Diner Reviews
  • "We are strong supporters of Marriott properties in general and usually have excellent food experiences. However, after looking forward to trying Vernon's, we were extremely disappointed. The "catch of the day," snapper, in entree #1, was NOT fresh, and in fact smelled & tasted fishy. The lamb chops in entree #2 were very fatty. We tried the lobster strudel for an appetizer, which was tasteless. We did like the calamari as a second appetizer, however. Also, they have a 'Soup Bar' which was interesting and liked 2 of 4 soups. Service was good. This is an expensive restaurant, and the food presentation was lovely, however, we expected higher quality. We live close by now, and are Platinum Marriott members, but we do not plan to return here."

  • "Great views of the pond and waterfalls on the Sawgrass Marriott property. All entrees include the soup bar. We tasted 4 varieties, all delicious. Entree prices were in the high $20s to $40s, a bit high we thought . The shrimp appetizer included 3 large shrimp; we thought the price of $16 was excessive. Our short ribs and grouper entrees were $29 and $35, respectively. Bottom line -- excellent service in a pleasant setting but the food seemed to us to be a bit overpriced. The wine list mark up, however was reasonable."

  • "Enjoyed the restaurant overall. The location in proximity to the hotel is it's key obviously. The staff was excellent in making it feel like a nice restaurant, but the food was mediocre."

  • "This is the third time we have dined at Vernon's and we have not had a bad experience anytime we have attended the evening dinning."

  • "Everything was delightful as our reservation and seating was early on a Saturday before TPC. The restaurant was empty except for a few tables. The chowder bar was enjoyable but filling. The bill reflects Vernon's being in a hotel rather than the upscale nature. It was more expensive than I would have thought."

  • "Really recommend this restaurant to everyone. Not a typical hotel restaurant but a restaurant with flair. Excellent food and good ambiance. We good service level and prefect wine list for everyone's level. The free chowders included with the entrees are a must."

  • "limited menu, couldn't find a bottle of wine that I would over pay for, soups were ok, meal was good..... Not impressed... Might go back to sit in the bar area......."

  • "We recieved a promo to check out Vernons so gave it a try. Glad we did, rediscovered a near by restaurant that we'd kind of forgotten about. The food was very good and there is a nice happy hour at the bar with half price wine and apps."

  • "Our party of 8 over taxed our server. Perhaps he had too many tables. However the restaurant was empty at the beginning of our meal."

  • "The restaurant has been beautifully remodeled (long overdue) and the food was very good (not outstanding). They offer a complementary soup bar to begin the meal. Prices are relatively high but you are in a hotel. Martina's are $12 and $13."

  • "Glad we had coupon. Chowder bar was good... enjoyed the appetizers. Entrees... ribeye and pan seared grouper were good... not great. Prices were a little high for the quality. Wine list inconsistent. Some great prices on good wines and some prices, way out of line with other local restaurants. Again, not bad, but so many other better places to eat in Ponte Vedra Beach. Service was good."

  • "We dined at m Vernon's with a party of 6. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service. We all had the Vernon's salad which was nice. But we all had different entrées. From fish to steak with no complaints or regrets. Thanks Vernon's"

  • "Great new addition to the local dining scene! Service was one of the best we have had in the area and that's saying a lot considering the local restaurants. Prices were reasonable with a great wine list and something for everyone. Definately will be back with food, service and management that this place has!"

  • "We're locals and were reluctant to try a hotel / resort restaurant. It was first class, stacks up well against any restaurant in the area. Hope it does well. Great spot especially for golfers Chowder bar was great - challenge is not to overdo it! A bit pricey, but very good value."

  • "What a pleasant surprise! The restaurant has a subtle 1920's appeal while remaining modern and attractive. The Filet's are excellent and the enhancements for the steak and fish are impressive. Excellent wine list with something for everyone. Service was attentive and professional yet friendly and personable. Definitely coming back and highly recommend!"

  • "I ordered the salmon appetizer served cold which in two of the three thin slices had bones in it as well as a scale. My entree was grouper oscar which was, when delivered to the table, warm but not hot. The grilled vegetables served with it were very good, but again, warm."

  • "The kitchen was very busy serving the restaurant guests and Gator Bowl fans and players. The food seemed like it had been prepared in advance and left warming--dry fish. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. I would go back in the future."

  • "I called ahead and spoke with the GM William Mahon, and he accomodated a special request that I made of him for my wife's birthday dinner. We found the venue elegant & well maintained. Our waiter Mabrouck remembered us from some of our outings at the Augustine Grille, and took good care of us throughout the meal. Executive Cheff Brett Smith delivered Lobster Strudel to my wife personally, which was not on their New Year's Eve menu, explaining that this recipe was his creation from a time he worked in Arizona. If you like lobster at all, this is a must have -- you will not regret it!"

