of the steady diet of Asian and Mexican food he can tolerate. This Italian restaurant with a fine chef in the kitchen was such a treat. He got delicious gluten-free penne pasta with cauliflower, adjusted to his needs, and I got amazing, top-notch corvina bass with spinach, farro and mustard sauce. The kitchen was slow, but it was well worth the wait. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Food was very good and very "high=-end" for the price (really reasonable).. Wonderful papardelle with funghi and truffle oil and wonderful sea bass -- about the best that our adult party of four had ever tasted. Also great appetizer of burrata and eggplant with excellent and different dressing. Friendly vibrant atmosphere-- casual with no table cloths but sophisticated and delicious food. We went during Dine About SF and it was full and I thought they needed another waiter so I only gave it 4 stars for service instead of 5. We will definitely go back.."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here with a reservation for Dine about Town. So that meant we could get a 3-course meal for about $35 each, which is what we got. My girlfriend got bruschetta, pork chop stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella, and chocolate lava cake. I got wild boar meatballs, tagliatelle with braised pork ribs, and chocolate lava cake. All of the food was great. We had to wait 5-10 minutes for our server to greet us though. We also got a few glasses of wine, which are mostly Italian options. We were very happy with the wine options because we haven't had many Italian wines yet."

  • "Vicoletto made us wait for 30 minutes when we had a reservation, even though their were 5 empty tables. As new patrons came in, they sat them immediately, without even having the courtesy to give us an update. There are hundreds of delicious Italian restaurants in San Francisco, so service should be taken into consideration when choosing a place. If you don't mind waiting with no updates when you have a reservation, while dealing with a rude host, then this is the place for you!"

  • "On New Year's Eve we called to say we were running late because we couldn't find parking and they offered up their "no parking" spot in front of the restaurant--this was probably a rare exception, but it certainly prevented our NYE plans from going off the rails, and for that we are very grateful! Also, the fact that they could accommodate a gluten-free patron on an evening when all they had was a fixed-price menu also says a lot of their commitment to service. We will certainly be going back!"

  • "lovely restaurant in North Beach, not touristy. the foods was good, but we expected "incredibile": the stuffed port chop was a bit dry (my wife and I had this entre)."

  • "I did a ton of yelp searching before settling on this little place, and it did not disappoint. The pasta was fresh and delicious - I got mushroom, but tried a bite of the black squid ink. Both were great, although I was hungry later in the evening. Service was friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend!!"

  • "New Years Eve dinner. A little slow seating us but after that the service was great. Food was terrific including salad, sea bass and ravioli. Would go back."

  • "Food was excellent and this place is definitively a little gem. As it was New Year's Eve they had a price fixed menu, which was good with lots of choices, but I would love to go back on a normal weekend to check out the regular menu. Nice simple decor as well. Entree portions didn't seem quite consistent though. Unfortunately on this occasion there was a party of about 8 people who were very noisy and we felt that the staff should have asked them to tone it down a bit. It was a struggle to hear what the other one was saying and our neighbours felt the same. In all a very good experience apart from the noise levels."

  • "The food, atmosphere and staff were great! We were visiting San Francisco and was glad to get out of the busy Union Square area and into an area that we had not had a chance to walk around in...it is a hidden gem in a quieter neighborhood!"
