Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was perfect - except the weather. We would have preferred a table in the little patio in front - next time. The waiter was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and had a great smile! I ordered the salmon and it was perfect. My date had the fish special and loved it. During our meal, one of the owners (Dave) came over to greet us and check on our experience. While the piano player was average, he played an old standard I enjoyed. As we were leaving, he gave me one of his CD's. What a nice touch! We had reservations, and I would recommend it. The restaurant was continually full. The tables in the center are a bit too close together for me, but next time I'll request the lovely booth in the corner."

  • "The food here is delicious time and time again! I highly recommend the meatball salad and their pink vodka sauce on any pasta!"

  • "Everything was delicious. Especially liked the burrata appetizer that was infused with a herbed olive oil. The best!"

  • "This place is great. Always. The food is fantastic, the entertainment equally so. And the help seems to remember everyone that comes in. A pleasure in a world of chains."

  • "We called ahead to say we would be late and had no issues being seated right away on arrival. My wife and I were dressed down for sure as we were going to Club Neo in the neighborhood after diner (goth for sure) and we got the same level of service as expected. We ordered cocktails and they came back tasty and strong. The appetizer of a meatball salad was very good and mail course of the meat platter huge and everything on it cooked and tasted very good. We split both between us and had plenty of food and plenty left over. The waiter even brought me an extra drink that the bartender made for someone else but did not want and gave to me for free. The owner came by and we talked and joked. Everyone very nice and personable."

  • "We enjoyed our visit, seated on the patio area - being next to Fullerton Parkway is a challenge but the fairly high walls and decorations helped mute the traffic somewhat. The special appetizer (burrata cheese injected with pesto, and grilled cherry tomatoes) was tasty. Chicken piccata was cooked nicely. The sauteed lake perch was more along the lines of fish and chips, as there were five or so strips of fish (had been expecting a filet of fish instead). However the fish was cooked nicely (the garlic mashed potatoes could have used a bit more garlic also). Service was attentive throughout the dinner, although we did have a fairly long wait for the bill (but our server apologized for the wait). Overall a nice dinner."

  • "I was looking for a restaurant close to Victory Gardens theater and chose Viaggio after seeing them listed on the theater's website with a discount for theater goers. What a great find. I took my mother for her birthday and she loved it. The salmon was amazing. Great wine. Wonderful service. We will definitely return."

  • "Great selections on menu PLUS daily specials. Recently brought my whole family. Picky relative proclaimed it Best Italian food in Chicago (and he's Italian). Meatball salad is a must-try."

  • "A weekend in Chicago for dinner and a show proved to be over the top when we found Viaggio at the Park...my wife and I enjoyed an EXCELLENT meal with service that was equal to the meal. Exceeded our expectations by far."

  • "This is some of the best Italian in Chicago, I know there are tons of great places to try like Rosebud's or other places in Little Italy, but this place will blow you away. Everything we had was fantastic, Dover Sole de-boned at your table to the extra spicy diavolo. We will be back for sure. Try to get a table with Eddie, he was fantastic."

  • "My wife and I have gone several times. Always good service and fabulous food. Last time was an for anniversary celebration. They were aware of this and helped us celebrate. Very classy. Opera singers on weekends are top talents, Lyric opera chorus leve."

  • "We have been to the original Viaggio on Randolph with friends. This location is great too with excellent food and friendly staff. The wine list is well priced."

  • "If you want great Italian food and plenty of it, go to Viaggio at the Park. The ambience is very nice and the wait staff is very accommodating."

  • "When the roasted peppers arrived with the hot bread, I knew I'd be visiting this neighborhood gem again soon. The friendly, knowledgeable service added to the dining experience. Try the tender, juicy Brick Chicken, seasoned perfectly with thyme and rosemary, and save room for the salted caramel gelato. It's worth it!"

  • "Great roasted peppers as a starter. Delicious calamari, the Brick Chicken was amazing, and the pasta was perfect. service was fine, the meal took a bit longer than we expected to arrive, but I'm guessing it was due to the Brick Chicken. Big portions. The noise level is highly energetic... piano bar and lots of patron chatter, but it won't stop us from returning. "

  • "This place is great for special occasions, service is excellent and food is very good. We loved the live piano music and the fact that we could talk and hear each other perfectly. They also have valet parking as street parking is the only downside of the location."

