Owned by Chef Charles Tutino and his wife, Jane Witkin, Verjus serves contemporary French/New American cuisine in a stylish, understated dining room decorated with works by local artists. The menu changes daily and seasonally, taking advantage of local markets and direct sourcing whenever possible. Verjus has a full bar and a list of excellent wines, primarily French and American, at surprisingly low prices. Verjus also features an extensive line of single malt scotches.Continued

  • "Three of us went to Verjus for Sunday brunch. The meal started with fresh-squeezed orange juice and a hard roll with grapefruit marmalade. We all ordered the New England clam chowder, which was excellent although the "clam count" varied from one bowl to the next. Two of us ordered the crab cakes and the other got the French toast. All were wonderful. The espresso was declared "perfect" by a woman with many years' experience drinking espresso. The dining room is small but not cramped and the noise level is very good for brunch."

But are server was average at best and disappeared for long stretches at a time. We rated it noisy based on where we were sitting as the 4 two tops were right on top of each other."

The only critic (and its not really anything) we have is that the customers are usually much older than we are (mid-thirties) and you can feel a bit out of place. That said, highly recommended..."

  • "We had never dined at this restaurant and upon arrival the hostess(owner) was not very welcoming. After sitting for at least 15 minutes we finally got a server to take a drink order. The entire evening food service was very slow. The wait staff was very nice , however the owner had been going from table to table . When she stopped at our table she quickly asked how table 8 was doing we said great, fine and she quickly sped away. She then spent 20 minutes at the table next to us with her back to our table. Considering the food was just "good " , the least an owner should do is be welcoming and let het patrons feel like you want them to come back."

  • "We have always enjoyed eating at Verjus because of its authentic French cuisine but we weren't happy with the service this time. We had to wait about a half hour for our appetizer after our order was taken and at least that long after our appetizer plates were cleared before the main course appeared. We were in the midst of waiting an extended time for dessert when the maitresse d' came by and we told her we were still waiting for it. She said she'd take care of it. Sure enough, a server came over the table a few minutes later with dessert -- but unfortunately not what we ordered. We ate it anyhow because we couldn't bear the thought of an additional wait. No problem if you want to dawdle over your meal but we didn't."

  • "We were so pleased to be able to get a reservation at Verjus for a later New Year's Eve dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and invited conversation. The menu is classical French with a few twists. The beef bourguignon enticed three of four in our group and they all rated it delicious. My hangar steak was done to perfection and way too much to eat. We passed on dessert but wished we had left room. All in all, a great experience that we hope to repeat."

We were there on Christmas Eve, and the restaurant was full so service was, understandably, a little slow, but the wait was worth it. We'll be back soon!"
