VeritasNo table availableI was surprised when the hostess told me that they were sending me to the bar instead of a table since i didn't re-confirmed my reservation. What is the point to reserve at open table if the restaurant is not going to respect it. Finnaly spoke to the manager and she solve the problem quickly.
The service provide by the waiter was fantastic and the food excellent.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMStaff was friendly, atmosphereStaff was friendly, atmosphere congenial. Food was top notch, way more interesting than some of the other top-rated places in the neighborhood and elsewhere. Wine list goes on forever and geared towards the high end. Specialty cocktails were perfectly prepared. Anxious to return soon.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, good mealThis is a very elegant and comfortable restaurant. From the moment you walk in the door, the staff is warm and welcoming. Throughout the meal they were attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Our waiter was excellent in helping us pair wines with our courses. So the service was excellent!
The food was very good but fell slightly short of outstanding. There are personal preferences but I felt that the dishes lacked the subtle nuances that separate a great meal from the truly extraordinary. It was certainly enjoyable and the portions were generous. The small touches such as the small treats at the end of the meal and a pair of muffins wrapped and delivered with the check was a gracious touch.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery gracious service...........perVery gracious service...........perfect evening!!!!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVeritas is hitting on all cylindersWhat I want is great food, an extensive wine list with value pricing, an attractive room that accomodates my purpose, and energy to keep things flowing. Veritas has it all. Somm Alex was very helpful in navigating the wine list. We started with 2008 Aubert Lauren, the Pan Roasted Scallop (sliced) to accomodate seared foie gras in the middle, "Ocean & Land" which was Lobster and a large bone sliced down the middle to reveal bone marrow, and "Beef in Transition." These were tasty, creative and wine-friendly. We ordered 1.5L mag 2001 Shafer Hillside Select. This 100 point Parker wine was a deal at $935. For our mains, my wife and I split the Roasted Duck and the Maple-Brined Wooly Pig. Everything was fabulous. We will go back again!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMVeritas speaks Volume quietlyImmediately when you walk in Veritas you are greeted with welcoming smiles by the Veritas Team. It's a wonderful start to a highly anticipated evening. The room is simple yet elegant and strategically positioned tables are spaced appropriately apart so the diners are not intruding in each others conversations. A well executed menu is one of the stars from Executive Chef Hazen. It also complemented the Chateauneuf Du Pape which we ordered. Mind you, you should glance the extensively elegant wine list presented by Veritas before you order the food. All in all all expectations were met and you will not be disappointed.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food! Chef even cameAmazing food! Chef even came out to express his passion for the mammoth mussels he expertly served. This place is the real deal. I will be returning soon.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVeritas is a delightful restaurantVeritas is a delightful restaurant and the food is fabulous. The menu offerings are incredibly unique and the food is amazing both in presentation and in taste. The service is very good but incredibly slow and inattentive. We had to wait forever after ordering drinks and we could never find our server. Otherwise, the evening was wonderful.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous service and gorgeousFabulous service and gorgeous food - a really spectacular experience!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely a wonderful experience!!Absolutely a wonderful experience!! Everything was perfect! Serving staff & sommelier were extremely helpful. The chef himself came to assist with a gluten free menu selection. Gluten free breads were made for 2 in our party with advance notification. The atmosphere was lovely, candles, wood, comfortable chairs, warm, & welcoming. One of the best meals ever. Fabulous food and a world class wine list.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent - best for gluten freeOnce again a fabulous experience. Being gluten free makes dining out hard, the pastry chef uses Thomas Kellers cup 4 cup to great effect, salt and pepper bread to start, and some excellent lemon poppy seed bread as a gift to take home. Also the head chef present and chatting with the guests.....4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe did a chef's tasting andWe did a chef's tasting and it was out of this world.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA real gem and great findIt was my first time at Veritas. When specials were being told to us an option was provided for a tasting menu for the table where you could speak with the chef and tell him what you like and don't like/can't eat. Typically these tasting arrangements allow the chef to make you only what he/she wants to serve you and you are out of luck if food comes out that you don't love. He served up several small plates/courses and everything he prepared was delicious. It was truly special and the chef was eager to please. Wine list was extensive but I would have liked to have seen more choices at more reasonable price points. Service was attentive. This restaurant will now be placed in my rotation.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAll of the proteins - scallops,All of the proteins - scallops, lobster, chicken, and even foie -served to us were overcooked, to my taste. It is a tribute to Veritas that they still made my dining experience thoroughly enjoyable. Service was *very* practiced, for better and worse, but seemed to have an earnest desire to make us happy. Oh yeah, and we loved the desserts.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there for a birthdayFirst time there for a birthday celebration. Everything from the greeting as we entered the restaurant till we left was perfect. Every menu item we tried was perfect. My new favorite restaurant especially since it is not a scene and having a conversation without raising voices is possible.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTop-notch Dining!!Fantastic atmosphere, wonderful food, and encyclopedic and discerning wine list. Friendly, attentive staff. Restaurants like this are what make Manhattan dining so singular and such a treat.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat chill ambiance whichGreat chill ambiance which can be romantic and works just as well for small groups or friends. Slightly modern and slightly rustic. Great food. Highly recommended!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth It...The food and service were fresh, original and prett outstanding. Loved that they had an option from the Union Sq. green market around the corner. The back room was lovely. Perfect for entertaining out of town family or other special guests.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Veritas beforeWe have been to Veritas before and were anxious to return. The Restaurant did not disappoint. Food was exquisite -I had the most delicious duck ever and my oyster appetizer was outstanding! the wine list is one of the most extensive I have ever seen, and while many wines were stratospheric in price, there were plenty that were both reasonably priced and excellent. this restaurant is among the best of the best!1/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe maple-brined wooly porkThe maple-brined wooly pork was ok. My friend had the striped bass, which was better. The options are diverse. The chocolate mousse dessert was ok. Service was excellent and efficient. It's a nice date place.1/5/2013 12:00:00 AMfantastic servicewe were well cared for and the servers and chef tried their best to accommodate our schedule as we had tickets to a show that night. only problem was we needed more time to properly enjoy all of that food! but I can't blame the restaurant for that. I would suggest the tasting menu on a night where you have lots of time, that way you can relax and enjoy everything properly!10/6/2012 12:00:00 AMGreat wines & food, at steep pricesIn vino veritas, indeed. The wine list is beyond amazing - even daunting, with many fine selections. Wines by the glass are equally amazing - and, at $27.50 a pour, breathtakingly pricey. The food was superb - great blends of textures and tastes, such as a gorgeous sliver of seared foie gras slipped in between perfectly grilled scallops in the gentlest of sauces.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
