From the moment we walked in, the ambiance and service was excellent.
The great food only added to the wonderful overall experience. We had a party of six, and each course was served at
the same time, so we could enjoy the meal. The waiters kept a discreet
distance, however, our wine glasses were filled when needed.. It was a leisurely
dinner. We were not rushed throughout the three course dinner. We were there to celebrate an anniversary and birthday. During the after dinner drinks we were given complimentary desserts. Two large plates with 'Happy Birthday"
and 'Happy Anniversary" written on them. Wonderful dense chocolate cake/homemade chocolate ice cream. You must go!!!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous as AlwaysFabulous as always. Such a lovely spot, with its beautiful back garden seating. The wait staff is so friendly and efficient and the food is always well prepared and tasty, beautifully arrayed. The restaurant is very conscientious about getting you out on time for theater curtains and doublechecks when they reconfirm your reservations. Very thougthful. The staff took good care of us and made sure we got out in time even though one of our party was running late. In addition they presented my niece with a decorated dessert plate for her birthday. I have had dinner pretheatre in restaurants in the area and appreciate the spacing of the tables and the lovely little courtyard out back. The food is outstanding -- you will never go wrong ordering any kind of fish. This time it was halibut, expertly prepared and very attractively presented. The grilled vegetables and dessert rounded out the perfect meal. The wine list has some great selections at reasonable prices. Our server seemed a bit inexperienced, and hurried the meal a bit too much given that we were not dining during the pre-theater hours. Was looking for a place for dinner prior to a show at the Gershwin Theatre and this place was perfect. Very congenial and attentive service. This place pleased my 13 year old son, my 80 year old mother and happily, us 50 something year olds. Would definitley visit again on another trip into New York. You could tell this is a neighbourhood gem to the lucky locals. By the way, they have a wonderful outdoor area that is in the centre of the restaurant for when the weather permits. Very limited wine list. The 2007 Barolo I ordered they did not have and they tried to give me a 2008 for the same price. I'm not a wine snob, but if you like wine as I do, you know that the 2007 vintage is much better than '08. I believe mgmt could of done a better job with telling their waiters of certain items which are not available on the menu. For example, we were interested in ordering the arancini with truffles as an appetizer to find out they were out of this. How can they be out of this if we were the 1st seating that evenning @ 5:30pm. The pasta Chitarra with lump crabmeat was delicious.
