A word from Vespucci Ristorante Italiano
Hello! We are Antonio and Rosaria, a young couple from Southern Italy. We come from two small beautiful sea towns named Scalea and San Nicola Arcella.
Antonio is a Master Chef and Rosaria has a hobby..... she loves to sing all traditional Italian songs. She sings only for private parties on request.
Antonio is very meticulous to choose the fresh stuff and he takes care for the presentation of the dishes. Rosaria likes to make decorations for different holidays and special events.
We are a gourmet restaurant and we will do our best not to disappoint your experience. Our goal is to share with you our flavors and the culture of Southern Italy.
We propose to you the authentic traditional dishes from the Calabria, region of Italy, in a classic, refined and intimate atmosphere where you will feel at home on all occasions, from a weeknight with your friends to weekend date night to a family gathering. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Vespucci Ristorante Italiano -
Best Restaurants in San Mateo
The owner was welcoming and very
congenial - however, service and food was uneven. Three people had Linguine alla Vongole and found it to be delicious, however two dishes had sufficient sauce and one was rather dry. One person had Eggplant Parmesan and felt the portion was too small and the side vegetables insufficient, especially for the price she paid. My caesar salad was very good, as was the Calamari Fritti. The service was mostly quite good, but sometimes took longer to get items that we asked for than we would have liked. The restaurant has charming decor and ambience - I know it is relatively new (open 16 months) but feel some of these things should have been ironed out by now."

Food is OK and our server
Francesco was also really good. However, we spent close to ten minutes waiting in the entrance before being greeted by someone which was quite frustrating. We didn't even get a simple apology afterwards. They appear to be overpriced for the level of service and food they offer. Downtown San Mateo has a ton of other restaurants. This place should be your last option amongst those."

Four of us enjoyed our dining
experience very much. My date and I had been here before, but the other couple had not. Our greeting was so cordial and we were seated promptly upon arrival near our reservation time. The bottle of wine, the friendly service, the careful attention by the husband and wife owners, and the food were all wonderful. Quite a great experience all around."

Went with a group of out of
towners from work. They, I to, really loved the food. I wanted to try everything. The pastas were very tasty and my risotto di mare was fantastic. A little disappointed that the tomatoes weren't as tasty as can be found at the farmer's market but everything else was so good that we were more than pleased"

We are going back soon. The food
here is truly outstanding, and the service is great. The owners are truly dedicated to providing great authentic Italian dining."

First visit and was very pleased.
I had the Chicken Calabrese which was exceptionally flavorful and tender. My wife had the gnocchi which was very good and authentic. The service was excellent and the owner came by to the tables to make sure all was good. I am looking forward to a return visit to sample some of the other dishes."
Dined on 8/1/2014
The food was excellent and very
well presented. Service was for the most part very attentive. The noise level was very high and 5 of us were crowded onto a table designed for a maximum of 4 requiring a lot of moving of plates and glasses around."

My family and I went to Vespucci's
looking for authentic Italian and were not disappointed. Going to to Vespucci's put us right back in Italy with the food and hospitality. We were greeted warmly and seated as we walked in. Our waiter explained the specials of the day and answered our questions when we weren't familiar with something. I had the Farfalle con salmone e piselli(basically bow tie pasta with salmon and peas in a pink sauce). Not only was the pasta amazing but the salmon was absolutely delicious as well. I ended the night with a limoncello sorbet that was so light and refreshing I still can't believe how good it was. If you want great Italian food Vespucci should definitely be on your list."

Hosted dinner for 8 partner
consultants, staff was awesome and Antonio took care of us big time! We had a blast and the food was excellent!"

We celebrated our wedding
anniversary and could not have picked a better place in San Mateo. We were greeted in a friendly manner upon arrival and placed at a prestigious window seat. Service was prompt, food arrived promptly and was fresh and at the right temperature. Water glasses were kept filled and the beer arrived cold and tasty. Dessert was excellent and a special treat for us. It should be noted this is a family run business with the owner involved including asking our opinion of the meal. This was our first meal and we plan to return in the future and expand our horizons. Dress is casual and it appeared some of the other patrons dined here previously and returned for the good food and excellent service."

Could not understand why the menu
can not be viewed on the web. Went for lunch and found they do not have a "lunch" menu, they just give you dinner and charge dinner prices. Very few people there for lunch, so I guess others have learned before me. Very expensive, especially for lunch, which is a dinner. Food quality is very good, but portions are small. The restaurant would gain alot of customers by having a reduced cost lunch menu like others, since we always try a restaurant for lunch before committing to a dinner. At least I learned to not go to any restaurants or gas stations that do not publish their prices!"
Dined on 6/13/2014
The food was well done and our
Italian friends thought it authentic. Service was impeccable. Parking in downtown San Mateo is a challenge."
Dined on 6/7/2014
Been there many, many times...food
is consistently good. A great spot for traditional and authentic Italian pasta...the pesto sauce is to die for."
Dined on 5/29/2014
We were a family of eight
celebrating a birthday at lunchtime. The restaurant was virtually empty, which was good and bad. We had excellent service by a very professional wait staff, but there was not much ambiance. The food was generally good, but the veal tasted a bit old, and my sister's eggplant dish was slightly burned. "

Love this restaurant.Food is
always great.Oweners and servers always friendly.i promise if you try it you will go back many times."

