Diner Reviews
  • "Superior food and service. Friendly and professional staff. Tasty menu was delightful- great food kept coming with well selected wines. Wife and I shared one premium selection and one regular flight of accompanying wine selections. We were surprised to find we could taste the difference in most pairings. Food was sophisticated in preparation and presentation but approachable for non- foodies and uniformly superior. Definitely a surge but every bit as good as we remember from our visit five years ago. Pistachio flan desert and spinach gnooci must haves."

  • "Superb does not properly define the wonderful dining experience at Vetri. Food, wine, staff all great. Vetri is an experience, albeit expensive, that no one should miss. Many thanks."

  • "Vetri vies for Best Restaurant in Philadelphia. The tasting menu is simply incredible."

  • "Going to Vetri is a foodie experience. We did the wine pairing with our meal which was terrific. Perfect amount of service too. Can't wait to go back. Loved everything about it"

  • "WOW! only gripe I have is that I we waited too long to make it in to Vetri, it outlived expectations which says it all"

  • "All the food was excellent, and the wine pairings where perfect. Almost too much food"

  • "Vetri was easily the best dinning experience we've ever had. Not only was the food amazing but the staff was also exceptional. They went out of their way to accomodate some special requests. It felt like we were the only customers they were caring for. The food was in a class by itself. The fresh pasta was incredible, especially the homemade gnocchi which seemed to melt in your mouth. Of course the quality was reflected in the price which means we will not be going back as soon as I'd like but Vetri made our anniversary that much more memorable."

  • "I ate here four years ago for the first time, and had the best dinner of my life. The quality has obviously been maintained since then, and the food and service were again truly exceptional. The wine pairing again hit the bullseye. The staff were friendly, paid the perfect amount of attention, and met our seemingly random and obtuse wine and food questions with incredibly detailed, knowledgeable answers. Despite the high price and quality, the friendliness of the staff was such that I still like I was eating among old friends and family, a combination that I rarely find at high end restaurants. The food is beyond description!"

  • "Vetri remains, in our view, the best Italian on the East Coast. Food was a perfect as ever. Ambiance is Vetri - small and intimate. The two seating policy strongly detracts from the experience unlike in the early days of the restaurant many years ago. Vetri essentially allows 2 1/2 hours for the table which is too quick for a $155 tasting menu paired with a $135 wine pairing. You want to savor and enjoy the meal but the courses keep coming on top of each other. You never feel rushed eating them, but as soon as you are done, another appears without pauses. Meals like this at our favorite places in NY and other cities take at least another hour..."

  • "Vetri is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion! The food is excellent and so is the service. The price is very high so it is not a place that one can visit often unless they are very wealthy. We had been given a gift from our children to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and they made it a very special occasion."

  • "We have wanted to eat at Vetri for quite some time, and we had very high expectations going to dinner. Our expectations were surpassed at every turn. The dining room is tiny and very intimate. The service was impeccable. Perfectly attentive, but in no way intrusive. And the food. Oh my, the food. One course was better than the next, and they were all amazing. Perfect pastas, unique ingredients and beautiful presentation. This was a dinner I will be thinking about for a long time to come!"

  • "This is the best meal I've ever had. It's a small room in a quiet part of Philadelphia. It brings the Philadelphia food seen to a new level. Pricey but worth it. Save up and go!"

  • "I must say from the time my wife and I walked in the front door I knew we were some place special. The courteous staff immediately took care of us by taking our coats and seating us at our table. The waitresses and waiters were on point with their service & knowledge of the food and the wine pairings that the sommelier put together were excellent. I personally am not a wine drinker therefore opting to ordering a few Italian beers which went perfect with the food. Overall I strongly recommend eating here and experience how special this restaurant is. I shall be back along with some friends next time. Best of luck diners, I hope this was helpful."

  • "Our waiter was very friendly and went out of his way to make us enjoy our meal, which was not difficult considering how great the food is. It is a bit too pricy for what it is (and I say that having been to most of the pricier restaurants in the city), but for a once every few years experience, or at least to try once, it is worth it. Fit for vegetarians, too!"

  • "This was such a disappointment. After hearing such great things, we were excited to finally get to go. I will not be returning. To start we had to wait 30 mins for our reserved table. 15 mins is acceptable, but certainly not 30 when you had a 9:00 pm late night reservation anyway. The food was not memorable at all. It was ok but not great. For a check that is half of my mortgage payment, I expect the best service, the best food, and the best pairings. The service was just ok, not the best. The beverage pairings were not perfect and I expect perfect pairings from a sommelier. I would say only two of the pairings were spot on. This place is not for true foodies. There are so many other gems out there. Don't bother."

  • "Again, we had the kind of dining experience at Vetri that some people never get to have in their whole lives and we're so thankful! Every course was amazing so I'm hard-pressed to pick a favorite, but some of the highlights were: the chestnut fettucini with wild boar ragu, the sweet onion crepe, the goose-stuffed endive, the almond tortellini, and the spinach gnocchi. Anyone who can should absolutely try Vetri. It is hand-down the best dining experience in Philadelphia!"

