Diner Reviews
  • "The steak and fries are to die for. Everything we tried so was full of flavour. And our waiter Jeremy is very attentive and detail oriented. Love this place!"

  • "Lovely little place, with a great menu, and a stellar wait staff."

  • "Vero is one of our favorite restaurants in Calgary. The service is always superb, we have never had an issue. The food is superb and the chef just took a sabbatical in spain, with super results. There is a wide variety, portions are good and the combinations great. We had the Brussel sprouts carmelized, great and an arugula salad with artichoke fritters, super. Main course was a lamb dish, not cheap at 39 but very good size and wonderful tasting. Dessert was a creme Brulee, one of the best we had. Wine choices are always interesting. Vero is not cheap but for calgary fair and the overall experience wonderful."

  • "I have walked past this unassuming restaurant many times and decided to give it a try based on a friend’s recommendation. It surpassed the recommendation! The food selection + preparation was perfect, as was the service. Ambience is always important to me so this too was a sweet surprise."

  • "Took my family here to celebrate my mom's birthday. It turned out to be Steak&Frites Wednesday, which ended up being a very nice surprise. I liked that they had a fish or veggie dish for those who wanted to opt out of the steak. Great price, and the food was cooked to perfection! It's a small space, but in the cosy way where you don't feel like you're too close to the neighbouring tables. The staff were friendly, but still professional, and explained each dish that came out with confidence. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The food was awesome, service excellent and we were finished and out at designated time for our evening performance."

  • "Chef Jenny is a master of flavours!!! Cannot say enough about her skill and expertise in the kitchen. Everything always cooked perfectly and beautifully presented! My choice for top restaurant in Calgary!"

  • "We have been twice. The first was incredible. Flavours of food - outstanding from beginning to end. The servers were remarkable. We had steak the next time (Wed. Special) and although the flavor was fabulous it wasn't as tender as it should have been but the fries were unbelievable! Salad - fresh & flavorful and dessert was perfect! I 'd go there again and again! Our favorite place to dine. P.S the only place ever that takes the time to heat the milk (I like a lot of milk) for my coffee!!"

  • "We were at Vero"s on a Sunday evening for the "Family Dinner" special. The concept is unique and fun. As always, the food was superb. Great ambiance and a wonderful experience."

  • "have been a few times for events, this was the first on our own. food was excellent, wine was good (albeit very expensive...$8 bottle of wine for $48 on the menu...). quite loud but expected in a small place like vero. staff were pleasant, service was good."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "Make reservations in advance. This cozy spot is worth the planning. The menu is creative and seasonal. Quality and portions were excellent."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Very energetic atmosphere, from appetizers to dessert, the food was excellent, presentation and taste. Nice wine list, would highly recommend."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "Food flavours are expertly put together in innovative ways. When busy, the restaurant is too loud for easy conversation. Prices are a little high for anything other than a special occasion or a deep wallet. Vegetarians wouldn't find a lot of options on the menu."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "I've told so many of my friends about this place that I feel like I've run out of things to say. But the chef does seafood like no one else and my dining partners are always happy with their meat entrees as well. The sweet potato gnocchi is really a standout dish."

  • "We have overlooked Vero several times when selecting a restaurant in Kensington and finally decided to give it a try. We were a group of 3 and impressed with the appetizers, our dinner, dessert, as well as an amuse-bouche and some hot-out-of-the-oven corn bread served by the chef. It is a shame Vero is so overlooked in the Calgary food scene, publications like Avenue and City Palate ignore it but it deserves its place amidst Calgary's best."

  • "Nice little restaurant and cosy. I liked the lamb chops that I ordered, very tender. Tried a piece of my husband's steak but it was too chewy. Nice to get the free dessert, as we found out that if we liked the place in Facebook, we could get a dessert free which my son did right there. I was telling our nephew about your place, and he is going to try it this week."

  • "Even without drinks or dessert, 3 of us raked up a $150 bill for dinner. Definitely a special occasion only type of place for me. Docking a point for service because our server forgot about the leftover we were taking. Favourite dish: sweet potato gnocchi with wild boar bacon"

  • "This was a great place for brunch! I appreciated that we could make reservations since there were seven of us. The food was fabulous and we will be back."