Went here for a business
lunch/birthday. Everyone enjoyed their food, the complimentary cake was a very nice touch! The food was fresh and flavorful. I had the minestrone, which was different, but amazingly wonderful. No pasta! Perfect for the paleo diet."
Dined on 5/13/2014
My wife asked me my preference for
my birthday dinner. I chose Italian and this is the restaurant she mentioned. Outstanding choice! Food was great and staff were all courteous and service was excellent. "

We had a very pleasant meal at
Vespucci except for some shenanigans with the wine list. Every wine we asked for from the list was no longer available and we were told the list was "in transition". We ended up with an Ok but not great bottle of wine the waiter offered from off list and I was a little annoyed about the whole process. The food was quite good though. Next time we may bring our own bottle of wine & pay the corkage fee."
Dined on 5/2/2014
We've driven and walked by this
restaurant for a long time and never even thought of going in. We couldn't even read the name of the place as the sign as such stylized script that it's hard to decipher. Finally decided to try it. It was wonderful! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Only drawback is the limited number of protein entrees to choose from. They probably need to expand that a bit. But we would definitely recommend trying this surprisingly good, neighborhood Italian trattoria."

This is a wonderful local
restaurant for great tasting authentic Italian food and is perfectly situated in downtown San Mateo. The owners and staff were wonderful, inviting, attentive and very friendly. The bottom line....We will go back!!!"
Dined on 3/29/2014
We dine at Vespucci fairly often
and our last visit was exceptional! A chicken special was amazing and I urged our most gracious host to keep it on the menu. The restaurant is attractive and the service is attentive. I wish the white wine list presented more selections and included Italian wines."
Dined on 3/19/2014
The food was good. The service
was prompt and it was a pleasant lunch."

of us. Will go there more often."

Italy is not far away with the
addition of this place. Staff was friendly and accomadating. Everything as nice, although the space itself is a bit cold and could use some accents to give it some warmth."
Dined on 3/9/2014
We joined friends at Vespucci on
Saturday. It was a lovely surprise! Our food was really terrific. The owner/chef was very kind about accommodating all food allergies. He was concerned about making sure the food still tasted good when he took out the "offending" ingredients -- he did, and the veal was excellent."
Dined on 3/8/2014
Everything on the menu is great
and invariably tastes better than you are expecting it to taste. Choose a daily special, when available. The chef takes pride in creating them and it shows."
Dined on 3/7/2014
Overall the experience was good.
My food was really delicious (rigatoni pomodoro) but my husband thought the eggplant parm was OK, but this is coming from an Italian who is very particular about this dish. Salad was solid. The service was ok. They seemed short staffed for the amount of people in the restaurant and we found ourselves waiting a lot. The ambience needs some improvement - it didn't feel as homey as other Italian restaurants."
Dined on 3/6/2014
This is a relatively new gem of a
restaurant that has only been in San Mateo for just a year It replaced a rather ordinary Vietnamese restaurant and the transformation is welcome and extraordinary. The food is prepared with genuine affection. Pasta is absolutely fresh. Specials are unique and interesting. Everything is unhurried and presented thoughtfully. The ambience is subdued elegance. Their service in welcoming and attentive."

We have dined at Vespucci's 5
times as part of guest parties of 2 to 8 persons for both a night out as well as for special occassions. Vespucci has continued to provide wonderful cuisine from appitezers to primo piatti to secundo piatti. Everything any of our guests has been served has been exquisitely prepared, cooked properly, and flavored as should be expected from a fine Italian restauraunt. The service has been outstanding and friendly. We rate this restauraunt as the best Italian restaurant on the peninsula."

Went for the first time for
valentine's dinner. the restaurant is tucked away among all the other restaurants on 3rd street. Food was good. I had the gnocchi, which was cooked perfectly--a little firm without over cooking into mush. The seafood sauce accompanying the pasta was excellently flavored. Hubby had chicken, which was well cooked, but just chicken. Panna cota was very good. The people who served us were very friendly, very attentive, and fit the ambience of the place very well. One of my favorite part of the dining was that all the tables were nicely spaced. Even though we were in a good sized dining room, it felt like it was just the two of us."

As an East Coast Italian, while I
love many of the "gourmet" Italian restaurants out there, sometimes you just want delicious basics with a bit of an interesting twist. Not sure how we missed this place for as long as we lived here but we've found it now and we loved it. Greeted by Antonio and his sister, as we chatted in Italian (well, my broken Italian), I knew this was going to be a great "real" Italian place. He even explained that one of the sauces on a dish we ordered was a family recipe and I think he said they simmer it for hours! Service is wonderful, food is solid, delicious and just the right portions. We are definitely coming back here again - I felt like I was with my family!"
Dined on 2/9/2014
Food was superb, everything very
fresh. The flavors were at the same time delicate and distinctive. The portions were generous but not overwhelming, and the presentation thoughtful but not pretentious. The service was impeccable, and the owner/chef stopped by every table a couple of times to check in with the customers. The only thing that could have improved the experience is some soft background music; the quiet made conversation easy, but at times it felt too quiet."
Dined on 2/7/2014
We requested a table by the
window, which is what we got. Ordered Caesar salad, and the special cabbage salad, which was excellent. Main course was pesto gnocchi and cioppino, both were outstanding. The seafood was so fresh. Desert of lemon sorbeto, served in a champaign glass, and the best tiramisu I've ever tried. Everything is fresh and made to order. Be prepared to have a nice conversation with your companions while you wait for food to be prepared. Perfection takes time"

I went here for a Friday night
dinner with my girlfriend. The food was fairly mediocre, however the service is great. We had an awesome waiter that was very friendly and attentive. As nice as the waiter was, I don't think I'll be returning here. They need to do a better job with their food."
Dined on 1/17/2014
Food was excellent; it was my
birthday and they sung to me in Italian. Noise level high"
Dined on 1/4/2014
Regional Italian homemade pastas
and gnocchi, with friendly, hospitable owner who explained the background of his favs, some of which you won't find anywhere else. Gnocchi di mare and linguine al vongole were especially good, as was the tomato/anchovie dipping sauce for the bread. Attentives staff and decor made us feel like we were dining inside an Italian palace."
