Diner Reviews
  • "It's been 20 years since I was last here and back then Via Real was on the cutting edge of southwestern cuisine. I was delighted to see they haven't lost their edge. Great meal. I won't wait 20 years before I come back again."

  • "The service was great and the food amazing! Try the squash enchiladas- you won't be disappointed!"

  • "I've taken three groups and two individuals to Via Real in the last couple months -- all first-timers, and all very impressed. It's one of my favorite restaurants for great food, service and ambience. A little pricey, but not overly so."

  • "The first time I dined at Via Real was on Friday night 7/11/14. I made my reservation through Open Table with a special request for a romantic , quite table. This was a very important date for me. Via Real exceeded all of my request. Our server's name was Kevin. Recommend him. The food was absolutely fantastic. Fran, the owner, came by our table, sat for a short time, and visited with us. If you do not like the food, you need to get your taste buds checked. It was so great, we went back for Via Real's Sunday Brunch...$21 a person and worth so much more."

  • "I had not been to Via Real in almost 20 years. Our party of 6 was very pleased--the service was outstanding, friendly, never rushed. The food was way above any other Mexican restaurant fare. I will go back, much sooner this time!"

  • "A very enjoyable experience for our first time here. The owner Fran glides thru the room talking to every table. Will be heading back time and again."

  • "We are a many time returning customer, have never wrote a review, but have to let all know. This place is Amazing. The Service, the Food, the Ambiance. Simply Perfect. Awesome place to spend time with that Special Person in your life."

  • "We enjoyed having new choices for mexican food instead of the old standbys. My husband and I are vegan and they have excellent spinach or squash enchiladas or the tasty vegetable fajatas. Their salsa and chips are light and spicy. We had guests in from out of town and they enjoyed the variety. Our waiter sounded authentic which sometimes made communicating hard with all the noise level in the restaurant."

  • "Via Real is still the wonderful restaurant it was when the last time I went which was 14 years ago. Of course the menu has changed since then but this place is still as wonderful and fabulous as it was back then. I'm certainly not going to wait that long to go back again!"

  • "It is always a delight to dine at Via Real. Each dish is well presented, the food is fresh and delicious and each meal is an experience. The atmosphere is very pleasant with the staff being discretely available for service allowing the guests to enjoy their meal at a leisurely pace. When we want to celebrate an anniversary, special birthday or entertain out of town friends, this is our restaurant of choice. One feels welcome in this restaurant as a valued customer. For us, it is a pleasurable dining experience."

  • "Via Real is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is FAR above any chain Mexican food and the service has been consistently oustanding. I really like to take my business teams there for dinner."

  • "Food was on OK, I had been for lunch before, dinner was overpriced for what you received Chips and Salsa were good, the house margarita was good."

  • "We a dinner with friends and the place was crowded on a Thursday night. The wait staff was in no hurry to take and order but when they did the food was brought quickly. The quality of the food however was very poor. Very disappointing for a restaurant that has been in business for so long."

  • "A group of four ate at Via Real for dinner on a Tuesday night. I was glad we made reservations because the place was packed. The menu all looked really good with specialty entrees along with 'normal' Mexican foods. They also had a specials menu which the waiter came and showed us what an actual plate looked like. He also listed an extra one that wasn't on any menu. Sea Bass over pineapple chutney. Three of the four of us ordered the sea bass and the fourth ordered a filet. It was the sea bass was the best I have ever had. We all loved it. The filet was also very good and cooked perfectly. The salsa and guacamole were also very good. The pace was set very slow so we were able to visit with each other but by the end it became too slow."

  • "We went for Sunday brunch and enjoyed the variety--omelettes made to order (yum!!), waffles, Mexican entrees, lobster bisque--huge variety--all fresh and beautifully presented. We never felt rushed and our server was attentive without being intrusive--we were, after all, three close friends sharing special time together. Couldn't have picked a better place to do it!"

  • "Great place! Ian our waiter was outstanding. Delicious food. We lived in Mexico for 4 years so it stood up to our expectations. Yum!"

  • "I took my daughter, my fifteen year old granddaughter, and my wife for a quick meal prior to attending the theater. Our waiter was very friendly when we arrived, but when it was obvious that we weren't going to spend a lot of money on drinks, appetizers, etc. he turned completely cold toward us. He never came back to check on us during the meal, and even brought us our bill without asking if we wanted dessert or anything else. His sour attitude put a damper what could have been a delightful outing."

