  • "This was our first visit but it won't be the last. The menu is small but varied. There were 4 of us and I thought the Ahi Tuna was great, my friend really liked the salmon and both guys had the short ribs and said they were OK but were disappointed that they were boneless. For starters, the duck and goat cheese flatbread was outstanding, the crispy pork belly was very good but not crisp enough and the crab cake was good. We shared the chocolate soufflé with home made ice cream for dessert and it was wonderful. Our server was great and the hostess was very accommodating. Tables are small and close and the noise level was high but not disturbing. Looking forward to a return trip to try some other dishes."

  • "I understand the bar room noise but we were try to have a very nice dinner and there was one table of 6 very, very loud 30 isn couples that were just drinking and did not want to stand in the bar so they got a table in the dining room.. We had to listen to them for 1 hour of our 1 1/2 hour dining. I don't think this should have been allowed. Very glad when they finally finished doing shots, not eating and the left.."

  • "The food at Verve is OUTSTANDING and the service excellent. Meals are creative, reasonably priced considering the ingredients and delicious. The servers are well trained and attentive. The only issue is that it's a bit loud. The bar is very active (not rowdy), just a fun busy place, but the restaurant is on the small side so it gets noisy on a Friday or Saturday night. It can be hard to have a conversation with the people at your table. I don't know how you solve that problem and it isn't bad enough to keep us from coming back!!!"

  • "On my first visit with two other ladies - the mushroom soup, gnocchi and crab cakes were outstanding. Because my mushroom soup & gnocchi were so good on my first visit., I decided to order them again. The gnocchi was definitely not as good - they almost tasted like left over. My guest had the tuna with potato pancakes - awesome! I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The ambiance was perfect, service excellent and a great wine list."

I might add that I wasn't sure what to expect when I first walked in and saw what appeared to be a local bar (they can perhaps dress that up a bit) but when you walk into the dining room the vibe changes completely."

  • "My husband and I decided to try something new for our anniversary. We love Somerville and thought we would try a new place. The Verve was the best pick we have ever made. The food and drinks were beyond our expectations. My husband has already decided that we are going again for valentines day and my birthday! He told a friend yesterday that the food was so good that he feels like he could order anything ( other than his lobster Mac and cheese) next time and he is confident that it would be amazing. That is a huge compliment coming from him. Everyone should give the verve a try if you have some free time and a little money to spend!"

  • "For people who like good food and pleasant service. Surprised that Christmas Eve wasn't the usual sub-standard that restaurants often give on holidays. Good for other than "romantic" as we had family and friends. Excellent martini, and the sage and butternut gnocchi were especially tasty. Steak was unexpectedly excellent quality. I haven't had a bad meal yet, but the crab cakes aren't especially good. That's the only thing I would skip. The risotto is definitely al dente, which is also not my favorite. Everyone always loves the duck."

Seating a bit tight so if you have a loud larger group next to you hearing is impossible. Waiter and staff are amazing. They all work together and it works! Can't wait to go back."

  • "There on a Wed night, business+related dinner with my wife along, three other gentlemen besides me. Nice to be in a place where no one was dressed like a schlub in jeans or cargo shorts. Bar was great, dining room conducive to general business conversation. Excellent food and attentive service. My only complaint was that for a restaurant that implies it's a great steak place, there was only one cut (NY Strip) on the menu."

  • "A friend and I dined here on Saturday night. we had won a gift certificate at a charity event. Everything was just ok. Waiter was ok but not great. He didn't speak loud enough and we had to keep asking him to repeat himself. She had poached lobster and I had pan seared duck and they were ok. Not bad, not great just ok. The crabcake appetizer was actually very good as were the espresso martini's. There was really nothing wrong with the restaurant but it was also not special in anyway. Before the gift certificate our bill was $174.00 which including 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, 2 cocktails, 1 glass wine and 2 espresso martini's. It wasn't worth $174 at all. Wouldn't return, the place just doesn't give you a reason to want to go back."

  • "Expecting a steakhouse, we were surprised that the menu offered only one steak. Seems that Verve changed it's menu to be more French, so we went with it and enjoyed a great meal. The service was excellent and everything was prepared to perfection. This was a birthday celebration (4 of us) so we sat at a table, but next time the two of us will eat at the bar for a more casual meal. The bar menu has variety and everything on it looks great."

  • "Verve is the type of French restaurant that offers a "Chocolate Soufflé" which is actually a flourless chocolate cake round that is warmed before serving. The dining room has a dynamic, warm environment and is pleasantly decorated. The service is by and large, good. There are three main negatives. First , the food quality varies from very good to poor. Second, the menu choices are uninspired with an undue emphasis on cheap ingredients. Third, tables of 6 and more are quite common, making it louder than it needs to be. The continued popularity of Verve can only be explained by a desire not to drive out of county to enjoy French cuisine."

  • "We had a gift certificate that had been donated by the restaurant. The certificate said "Dinner for Two" and did not include tax, gratuity or alcohol. We weren't sure what that covered, but we went to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food was delicious and the service terrific. We each had soup, appetizer, entree and dessert. To our surprise, the manager told us all we owed was the tax and gratuity! The restaurant has an extensive wine list. We are not drinkers, so for us this is not a draw. My only negative is that the menu is rather limited. I would have like some more entree selections. Still a great place, especially for a special occasion. We will definitely return. Kudos to Verve for their generous donation."

  • "We had dinner at Verve during our visit to Somerville. We had lived in the area for many years but had moved away 2 years ago and wanted to revisit one of our favorite restaurants during a visit. bottom line: Verve is still good, but no longer the gem it on e was. The menu has changed, no longer are the steak options available, the duck breast was just so so, and the lobster bisque was a great disappointment - more broth than bisque, with nary a sliver of lobster meat to be found floating in it. The drinks arrived in small glasses, the red wine was luke warm....and so on. Still, because we were with a dear friend we enjoyed ourselves, but unfortunately the food was secondary."

  • "We have been coming to Verve once or twice a year, for special occasions, for about 10 years, and it is consistently fantastic! The dinner menu is not vast, however we always find something that is prepared perfectly to eat for our main course. The portions are good - not too much, not too little. Service is always great - from the minute you sit down and are given ice water, and fresh bread with dipping oil. This time we noticed an even better cocktail menu than we can recall, so we experimented our way around that menu in lieu of their great wine list. Cocktails were great! We normally split a dessert, and there were interesting and fresh options - we had the pear tart which was great. Can't say enough about this place-we love it!"

  • "My husband and I very much enjoyed our recent dinner at Verve. The staff was gracious and not at all pretentious, the food was amazing and the homemade tonic they use in their Gin and Tonics was delish ! They have a rooftop garden so the vegetables are amazing and fresh, my roasted beet and goat cheese salad was just wonderful and my husband couldn't say enough ( or share) his French onion soup. He also ordered the roast chicken entree that with its perfectly crisp skin and moist meat made him a very happy fellow. I ordered the butter poached lobster with risotto , in one word AMAZING! Needless to say we will be back."

  • "Had an outside table on a perfect evening. Two of our group started with the poached pear salad, which is large enough to split and my favorite. The other chosen was a summer gazpacho which was green but delicious. Dinners were 2 of the butter poached lobster, one if the monk fish, the tuna, a of course a steak! We were all in heaven."
