Diner Reviews
  • "This must be my favorite place in all of Chicago! From the owner to the bus staff... Always pleasant, respectful, friendly, accommodating, and know how to make everyone who walks through their doors feel like family. Food is amazing and service is even better. We called to say we had a 6 month old with us- no problem. Then we called to say we were running late- no problem. We lost track of time from talking so much that we were last table in the restaurant-- Once again, -no problem. I love love love this place. "

  • "Our experience was phenomenal! We got there pretty much as they were closing but there was no rush and everyone was extremely friendly. The food was very very good especially the roasted peppers they bring out to snack on before any food arrives! As well as the oil and cheese! I'm a sucker for the homestyle italian! The owner was extremely nice. Came over and introduced himself and made you feel very important in his place! Definitely will go back to try so much more of the moderately large menu!"

  • "The food was excellent as expected. My comments for this review are geared toward service. I let Dave the owner know that it was my friend's birthday. Dave comped one round of drinks plus as we were leaving to sit down, the bartender pushed the bottle towards us and said here you go!, we assumed on the house. Our bill included $30 for the bottle and a charge for Tirimusu that we didn't order. Terrible management choices. Will never go back to this location again, and I will be posting a complete yelp review. I didn't say anything about the bill because I didn't want the birthday girl to feel uncomfortable. Never going back."

  • "First of all, the food was outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised. That being said, I think the prices are a bit too high and they should at least warn you about the specials pricing. I was the only one who ordered off the menu, where the highest price entree was around $36, I believe. My veal saltimbocca was $26 which is reasonable. My son and daughter ordered seafood risotto and each was $40. My wife ordered sole and it was $55. That pricing is high, and the very least they could do was provide that info when you order."

  • "The food was terrific. Service was a little slow. But that is better than feeling rushed. Room is loud. A little Hard to have conversation. They had a beautiful girl that walked through the small Resturant evey so often singing beautiful opera. What a treat. I will be back for the meatball salad for sure."

  • "I didn't know quite what to expect, and I walked away quite happy (and stuffed!) I had my sole; my date had chicken vesuvio. Nice bottle of Barbera region wine for $40. I thought this was much better than neighborhood staples Basil Leaf and not quite as good as Ricardo Enoteca. Will definitely be back."

  • "I recently visited Viaggio for a best friend's dinner outing and we were not disappointed. The service was outstanding; the food was moderate. I expected the food that we received to be better than usual but I can't complain, it was decent. The ambiance was pleasant. Overall I can't complain, we had a great time. I plan to visit in the summer to dine outside."

  • "I have walked by this restaurant hundreds of times, and I am so glad I finally tried this restaurant last night. Our server was wonderful but not overbearing. We never felt rushed, but he was there when we needed him. We shared the eggplant appetizer which was beautiful and delicious! The kitchen was kind enough to split the appetizer without us asking which was a welcome surprise. We both ordered pasta dishes, Veal Ragout and Penne in the Park. I asked that they swap the sauce on the penne and they were very accommodating. We both really enjoyed our entrees, and after the yummy bread and appetizer we each had half of our entrees to take home. Towards the end of our meal there was an opera singer, a unique touch, though hard to chat."

  • "We have been to Viaggio 3times in the last 5 months. It has the charm & comfort of a restaurant in Florence or Rome. It is a wonderful upscale addition to the Lincoln Park neighborhood."

  • "Nothing like amazing Italian food/red wine to help ease the winter blues! Went here for GNO on a Friday night, we had 7pm reservations and were seated promptly. Our server, Danny, was very attentive as well as patient. We must have chatted sipping wine for 30 mins before we ever ordered ;) All of us ordered different dishes (suggestions per Danny) and each of us tasted the others. I have to say we were all more than pleased with our selections! Viaggio will be on our "return to restaurant list"!"

  • "We came to celebrate my husband's very special birthday and as usual were greeted warmly and were even given the Tirimisu for desert, complimentary. My husband said it is the best Tirimisu he's ever had. The service at Viaggio is outstanding. The food is always done to perfection and plenty of it. This is our favorite place to dine and we want everyone we know to try it if you haven't as it's a neighborhood gem but also a top notch restaurant besides! Thank you for being in our part of town, Viaggio!"