  • "I'm not sure why it took my hubby and I so long to try Vero, but we ended up going for the first time on the last night of Big Taste YYC. I started my meal with the ahi tuna nicoise salad, then the paccheri, and finished off the night with mango cheescake. This was the best meal I've had in a long time!! EVERTHING was scrumptious!! If you haven't tried this place yet - what are you waiting for!?!?"
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "We tried the Big taste menu and the portion was very small--not sure if this was a representation of their regular portions. I will definitely come back and try their regular menu. Calamari was OK, would not order again."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The food was very good, reasonably priced, and the staff friendly. I work downtown, so it is a little out of the way for lunch, but I will go again when I am in the neighborhood."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Their food was delicious and they make it easy for diners that are gluten free or vegetarian by labelling items right on the menu. Service was great as we'll. Only downside is that the restaurant is very small, you can almost reach out and touch the table beside you. So not a very intimate setting but still highly recommended!"

  • "Loved the food and especially our server. He made the evening even more fun."

  • "Due to the Big Taste food festival it was very busy and we had to sit there for 15 min to wait for service. The food was good, but not outstanding. In conclusion I would recommend this restaurant if you don't know what to cook and are going to a restaurant instead but not to have a unique "foodie" experience."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Great food, atmosphere, and waiter. The place is really small though and the tables are really close together. Had reservations but still had to wait in the cramped doorway area. Besides that it was an overall good dining experience."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "The food we had was fantastic, satiating and beautifully presented. Will most definitely be back again."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "The lamb chop and steak were perfectly cooked and the meat was well reasoned. Service was friendly and caring. Wine list was adequate. We had an excellent dining experience after all."

  • "The food and service was great at Vero Bistro Moderne, I would have definitely returned and recommended this restaurant, however the manager provided such a poor level of service that I will not be returning."

  • "Wonderful brunch, it was very busy when we went in so I was glad to have an Open Table booking. I had the sweet potato gnocchi, which was so tasty. I'm actually wishing I could have some now just thinking about it. The gnocchi was accompanied by roasted walnuts, bacon, Gorgonzola cheese and two sunny side up eggs. My hubby had the spicy salami eggs benny and not a crumb was left on his plate. We will be back!"

  • "Calgary has in the pasat few years seen the emergence of a number of great restaurants. Vero Bistro is one of these. The food is always interesting and the service is peasant and non intrusive. Chef Jenny has created a great spot with this restaurant."

  • "Came here for the Big Taste lunch but it turns out on Sunday they serve their regular brunch, so we tried this out for the first time. We were seated right away but waited a long time for the server to come around and take our order, waited a LONG time to have our plates cleared and an even longer time to get our bill. The server, while very pleasant, seemed a bit frazzled and looked to be managing all the tables on her own. She did not write our order down and had to come back and check a few minutes later what it was we wanted, and even then I received an americano instead of a latte. Not a bit deal and so I didn't want to say anything. The food came out surprisingly fast and, as always, did not disappoint. Truly delicious! Overall great."

  • "My friends and I decided to try the the Big Taste Menu. The menu was well thought out with an excellent selection of dishes. We really enjoyed everything we ate., which included Borrata salad, a pasta dish and steak with frites as well as the mango cheesecake. Restaurant although small was very busy.server was very knowledgable and helpful. We will definitely return"

  • "We tried Vero Bistro during the special dining week. I had the fixed menu and my wife ordered from the regular menu. Selections were excellent. Salad portions were just right, greens were very fresh, combinations were thoughtful and provocative (e.g., nicoise salad w/ ahi tuna pieces). Cooking was delicious, with very nice interpretations of classic paella dish. Would definitely return again."

  • "Best porkchop ever consumed ... Perfectly prepared for temp & texture. Mike, the server, perfecto!"

  • "We went for Steak & Frites special menu. The starter soup was wonderful. The main course beef was beautifully prepared. And the finishing cheesecake was surprisingly light - a perfect finish. All this for a reasonable price. The service was thoroughly professional and pleasant. We'll be back."

  • "We were at Vero for Steak and Frites night--Wednesday and it was superb--the food and the friendly but not overwhelming service. We will be back to try brunch and the Tuesday Chef's Choice. Also we had a HOT drink-- essential on such a cold night. Glad it was available."

  • "Would could tell that this restaurant was a neighbourhood favourite. Many long time diners, from what we could tell. We had the Iberico de bellota to start. There was some confusion over what the dish came with at some slightly older menus were given to us. But the restaurant whipped up the extras that were on the old menu for us. Good thing they did since the ham on its own would have been a bit underwhelming. My wife loved it, I did not. No fault to the preparation. We shared the crispy vegetable rolls as well which were excellent. We shared the steak frites entree and the frites were amazing. You got a very good size steak which was mostly excellent with a fair amount of gristle. Well done though."
