Via MattaThank you Via Matta!I would like to thank Peter and Via Matta for making my husband's 50th birthday dinner a special and memorable event! The food was spectacular (as always - every dish is consistently fresh and delicious), and the service was warm and attentive. Peter has always made us feel special, like long lost friends, and this night was no different. He greeted us at the door with a hug and "happy 50th", gave us a great table on the quieter side (we had our parents with us), and showered us with treats throughout the night. So thoughtful and sweet. We can't thank you enough! Can't wait to return for our usual lovely dinners outside on the beautiful patio. Via is our go-to restaurant for any occasion. Do yourself a favor and go!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent DinnerWe thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and service. Menu had great selection.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLunchExtraordinary meal. Crunchy eggplant, Pappardelle with braised lamb, mushrooms, mint and parmigiano, Ravioli filled with corn (a special that day). Should be special every day. Chocolate mousse with coconut gelato and more.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at Via Matta was aDinner at Via Matta was a wonderful experience. The food and drinks were wonderful and service was friendly and attentive: try the mascarporeos for dessert. Will definitely recommend and will definitely go back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food! EverythingOutstanding food! Everything was excellent, best meal I've had in a very long time! Lovely room, service attentive but not hovering. A bit noisy, however. For a group, a long table can be set up in the separate but connected bar area.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMVia Matta has never disappointedVia Matta has never disappointed us in the many times we have dined here. The menu is innovative but not far out. The food portions are just right. Antipasti were exceptional: buratta with fig puree, tiny crispy meatballs in heavenly sauce, and a unique eggplant dish tha tiny needed a dash more salt. Pasta: pappardelle with lamb and the cavatelli with crab and sea urchin were excellent. All our main courses, branzino, pork chop, chicken, and veal were delicious. Desserts: panna cotta and the pear torta were worth the indulgence. Good espresso, nice wine list. Perfecto!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and gluten-free friendlyOur food was wonderful and we took advantage of the half-portion pasta option to try a few different things. All were delicious! The service was very attentive and despite ordering wine, 2 appetizers, and 8 half-portion entrees the meal was reasonably priced. Gluten-free pasta is available for substitution on any of the pasta dishes and the two I tried were excellent (a sea urchin dish and one with braised lamb). Highly recommended.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMan nice eveningService was good and the spicy calamari appetizer is rally nicely done, sautéed not fried!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AManother excellent dining experienceanother excellent dining experience at via matta... love their made in house pasta and that they happily will serve a half portion so you can sample more than one or have an entree as well without over-eating.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to Via Matta severalI've been to Via Matta several times and it never disappoints. I ordered the barolo by the glass which was succulent on its own, but then I also had the papparadelle with lamb ragu and I thought perhaps I had died a little bit. In between I managed to snarf down the best grilled octopus I'd ever tasted to date. It was seasoned with the perfect amount of herbs to give it flavor and just the right amount of salt, but nothing too over-powering. The texture was perfect as well---it's hard to get octopus right, but they did it. But back to the papparadelle. Let's put it this way, I avoid gluten for a number of health reasons, but this dish was worth breaking my food rules and living with the consequences.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous dining!!The best Italian food anywhere in Boston. Great service, fresh fish and the waiters are so friendly. The food is really special and the oil and vinegar they give with the bread is to die for.
We will always go back here when in Boston.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMevery time when we visit Bostonevery time when we visit Boston for marathon - we must to have a dinner at this restaurant. one of the best dining experiences. chef's whimsical sample menu - beyond good4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVia Matta never disappointsVia Matta never disappoints. From their eclectic wine list, fabulous heavy crusted bread and homemade pasta selections, they are thee go to place for a great Italian culinary experience.
I'll be back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious pappardelle withDelicious pappardelle with braised lamb; the pasta was beautiful - and beautifully cooked. Lovely service. Continues to be one of my favorites.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!Delizioso! Amazing. Can't stop thinking about the eggplant appetizer and the ricotta appetizer. Fantastic!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food, always loveFabulous food, always love this place, our go to restaurant when we stay in Boston3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience our firstGreat experience our first time there and we can't wait to go back. Great Service3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMService was very nice. FoodService was very nice. Food was very good. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Panacotta was out of this world. I mean it, I have tried fare share of those. Over all very good experience. Would definitely recommend it.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed the cocktails immenseley.Enjoyed the cocktails immenseley. Wish our table had not been right next to the waiter/waitress station. Made it very busy with people constantly brushing back and forth. We split several different entrees and a salad and the kitchen happily plated them for us. A nice touch.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat A Fantastic Meal!I thought everything about our dinner on March 15th was superb, from the whole fish (sea bass) to the accompanying vegetables to the Italian Gelato with Averna for dessert.
The service was very attentive without feeling hovered over, and the noise level was very acceptable, which I often find a distraction at other restaurants.
All in all, I would highly recommend this to anyone.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWow. Gorgeous presentationWow. Gorgeous presentation . imaginative ingredients.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI came here with a livingI came here with a living social and found it completely worth it. The bread to start was delicious. The crunchy eggplant starter tasted fresh. I had the mushroom pasta and my friend had the shrimp sausage dish. Both were delicious. We shared the marscarpone oreo dessert which was definitely yummy, but I wish we had gone with something more decadent. Overall great experience and I would go back.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMwill definitely be back! The last time I was here was several years ago, and boy do I wish I'd come back sooner! service was impeccable, host was pleasant, space is lovely. I particularly like the lighting. food was DELISH. duck melted in my mouth, i am craving it again already only days later. even simple spaghetti with tomato sauce was so so good, a lot of garlic, just as it should be. only downside was the first bread order was hard as rocks, but the second basket they brought was soft and tasty. this was a minor, minor non essential issue. wish we had ordered more food so i could have tried more of the menu. prices aren't too bad, especially considering their competitors. would definitely go back.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were very disappointedWe were very disappointed with our experience at Via Matta. We had to return and exchange the octopus appetizer as well as cavatelli pasta with Jonah crab and sea urchin. The octopus was rubbery and served with lots of green beans----more like a green beans with some octopus rather than the other way around. As for the pasta, besides lack of presentation, we could hardly taste the crab/sea urchin. For the price, $26 pasta and $17 octopus appetizer, we were expecting a delight. The only great thing was our waiter who was exceptional as he encouraged us to exchange our dishes until we were satisfied.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is our favorite placeThis is our favorite place in Boston. We've been here four or five times now in the past few years and the food and service are always excellent.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing homemade Ricotta appetizer,Amazing homemade Ricotta appetizer, and delicious mezzaluna meal. I would go back in a second!3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was strange revisting aIt was strange revisting a place I had gone to many years ago, lured in by a special offer.
It was surprsingly pleased how excellent the food was prepared. Portions were large and flavorful.2/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