  • "I live just a 20 minute walk away, but it took a relative coming to visit for me to first check this place out. Our waiter was very friendly and the food was incredible. Since we ordered appetizers and dessert, I look home half of my meal and it was just as good the next day. The owner even came by to ask how we were doing. Three or four times while we were dining (I was there for 3 1/2 hours, having arrived a bit early for my reservation) a woman came out, walked around the small restaurant, and sang opera. She was very talented, but during the song it was hard to continue your conversation due to the increased noise level (there are very nice acoustics in the space). It was awkward to have to stop your conversation at these moments."

  • "My husband and I had an early reservation on New Year's Eve. We were warmly greeted by Viaggio staff, whose customer service skills are outstanding to begin with...Enjoyed a cocktail at the bar before being seated for an exceptional meal. Meatball salad is a must! After much discussion about delectable choices, we decided to share one of the specials - - a rib eye on the bone. The entree was cooked so perfectly that one would have thought we were at one of the finest steak restaurants in the city...Very attentive and charming wait staff. Great way to celebrate."

  • "I have been to the big name italian food restaurants. This place tops them all. The food is delicious. Everyone in our party tried a different dish and we all loved what we ordered. The meat ball salad is a hit! The hand rolled pasta is stuff dreams are made of. If you are thinking of a place to go- GO HERE!"

  • "Viaggio is so good that I have been back twice in a week! Everything about it is perfect. I love the hosts and wait staff as a matter of fact they hired my favorite waiter of 20 some odd years, Phillipe away from Fillipos. The food is incredible. We have ordered, and shared, a host of appetizers both times I have gone. It is the perfect size and the flavors are incredible. My favorites are the grilled seafood platter and the seafood risoto. And, I love that they bring you incredible bread with to-die-for home made oil oil with whole garlic and rosemary marinating in the bottle and grated parmesan cheese for starters along with their backed sweet peppers in oil. Its a GREAT restaurant with a small amount of valet parking. Love It."

  • "A great option for us when seeing a show at Park West. Everyone enjoyed their food, but nothing unique or special. Just well executed Italian style entrees ranging from pasta to meat dishes."

  • "We went, for the first time, to Viaggio at the Park and are we glad we did. Everything about this hidden gem is outstanding. Even though it is in the first floor of a building on Fullerton between Lincoln Park West and Clark, I never noticed it in the day time. Or noticed that it has valet parking. As soon as you walk in the door, the experience is amazing. The owner greets you and is charming. They are attentive and you are whisked to your table. And, the food is too die for. The entrees are expensive but appetizers are incredible & huge serving sizes. We had: the grill seafood platter, fried calamari & seafood risoto. My favorite - the seafood platter. I poured their homemade oil oil on top & WOW!! Amazing. I was in heaven."

  • "Our party of four were well-pleased with our experience at Viaggio on the Park. Stand-out dishes were the "Spinach Salad" and the "Lasagna." Absolutely delicious! The service was superb, especially since Chicago was weathering a tornado at the time and we were the only diners for the early post-theatre dinner hour. Thanks to all."

  • "This restaurant was great. We went here for my husbands birthday and even though we didnt have a reservation (I messed it up on Open Table), they were able to put the two of us at the best table they had. Great music and we both really enjoyed the food. We also got a bottle of champagne. A little pricey but not too bad for our special occasion :-)"

  • "It was a bust Saturday night and our table was ready when expected. Friendly greeting by host and hostess. Best meatballs ever! My wife wanted pasta carbonara which is not on the menu at this location. The waiter said they'll make it and they did, but the flavor was way off, especially compared with everything else we've ever eaten here. So stick to the menu and you'll love what you order. The opera singer added to the ambience."

  • "My husband and I dined here on a recent weekend getaway to Chicago for our Anniversary. We ordered the special appetizer, toasted bread drizzled in olive oil with a ball of fresh mozzerella and roasted whole cherry tomatoes. It was amazing! I usually go for a good Bolognese sauce but a last minute discussion with the waiter prompted me to get the veal ragu over Parpadelle noodles instead. It was so amazing! The waiter was really fun and the right mix of attentive but without being annoying. We had mentioned in passing to the host upon checking in that it was our anniversary, and he remembered and told the waiter to bring us a free dessert. It was also fabulous, the molten chocolate cake with a side of sea salt caramel gelato."