  • "Finally able to get in at Vetri for my birthday. My overall impression is that it is overpriced and over hyped. We arrived promptly for our 9 pm reservation and had to wait 15 minutes before we were seated. Its a tasting menu only restaurant which we normally like. In a nutshell, some dishes were good some were not so good. Misses were mainly with the seafood..over salted and a little "fishy" The goat was overcooked. We spent close to $500. I expected better. Will not go back"

  • "From the service to food to chef. This is the most amazing restaurant ive ever been too! Me and my guest bought two cookbooks each all signed by the chef and Mark Vetri. I highly recommend!!!!"

  • "While this meal is touted as the most expensive plate in Philly, it is well worth it. The customized menu, the way a difficult food allergy was handled, and the friendly professionalism of the staff was top notch. The almond tortellini is a favorite of mine - it's the only thing I've had twice. Wine pairings were excellent. I can't wait to return."

  • "My wife and I just had out first dinner at Vetri and it was truly a wonderful experience. Every aspect of the night was extremely well done, from the wait staff to the food to the wine. The food was simply amazing and while I went into the night skeptical of the tasting menu design, I was thoroughly converted to that. We were able to sample a wide range of food and, especially when we had different entrees to each other, share between ourselves. The wine pairing option, while a little expensive, was also a great option and really added to the experience. Overall, if you love food and love trying new foods, there is no better place to go than Vetri."

  • "After hearing such rave reviews, I anxiously awaited my experience. I was disappointed. Service was impeccable Everything was good, but nothing was "special" There wasn't one dish that I thought I would run back for that alone. At those prices, I think that there are far better options."

  • "Food was excellent and the wine pairings made the meal exceptional! Staff was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic about the food and wine. Among the best restaurants we have been to in the US!!"

  • "Was time for the annual return to Vetri. We've been wowed before. Had some of those same signature dishes - mainly the pastas. And for whatever reason this time the dishes looked as they did but the wow flavor factor was not all there. It is no doubt a very generous tasting menu with plenty to start with and inbetween gifts compliments of... and we were way more than full. The wine list is old world focussed but we were one new world gem for the night. The dining pace was great. But I'm not sure that "wow taste explosion" was all it could be, or at least was in past visits. Maybe next time it'll be there again - will be watching this space for others' experience."

  • "I'm glad my husband and I finally tried Vetri, but I don't think we'll ever go back. Everything was good (with the exception of the almond tortellini which reminded me of Christmas cookies and the gnocchi which was way too oily), but not out-of-this-world-$155-per-person good. For the price, I'd take Modo Mio over Vetri any day."

  • "Vetri was an amazing experience with amazing food!! The only thing I would have to say bad about it was that it was expensive!!! Every aspect other than that was perfect!! Really enjoyed it!! I would go more often if it was more affordable but will still make it out every once in a while."

  • "This was my second visit to Vetri and it blew me away once again. This is my favorite restaurant and cant wait to go back. The price is quite high but the food and experience are worth every penny."

  • "I have been wanting to try Vetri for years, but I was disappointed - especially given the $155 price tag. The service was excellent, particularly the wine service. The food was uneven. The scallop and the gnocchi dishes were incredible, but the other dishes - the wild boar pasta, the roast, some awful bone marrow dish my friend received, and the desserts were not good enough to warrant a $155 meal. And I felt like each dish was heavier than the next. I wish the menu was better balanced with a few more dishes that had a lighter touch. After the scallops, it was all meat, pasta and heavy sauces. Also, I wish we had more input on who in my party received which dish. I respect the vision of the chef, but wish we had a little more choice."

  • "My gf and I had such a great experience that it's hard to condense into 50 characters. Service was impeccable, from the moment you walk in the door. The maître d' was great and although many wonderful servers added to our experience our main server Sofia was a real gem. The food was amazing, and paced perfectly throughout our dinner. My only complaint would maybe be the annoying guy taking pictures with his flash on of every plate put in front of him, however all the elements that were in the control of the Vetri staff were perfectly thought out and executed. I'm from Chicago and consider myself a foodie who likes to try new restaurants every time I came back to Philly but I would definitely go to Vetri again."

  • "The meal was elegant and unique. The room was cozy and quiet. The staff was pleasant and informative. I would dine here regularly if I could afford it. I was especially impressed with the beer pairings; it was as though the beer sommelier knew me personally."

  • "Vetri is one of a kind. It is not just a place to dine, but an evening to let yourself go... an evening to indulge in gastronomical nirvana. The service is so expertly aware of its diners…being attentive without hovering, knowledgeable and helpful without pretense. You feel like you are in someone's loved kitchen. The tasting menu and paired wines were just outstanding. It was a magical evening in every way. The room was only 1/3 full and I am sure that is because Philadelphia diners cannot afford the cost or the time necessary to enjoy this superb experience, especially mid-week. This is not a meal to be rushed."

  • "You're at the whim of the chef when it's tasting menu only but here that's a good thing. And you can always order a few things that you can't live without, in our case the spinach gnocchi and the sweet onion crepes, two signature dishes that have been around from the start. But the single best thing on the menu has to be the pasta; the ricotta ravioli in a fennel and citrus sauce might be better even than the gnocchi. There's some hearty fare on the winter menu, notably goat that is braised down to a creamy texture with a very crisp crust. For dessert I would go with the pistachio custard and there's an interesting frozen grapefruit filled with cream. The timing between courses is just right. A great performance by the entire staff."
