Diner Reviews
  • "four of us went in for diner on Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. The atmosphere was bleak, the restaurant was not well populated, too many small kids, the music was not engaging or suitable for a late night crowd, We left and went down the street to a restaurant we know. This place has spent a lot of money BUT they need to hire professional hospitality industry experts. The hotel and everything is lacking. It could be such a great place, but its only mediocre. To bad as we really like the marina."

  • "Food- Surprisingly great! Bday girl received 2 giant sized pork chops instead of the normal 1. Salmon was on the bright, citrusy side. The sauce was a bit too acidic and pea tendrils were a bit tough, but salmon was cooked to perfection. Seafood pasta was a 10! Drinks- The Original Sin Cider was DELICIOUS!!! The Dark and Stormy was also a fave at the table. :) Service- Peter was awesome! Very attentive in the right amount. Not non-existent, but not hovering either. Small plate tuna was literally one of the best foods of my life and he highly recommended it! Can I get a vat of that stuff? Ambiance- Live music is my curse! It follows me everywhere! Always way too loud! Otherwise, beautiful restaurant with a great view!"

  • "I just ate dinner at Vessel restaurant at the Kona Kai Resort this past Saturday. There were 4 of us in our party. After sampling their ceviche, mussels, and lobster mac n cheese, we moved on to our entrees. Two ordered the pork chops(recommended), very juicy and flavorful. We also had the roast chicken, also good. I had the seafood pasta. It was tasty, but I had overloaded on bread, butter, and my glass of wine. So didn't finish it. We ended up finishing the meal with a chocolate lava cake and creme brulee. Very rich as satisfying. This restaurant has a great view of the marina and the hillside homes of Point Loma. A great special occasion place. Add it to your list."

  • "This was not a good pick for my group. We arrived when it opened, at 5:30, and ordered immediately, and it took slightly more than an hour to be served our food (a salad, a lobster slider, the fish of the day and the veggie lasagna, nothing overly complicated). The view of the harbor was great but it was way too long to wait for our food, and we had to track down several wait staff & finally the manager to check on our order as no one came to give any progress report or check on us. There was live music playing that was on the far end of the restaurant but still too loud for us so that it was hard to have a pleasant conversation during our long wait."

  • "I had a boat there for decades and always enjoyed the restaurant bar. An old friend and I go to restaurants that have been in business 50 years plus and after the redo we decided to give it a try. Maybe they are not done yet but you can't sit by a window in afternoon. There are no screens to shield from sun. The food was good and Melissa our server was just fine but honest to god it is like you are in a bowling alley the noise level was over the top. I can't complain enough. What is it with restaurants that spend millions but forget about acoustics. Then they fire up the band for late happy hour. Want to talk, forget about it."

  • "Food was good but not amazing, flavors did not pop like it was lacking more seasoning or something... Service was lacking. It looked like there was only one person taking orders and there was about 10 tables being occupied. Took a while for the server to stop by just to take our order, I had to go up to the hostess and ask if they had forgotten about us. Aside from that the restaurant had a romantic feel and nice ambiance, there is a bar just next to the restaurant and there was also live music. Not sure if I'll come back but it was still a good time."

  • "Very noisy, service is very slow and poor. You need to keep on repeating to bring what you need. Worse restaurant and service in town. Don't go to this place if u can"

  • "FAR more expansive than the online menu prices...could have been because of it being Christmas lunch and a special menu/occasion"

  • "I choosed this restaurant based on location and menu listed at opentable. This will be our early Christmas celebration since my daughter was leaving. I want it to be special. We were surprised that the food available is not what is stated in the opentable website. We're hoping for a Hawaiian variety of cusine but what we got were just sandwishes and wraps. The view was awesome but the food were soo ordinary, you would not expect it in this kind of place. No wonder the restaurant was empty. We invited relatives to celebrate with us, it's a good thing that they can't make it that early (11 am) or I would be embarassed for making them drive for an hour for this kind of food."

  • "We had a reservation for lunch, but there was no need as the restaurant was completely empty ... even of staff ! On arrival there was no hostess and we had to go into the bar and ask the bartender if they were even serving lunch. Then we waited some more and finally as we were starting to seat ourselves a waiter showed up. We then waited for menus, ordering, and food for a long time. The only reason it was not a complete disappointment was because we were doing a "ladies luncheon" and spent our time waiting by getting caught up. The waiter did not make any suggestions or provide any bread to nibble on. The food was just average. The ambience was nice, but that did not make up for poor service and average food. Won't be coming back."

  • "Kona Kai's recent interior makeover is just ok for this reviewer, as "trendy" is not my thing. The inside bar is noisy and the former comfortable seating is gone. BUT the outside is a wonderful improvement! Comfy seating/tables w/good service, also quiet and scenic view of the marina. Heaters available for when the weather cools. GREAT menu and food. Excellent cocktails and very personable waitress. The big problem? PARKING. Unless you are a hotel guest or member w/cards, you have to park on the street (difficult in summer months) or temporarily park at the entrance area, run into the lobby and wait to be helped (over 10 minutes for my experience) at the check-in desk . They give diners a temporary parking card to use the lot."

  • "The food and service was OUTSTANDING, however, totally overpriced. And when I called in to ask the price I was told $20 per person lower than we were actually charged. Then, they added a 22% service charge on top of that, which I think is crazy for a buffet. And there was a band playing off and on, but they were pretty cheesey, I kind of felt like I was at a late 1990's wedding. But the food was really, really good which made it a decent experience."
