The waitstaff was awesome. They were so cool. They were professional but so helpful and friendly. I felt very at home. It was swanky and dark and there was jazz playing. I would go back for dinner for another special occasion but I'd go back for tapas at the bar anytime. I loved that the menu was really just a base guidline and the waiter was really knowledgable about all the added, extra things that were not on the menu. The staff at Vernon's never rush you. You are allowed to linger and enjoy your evening. The staff is attentive to your every need and the food is fantastic. The service, atmosphere and food were great!!! It is actually like an old-time speakeasy. They call to confirm your reservation or e=mail you with a password to get in! We were seated in the Diamond Lounge so the live music only added to the occasion. The waiter was attentive and on top of everything! It is pricey, but worth it. The food was delicious and well prepared. I realize that farm raised elk is mild in flavor, but that was not a problem. Rather it was the quality of the cut. Frankly, the rack was tough, and it contained a fair amount of tendon/gristle. Having had both wild/hunted elk as well as other farmed elk, this was not one of the better elk meats I have had, and I have had roasts, steaks, filets, and other cuts so it is not that I am inexperienced in eating elk meat. Perhaps Vernon's would do better to offer another cut of elk rather than the rack. The dry fig sauce that was offered with it was also in my opinion not the best sauce to accompany it. This restaurant is on the pricier side which seems perfect for special occasions. You are required to have a password to get in and the old mafia gangster ambience was a refreshing break from the usual restaurant scene in Albuquerque. Good food. Sme of the add-ons to the meals seem overpriced. We added shrimp to the steak. Three (3) shrimp will set you back $20. There was a gentleman who played piano when we were there. It set a more romantic atmosphere.

The light is low -- depending on your table and age, you might need your pocket LED to read the menu -- and on the revenue the prices could raise the owner could pay off the force from the chief on down! There was a local band on stage from the relatively early hour of 7:30, and their music was great, though loud enough to wake the prohibition dead. The steaks are great, the sides are expertly crafted, and the wine list is excellent -- though the markup is high at the low end. Was very fun and different. We ate in the lounge area during the performance so I can't speak to the noise in the restaraunt. Bar was lovely with great drinks and fabulous ambiance. The ribeye steak was a little thin the prime rib however was delectable. The owner Michael was very cordial and spent time with us and our mixologist Daniel hooked us up with our favorite libations.

We went for my wife's birthday this visit. We were the only couple seated in the bar area, at a booth. The bartender was our waitress. This was the first time that we were never asked if we were celebrating anything, even when I had roses sitting at the table for my wife. She never mentioned any specials either. Each time we have gone to Vernon's, which is usually for a special occasion, we are offered a free dessert to split, which is comped by Vernon's. This time, however, the waitress made us pay for a dessert and I had to ask for a candle to put on it for my wife's birthday. The atmosphere is very unique and romantic...definately a "no kids zone." I am not much of a meat eater, but would eat at Vernon's Steakhouse EVERY day if possible!
