I came here for MTL à table hoping to have an excuse to come back but I was left wanting more. The different tastes combined with the Gravlax were interesting, some vanilla-infused melon, some fig jam, some mint jelly, etc. but the lamb and the desserts were just okay. I also tried my friend's deconstructed lobster lasagna and minestrone soup but, again, although decent, it didn't quite meet my foodie standards for that price. The pluses: the ambiance was lovely, calm, the service was great, and the wine list is impressive. I was happy to try Verses, but as it was already a bit pricey with the 39$ prix fixe, tip, tax, and wine, and the food was good but not great, I doubt I will come back.

Our table ended up ordering the Montreal a'table tasting menu. The first course was a salmon gravlax, but tasted like candy. It had bitter licorice flavors. The second course was a lobster lasagna. It had a bitter puree and not much lobster on the plate. I am from Maine, and the way to eat lobster is to leave the flavor alone. I was unable to taste much lobster in this dish. The dessert course was a chocolate mousse with basil cream in the center atop a cookie. It was divine. The service was impeccable, but overall the meal fell short due to weird flavor combos that do not work. Overall, I would not come back again, but it is nice to experience once. If you are really into odd French fusion then this place may be for you.

Minestrone soups arrived cold, gravlax, dry and no taste, lobster lasagna, cold, served with clotted bisque, ran out of desserts offered with special menu. A restaurant knows how many reservations it has and should not run out of items. Service was excellent, which does not make up for the cold food being served.

The food and service at Verses is excellent and, at least when we were there, we could hear each other talk! I'm tired of restaurants that play music so loud that you cannot hear the person at the table with you. This restaurant is elegantly quiet, but also has a vibrant bar area. Each of the dishes we ate was so well presented and prepared. We look forward to our next visit!

We were staying at the Magellin and it was the last night of our trip (10 day cruise plus a couple of days in Montreal so we decided it would be nice to not have to go out. What a treat, Luc our waiter could not have been any nicer. My wife had the Octopus app and Duck for her main, I had the scallops for my app and squab(?) for my main, the food was outstanding. A minor hiccup during the service drew unneeded apologies and dessert on the house. Wife is gluten intolerant and they didn't miss a beat, I think her gluten free dinner rolls may have been better than mine. Great way to end our trip.

While everything from the amuse bouche to the dessert was spectacular, I have talked about the chocolate mousse on a crunchy cookie with the basil creme filling for over two weeks. I remember a smoked squash soufflé, perfect entrées and tiny bits of artichoke heart in the vegetable medley too but the desserts were over-the-top. We will return and dine here next spring when we are in town for the Formula One race.

We were given a table by the window which was lovely. Food was excellent and they didn't have any problems accommodating a vegan request. I mentioned that we wanted to go next door to Mechant Boeuf for the bar scene and the maître d immediately found us a table, escorted us there and returned to ensure we were taken care of. Highly recommend

A charming restaurant with inventive, delicious food and outstanding service. As an example of the service, the waiter brought my husband and me an extra dish (a fabulous little treat) to make up for the fact that another waiter had accidentally brought me the wrong appetizer -- a quickly corrected mistake that was no big deal to us. Then, when the waiter saw that we'd struck up a conversation with the couple next to us, he brought them both the same thing, for no reason at all but to enhance their dining experience. The food was inventive and beautifully presented. We'd go back there readily.

The staff was very accommodating even after we showed up early for our reservation. They were fairly attentive and nice, though at times a bit awkward as the ambiance was stuffy. The food is what really lacked in my opinion. We went for my wife's birthday and the free desert they gave was a nice touch. The entrees however did not live up to our expectations for a higher end restaurant. Much better finds in the Little Italy and Mile-Ex neighborhoods.

This is a lovely restaurant in the Hotel Nelligan and can be as romantic as desired or a great spot for people watching as it fronts on a vibrant Old Montreal street. The food is creative and delightful with some new concepts being applied to traditional foods of the region. Many items are prepared using only locally acquired ingredients. Service is always first rate.

They say they serve quality and we would have liked to taste it in more than four bites (no joke!) We have dined at Verses 5 times during visits to Montreal. We were very disappointed with our recent experience. We chose the tasting menu with matching wines. A few of the items were tasty, the best being the Octopus and also a broth like refresher. Everything else was badly executed and not worth the price. Scallops were pedestrian and fowl was dry. The wine pairings were tasty, but each was less than a 3 ounce pour, in one case only about 1 ounce. Table service was slow and we had 20 minute periods with no wine, no plates and no attention. At the end of the meal the staff were apologetic and noted that the tasting menu was new and they had bugs to work out. But they still charged us the full $155 per person! Sadly we will not return.

Had the Degustation menu with wine pairing. Virtually every course had something wrong with it. Most were lacking in taste or did not taste good at all and the one course that had a nice flavour was overcooked so that the meat was dry and the sauce stickly, almost rubbery. All the attentive service in the world can't make up for poor food.

Verses is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal, and my experience of it this time was, as usual, very positive. The service was attentive but not fawning, the ambience is very comfortable, the cuisine is creative and successful. The only thing that was mildly disappointing was the cheese platter: given the amazing cheeses available in Quebec, I thought the assortment was a bit unadventurous.

I do not have much experience with high end restaurants, but Verses was great. The food was delicious, and the staff were completely friendly. The menu probably has something for everyone (limited options for vegetarians/vegans, it seems--although most of it is probably gluten-free for you Celiacs out there). The wine offerings seemed pretty legit, with recommended pairings for each dish (all three courses). However I did not order wine so I cannot comment further on this. I ordered the bison tataki for appetizer, the partridge for main course, and the herb cake for dessert. My date ordered the asparagus and ham appetizer, lamb for main course, and macorons for dessert. Everything was delicious--to me the main course was the strongest.