  • "Randomly stumbled into when family was in town not knowing what to expect. Wow! What a find! Food, service and experice was amazing; you had to roll us home! I would recommend this to anyone for a date night to a group outing. "

  • "Viaggio offers some top flight traditional Italian food. All of the salads, appetizers, pastas, and veal and chicken entrees are very good. The service is efficient and friendly and the management is always welcoming and considerate. They have a nice, moderately priced wine list and they also have one of the prettiest bartenders in all of Chicago! Wwe love this place!"

  • "Delicious northern Italian food expertly prepared and presented. Professional attentive service. But the dining experience is undercut by the dated decor (white and burgundy) and the awfully loud live pianist playing monotonous pop tunes. Sit as far from the piano as possible or better yet, don't go at all until they remodel. West Loop location much better, go there."

  • "The service and setting trump the food at Viaggio but all in all it is a very nice neighborhood option for those looking for decent Italian food. Stand outs were the Meatball salad and the Veal Marsala-not so good the Seafood risotto and the Filet of Sole. Our waiter Felipe was outstanding and the room was wonderful-including the round table for the 5 of us!We really liked the look of the outdoor patio-definitely will try to sit outside on our next visit."

  • "We went for dinner on Mothers Day, they were busy, but with our reservation, we were promptly seated? The wine list is very nice and the food was absolutely amazing - the bolognese sauce melted in your mouth and the eggplant was superb! May have been the best Italian I have had in the city!"

  • "Always a great evening at Viaggio. Our waiter took great care of us, and was fantastic about special orders for the kids. The food is fantastic, and even the kids (one picky eater) look over the menu before making their selection. "

  • "My Mom was ecstatic about her dinner on Mother's Day. She ordered Veal Marsala, I had the Dover Sole, and daughter had the Spicy Seafood Linguini. We had a delicious meal and nice service."

  • "Have been back several times, everything is always exceptional. "

  • "The quality of the food was only fair. However, what particularly bothered me was that the waiter named the specials without giving the prices. One of the specials turned out to be $55, a price we wouldn't have known about until one of our party asked because he had been "burned" before. "

  • "This must be my favorite place in all of Chicago! From the owner to the bus staff... Always pleasant, respectful, friendly, accommodating, and know how to make everyone who walks through their doors feel like family. Food is amazing and service is even better. We called to say we had a 6 month old with us- no problem. Then we called to say we were running late- no problem. We lost track of time from talking so much that we were last table in the restaurant-- Once again, -no problem. I love love love this place. "

  • "The food was terrific. Service was a little slow. But that is better than feeling rushed. Room is loud. A little Hard to have conversation. They had a beautiful girl that walked through the small Resturant evey so often singing beautiful opera. What a treat. I will be back for the meatball salad for sure."

  • "The food was excellent as expected. My comments for this review are geared toward service. I let Dave the owner know that it was my friend's birthday. Dave comped one round of drinks plus as we were leaving to sit down, the bartender pushed the bottle towards us and said here you go!, we assumed on the house. Our bill included $30 for the bottle and a charge for Tirimusu that we didn't order. Terrible management choices. Will never go back to this location again, and I will be posting a complete yelp review. I didn't say anything about the bill because I didn't want the birthday girl to feel uncomfortable. Never going back."

  • "First of all, the food was outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised. That being said, I think the prices are a bit too high and they should at least warn you about the specials pricing. I was the only one who ordered off the menu, where the highest price entree was around $36, I believe. My veal saltimbocca was $26 which is reasonable. My son and daughter ordered seafood risotto and each was $40. My wife ordered sole and it was $55. That pricing is high, and the very least they could do was provide that info when you order."

  • "Our experience was phenomenal! We got there pretty much as they were closing but there was no rush and everyone was extremely friendly. The food was very very good especially the roasted peppers they bring out to snack on before any food arrives! As well as the oil and cheese! I'm a sucker for the homestyle italian! The owner was extremely nice. Came over and introduced himself and made you feel very important in his place! Definitely will go back to try so much more of the moderately large menu!"
