The Brazilian stew was outstanding! The lamb chops were a little bland but cooked well. Service was so slow even though the restaurant was fairly empty, at the early 6:15 dinner hour. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive so, we determined that the kitchen must be slow. The duck, also, was unimpressive. The grilled vegetables were delicious and slightly crisp. Perfectly seasoned!

Interesting fusion of cuisines here. If you don't like very spicy food or cilantro, as I don't, you have to do some creative dodging here. My server was very gracious and helpful in selecting items I would enjoy, and it did enjoy them. The same server was a little inattentive otherwise, and it took a lot to get her attention. All in all, good place if you like Indian Latin fusion.

Very much enjoyed this restaurant. A nice fusion of Indian and Latin food. We had some small plates and some of us had an entree. The ribs were delicious. The crusted fish was just so-so. I would go back as I found the food to be quite good and interesting. If you plan on going with someone who isn't very daring, check out the menu before doing so. Enjoy.

I'd been here once before, a few years ago, with a group, and I remember it fondly. This time I brought my wife, and we enjoyed the chimichurri NY Strip and the Lobster Portuguese after enjoying the scallops and coconut shrimp as an appetizer -- we shared everything. Though the shrimp was a bit overcooked and she found the steak spicy (she's a real gringo about spice), we enjoyed all of the food. It's a beautiful space, very hip.

The food is good, but prices are high for what is essentially an Indian restaurant. Service is poor. Our server tried to push entrees that were substantially more expensive than what we had ordered. The wine list is small and has no vintages; after asking "Do you know anything about wine?", she recommended two much more expensive bottles, one of which I know from personal experience is mediocre. Food was delivered by servers who were unfamiliar with our order; they just put the wrong plate down in front of each person. Used utensils were not removed between courses. The check was very slow in coming, and then the credit card voucher had a charge that was not on our bill. The charge was removed, but was another indication of poor service.

This was our first time to eat at Vermillion. The Indian-Latin fusion is a very interesting--and logical--combination. My husband had a vegetarian entree (there is an entire vegetarian menu), an eggplant dish with a sauce that includes tamarind. The eggplant was crispy, and the sauce was tasty. We split a salad that included citrus fruit and greens and other tasty things. Very good. I wanted what was a tapas dish--Mysore lamb chops--for my entree, so they doubled it for me and substituted the rice side with garlic spinach. It came with a chimichurri sauce on the side, and the chops were coated with a spicy mixture. I normally don't care for thinl chops, but these were so tasty I didn't care. I will recommend vermillion to friends.

This was the 3rd time dining at Vermillion in the past 4 years when traveling to Chicago. The waitress was clearly unhappy when our party of 4 only ordered drinks and entrees, not going with her recommendation of small plates for the table. The food was very tasty especially the skirt steak. The biggest disappointment was paying $15 for Jim Beam on the rocks when signature drinks were $14 each. I don't consider Jim Beam top shelf. I am not sure I will return for a forth visit.

I went to Vermiliin when it first opened. I thought the food great but pricey. I also thought it was really meant for visitors to Chicago, not locals based on its close to the loop location. I went again recently with a friend and had a great time. The food was as good as I remembered and because we shared dishes, not as pricey. We were warmly received by the server who encouraged us to return, with tips on good nights for specials. I will definitely return and really appreciated the warm welcome back!

We ordered five small plate dishes to share, and they were so unremarkable, I would have to look at the receipt to see what they were. Nothing quite Indian, or Latin, enough. Spice levels were generally mild to moderate. Service really pushed the drinks, all overpriced. The space felt like it was a mash up of various prior restaurants, with no unifying theme. Service was off and on. The first plate took so long, we thought they might have forgot us. After they started, the pacing was fine.

Visitors to Chicago, we got lost and arrived at 10:02pm. The reservation, of course, had been cancelled and we were almost turned away. However, Sarah (bartender and server) and Tony (manager) made an exception and invited us in. SO very glad they did. Don't miss Vermilion. Food was delicious (we ordered a bunch of small plates to have tastes of everything) and fun cocktails (Sarah knows what she's doing) and the staff overall stayed later for us and provided an exceptional dining experience. Yum. Don't miss Vermilion. I know our visit to Chicago wouldn't have been as delicious.

Six of us had the pleasure of eating at Vermillion this last time we were in Chicago. We were looking for a unique restaurant that had great options for vegetarians and meat lovers. Vermillion was perfect. the food was delicious for both the carnivores and herbivores amongst us. Service was attentive, without being too rushed and we enjoyed the cocktails too. Oh, and how great to be able to hold a conversation at a large table while dining, as the restaurant was quite. We will be back!

Loved the black and red decor. Discouraging that on a Friday lunch there were only two tables of diners. Wonderful server, Benjamin. My friend LOVED her pork naan sandwich; I liked my duck one less well (Server said it was pretty spicy and he was right). Nicely served, great fries. HIGH wine by the glass price and we were surprised b/c we thought they were 10 and 12 dollars and they were 14 and 15 - I asked and 10 and 12 were the vintages - confusing way to present on menu - and Very Overpriced (Nobilo, which I had, is usually $14-18 A BOTTLE and often on sale for $9.99. That's just TOO high

My family and I went to my birthday dinner at Vermillion and though we were impressed with the decor and ambiance, we were very disappointed in the food. The portions were very small, our food arrived cold to the table, and we were not checked on once during dinner. I was very upset that I had chosen an upper scale Indian restaurant only to be very much let down. The prices would suggest excellent food and an impeccable dining experience but that was not the case for us. We will not be returning to Vermillion and I surely will not be recommending this restaurant to my Indian and non-Indian friends.

We arrived an hour prior to our reservation to have drinks at the bar. The bartender, Sarah, was very friendly & provided wonderful suggestions about the wine list; extensive by-the-glass options, well-priced for the area. Once seated for dinner we ordered a couple of appetizers: Coconut shrimp and a scallop dish. Both were great, though the scallops had quite a kick to them which was not mentioned in the description. Further perusing the menu, I noticed that none of the dish descriptions mentioned the spice/heat factor. When I asked our waitress for dishes that were NOT spicy, she mentioned only three. I had the Butter Chicken, which was outstanding, and my companion had a delicious & spicy lobster. Fabulous, quieter restaurant!

Great food. South American + Indian: a myriad of choices of our favorite things. Appetizers: Stuffed hungarian wax pepper with Chorizo, Duckk Vindaloo and a beef skewer thing. All top notch. Lobster Portugese + Steak and Shrimp Curry for entrees. Somewhat overpriced, even by Chicago standards, but an enjoyable meal.