  • "This restaurant was outstanding. My wife and I ate dinner here after our wedding, before we left for our honeymoon. There was a bottle of champagne ready when we arrived and they made the entire night unforgettable. Overall a great experience."

  • "Via Rita - very good! Try it on the rocks..... Queso and special empanadas...great way to start! Copper River Salmon and Tacos de Res....More winners!! Key Lime pie was great!! Also tried the pecan caramel cheesecake. The pecan caramel part was good, but the cheesecake itself was kind of dry and bland.... Oh well..... This is a very nice place with very good food. Miguel did a great job as our waiter!!!! We came here about a year ago and had a good experience, so we came back. Glad to see it was consistently good again! Put this in the "definitely recommend" column!"

  • "We have liked Via Real in the past, but this visit, and the last few visits, have been disappointing. The service is rude and inefficient. When we did not order drinks, the waiter disappeared for about 15 minutes. We told the waiter we had to leave at a certain time to get to the theater, but that did not seem to impress him. It took a long time for the food to arrive, and it came out cold, indicating that it had been sitting for some time before the waiter picked it up. In short, the slow, unfriendly service makes the dining experience unacceptable."

  • "Went here with my wife and two friends and had a wonderful time. The food and drink were excellent and the servers were very knowledgable. The owner stopping by to say hello was also a nice personal touch. In general, I would say you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu but I thought the seafood dishes were especially good. We definitely will be back. Maybe next time we will try the tequila dinner (different tequila with each course) that a table near us was enjoying. "

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time! The food is spectacular and the service is nothing less than wonderful. I especially love that the owner ALWAYS makes her rounds to say hello to ALL her guests. It's a great personal touch! It's a great place for special occasions or just to drop in. Pricing is moderate and I have never had a bad dish. Love! My husband and I have a special place in our heart for this place: first date, my undergrad dinner, engagement and anniversaries!"

  • "As always, Via Real is a Real Treat. Fran runs a top notch restaurant which sets itself apart from other top restaurants with a combination of cool interior design, ambience, excellent food, and some of the best service we have received compared to other high end steak houses around the USA. The food is on par with other top notch places, however when you factor in the better prices and service, the value surpasses the others. We have come here many times for many years and will continue to do so. Our last waiter, Jimmy, was excellent."

  • "We're never disappointed when we come to Via Real. The food is always delicious and the margaritas are outstanding. The waitstaff is attentive; this dinner's waiter Diego being no exception. I ventured out from my favorite escalopas to the chef's special tenderloin. The steak knife really wasn't necessary. The butter knife could easily cut through the tender beef. The wood-fire grill makes the steak very flavorful. This tied for the top steak I've had in the DFW area. It was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, which were both quite good. We finished our meal with blueberry creme brulee. My husband was tempted to lick the bowl, but he settled for scraping the sides until there was none left."

  • "I took my parents here to celebrate Mother's Day. Via Real had a great buffet with an omelet station and Tex Mex favorites. Also, great desserts in the perfect small portion size so we could try several. "

  • "Via Real is our favorite restaurant and has been for many years. It's never let us down -- nor anyone we've referred it to or brought with us. I highly recommend Via Real."

  • "This was my first time as I do not frequent Irving and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a little hard to find because it's in a huge shopping center. GPS will get you to the shopping center. It has a large menu which is both TexMex and Southwestern cuisine, and blended between the two. Equally attractive is that there are some dishes (such as quesadillas) which have full and half order options. It's a large restaurant. I think it's ideal for groups such as a bunch of company employees, or committee meetings to discuss business over lunch or to get away from discussing business. Service was great as well. I would go back again."

  • "Currently, I work at a very well known fine dining establishment in Downtown FT. Worth so I am accoustomed to eating delicious food. So without writing a bunch of mumbo jumbo about the foods depth of character, just note that Via Real is the real deal. Period."

  • "This restaurant is located just across the street from The Four Season's Resort. The decor was extremely comfortable, cheery and very upscale. The food was some of the best Mexican cuisine I have had and the service was exceptional. The shrimp dishes were special. A definite go to restaurant."