  • "Good: love the redesign & view.Chowder bar delicious.Wonderful concept.. Grilled Salmon & Grouper were nicely done & tasty. Bad: Scallop dish way too salty, spinach was minimal considering it was the veg that came w the dish. Ugly: for a Marriott Resort/Spa property to run out of Stoli AND Belvedere vodka on a Saturday night is inexcusable and the bar was empty! Also inexcusable was in making our reservation I wrote a message that it was my husbands birthday. This was absolutely ignored. We were very disappointed as we were looking for a new local restaurant in this area. The place is very impressive and Marriott did a fabulous job at the "new look". Hope they get their act together with promotions. Place lacked energy."

  • "Our family had a terrific dinner at Vernon's recently. The porcupine crabcake and lobster strudel appetizers were tremendous. We lived in Annapolis for many years and Vernon's crabcake rivaled the best we would have found in Maryland. We can't wait to come back!"

  • "This was our first time at this new restaurant within the Sawgrass Marriott. They are having outstanding happy hour 5 -6 with 1/2 priced wine, beer & superb appetizers: lobster strudel & raw oysters. We then had an early dinner in beautifully decorated dining room. Steak & fish were very good + had chowder bar offerings that were quite good. Service was outstanding in bar & restaurant."

  • "We have been dining at Augustine Grill for the past 17 years. The food and the chef have always been great. This is the first time for us in Vernon's. The menu was impressive. We, unfortunately, would not rate the food as highly as the preparations in Augustine Grill. Will come back, though, in order to give it another try."

  • "The host was very welcoming. The waiter, though attentive, tried to push courses we did not want & I find that offensive. They offer complimentary soup. The crab chowder was good. The fillet mignon was cooked to death, but graciously reckoned. The rib eye, though tasty, was nowhere near the menu size. Entrees came w nice free sides. The wineidt had reasonable reds."

  • "We liked the previous restaurant (Augustine's) in the Marriott and thought food and service were excellent. Our first visit to Vernon's was just ok, but nothing special for the price of the evening. Also missed the cheese plate which was a previous favorite. Nice wine selection and attentive service from waiter and manager. Didn't feel it had much ambiance for a date night, so maybe better for a family dinner or brunch on the weekend."

  • "Picked this newly reconceptualized hotel restaurant for location not necessarily the menu and was pleasantly surprised. A terrific venue, with a "cool" vibe, The food lived up to the Decor. The complimentary chowder bar was unusual and delicious. The breadsticks are yummy and well seasoned. Service was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. All in all, a lovely evening for group of seven."

  • "This is a great new restaurant in Ponte Vedra Beach. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights and came back each night to try something new and we're never disappointed. The servers were great! They knew the menu and how the dishes were prepared. We loved the variety of fresh fish and different chowders. (Lobster and crawfish was my favorite) my husband and I also loved that the staff honestly seemed to care. You don't find that too much these days. The manager was always talking with the guests and interested in feedback and nothing seemed rushed. Overall great dining experience. Definitely will be back!"

  • "This is an awesome new restaurant in the Ponte Vedra area. I was very excited to try this out, and my expectations were far exceeded. They offer complimentary valet service. When we got into the resort, the restaurant caught my eye right away. It is furnished and decorated very beautifully. As the hostess walked me and my dinner guest to our table, she gave us a brief tour of the restaurant including some of the artwork, and Vernon's "private table." The food was delicious and elaborately presented. They offer a complimentary chowder bar with every entree. I had the beef short ribs, and they were so tender. We also ordered a bottle of wine from their LONG list (they even have 30 bottles for under $30). A true dining "experience!""

  • "Hard opening 4 days ago;however, restaurant and staff have been here for some years. The menu is ambitious and the presentation is excellent. It is a hotel lobby restaurant that has been redone very well, the views during daylight would be outstanding.the occupancy this evening was about 25%,including, a large table of Marriott staff. Our server, who worked in their downstairs pub for some time, was abominable, lazy, and in some netherworld. When servers disappear for some time,I actually got my own drink from the bar,are reported to the manager, then disappear again for even longer, when not really busy, there is a serious problem with management as well.Another long term server, who knew us ,came to the rescue. ."

  • "The only negatives were Vernon's lacks the intimacy of the Augustine Grill and the valet parking needs to staff better. Now the positives • The best staff in the beaches by far. • More expansive menu • Food quality is top shelf - The swordfish was exceptional and the NY Strip was cooked perfectly • Not the largest wine list in the Jacksonville area, but very approachable with some good values, and only a few on the high side. • Seating is very comfortable and you never feel crowded • Very upscale atmosphere • The soup and chowder bar is unique, with a great selection of choices"

  • "Dining room is beautiful and feels exactly like you have stepped into a fancy magazine. Food took longer than expected to arrive. Had the parmesan crusted grouper which was slightly over cooked. The dish had great flavor due to the vegetables and sauce but the fish was a bit bland. Doubt we will be back as there are several other restaurants in the area we enjoy more."
