  • "I just moved here from Austin, Texas. I was beginning to lose all hope for any decent Mexican food here in Pittsburgh, when a friend recommended Verde. While a bit pricey, the food and menu items are fantastic. Not many places are going to offer quality salsas like here, or authentic interesting ingredients like huitlacoche. The food here rivals anything I've had in Austin or Mexico City. Excellent work!"

  • "This place has a killer deal on Monday nights, which is $2 off margaritas, which are already inexpensive to begin with! We got the house margarita for $5.50 each, and both were delicious! They also have some great cocktails created by the bartenders on menu. The tacos are about on-par with what you would pay at a place like Round Corner, but I found them to be more filling. If you have at least 2 people, getting the "Family Style" and building your own tacos is the way to go. We ended up sitting at the bar. Hannah and John were the nicest bartenders you could ever ask for. They were attentive and very warm to us. We will most certainly be back. I wish it didn't have TV screens, but that's a minor nitpick, as the sound was muted."

  • "After a sip of DH's drink, we were expecting (and looking forward to) a spicy meal. Our food was good, but bland. We chose the hottest salsa option and it was really only medium. Also, the veggies and sauce with the flautas were the same as with our fish tacos. It would have been good to know that when we ordered as we would have selected something different. The food had potential, and the outside area would be great if it ever gets warm....but it needs more spice!"

  • "and I got it at Verde. I attended the Tequila and Margarita class before dinner - never knew there were so many types of Tequila! The food was wonderful - I had the "Pescado of the Day" which happened to be swordfish and it was absolutely wonderful for a reasonable price. Ambience was less than what I expected - reminded me of a Jiffy Quick Lube garage with tables - but I look forward to going back in the summer and sitting on the outside patio while sipping a margarita."

  • "This is our second trip to Verde, having tried it once just after it opened. On our first visit, waited almost 35 minutes to be offered drinks. The food was great, so we thought we would wait a while and return. Maybe they were just working out the kinks with the new opening. Not true. It has been over year since our last visit, and the service is still terrible. I had to refill my own water from the pitcher that was purchased at the hostess stand - I asked my server three times for refill and he ignored me. The food takes forever to come out from the kitchen. It was tasty though. I would only recommend Verde for dinner if you're with someone that you absolutely want to spend quite a while talking to. You're going to have the time."

  • "The restaurant is really cute and has good food. The bar has a great selection and the life of the restaurant. The restaurant is small so when the front door opens everyone freezes. I was there previously and able to sit outside which was a much better environment. The service is good when it's there; the wait staff seems stretched thin, we had a different person filing out water and bringing our food out. Only saw the waitress to order, which took a good 15 minutes and to get our check."

  • "We tried Verde after recommendations that it was vegan friendly. I did not find it particularly vegan friendly (no vegan cheese, sour cream, etc.) but it was vegetarian friendly. I wouldn't say Verde was anything better than your typical Mexican restaurant however. We will probably just stick to the Mexican restaurants in our neighborhood unless it becomes particularly vegan friendly."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Verde for Valentine's day. The food was wonderful, the drinks were tasty, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I only have two complaints that are minor. 1st, we were placed at the table which was right next to the door. I would have preferred to sit elsewhere as it did not feel particularly intimate with people coming in and out of the door, which also made it very cold. Also someone knocked over the coat rack as they were leaving where our coats were hanging. I chalk this up to bad luck in being seated there, but it did look to me as if there were other two tops available, and we did have a reservation. Our server took a some time to great us but after that he was very prompt and pleasant."

  • "This is the second time I've eaten here, and the quality of the service was pretty low both times. This last time was on Valentines day. I made a reservation and specifically asked to have a table away from the door. When we showed up, the hostess put us RIGHT BY THE DOOR, even though there were several open tables. So I had to ask her to move us to one of those, which she begrudgingly did. The server we had was equally inattentive, even though the place wasn't particularly busy (even though it was Valentines day). We lacked some silver ware, and though we asked him for some, he never brought it. I had to go steal some fro one of the empty tables. The food was still really great, though, but I don't think I'll be heading back here..."

  • "Verde is great because they have both great food and are extremely capable of catering to your dietary needs as well. Whether it's Valentine's Day dinner, a Sunday brunch, or just the occasional visit, they have been remarkable at providing excellent vegetarian and vegan options. All of the food is top notch including the vegetarian options. I am vegan, and even when i'm not finding what I want on the regular or special menu they always provide me with off menu options that are fantastic as well. My girlfriend, who is not vegan but a particular foodie, always finds fantastic food options for her needs. Verde's chefs understand what it means to be an excellent chef."

  • "Dinner was very good, I was disappointed with the limited menu they had for the night, which was very small and you only had 4 options for each course. I wanted the Brussels sprouts one of my favorite foods on there menu and I was unable to get them. They do always offer Gluten Free foods which is one of the reasons we travel to this restaurant."

  • "The service at Verde was terrific. Our server checked in regularly but was not intrusive. The space is very inviting; you feel as if you can hang out there all day. And the bar made a spectacular margarita. However, the food was ultimately just okay, which was a bit of a disappointment. Two of the three diners ordered the shrimp taco, which they thought tasted "funky" (not in an off way, mind you). I liked the mixture of spices in the shrimp taco. The other two tacos ordered were, to my taste, over seasoned. I spent the rest of the evening drinking water attempting to get the taste of over-salted food out my system. The over seasoned dishes was a common observation."

  • "I have been going to Verde since it opened and when the new chef started and I went this summer I was greatly disappointed. The things I loved about Verde were gone. The restaurant really listened to its customers and this fall changed back the things people missed while keeping the new favorites it had added (like the tasting menu). The food is great quality. Lunch was quick and a great price for such good quality food. It is VERY gluten free friendly - the staff and cooks seem to do a great job and are aware with the menu also marked clearly. It is a good, upscale version of Mexican food without the prices being too high."

  • "Returned after being disappointed with Verde right after they opened. They have fixed the kinks, and I will return. The food is top-rate and fairly priced. The drinks are strong, and the beer is foamy. The salsas are excellent, esp the chipotle salsa. The chips are warm. Our waitress was a sweetheart. I also had the roasted brussels sprouts with an interesting and yummy ricotta cheese sauce that everyone enjoyed. Yumm."

  • "Although the food was fine, we were really disappointed to find that Verde has discontinued the chef's tasting menu. We were there in October and experienced one of our best meals ever. This trip we were forced to order from the menu and it was really just mediocre. A few good things - queso fundido and the mahi mahi tacos, but some bad - soggy taco shells, flavorless chicken. It was also freezing in there - they need to get some more space heaters - it's really uncomfortable at the tables near the door. Unfortunately, probably won't go back for dinner without the tasting menu."

  • "Met family there for their Sunday brunch and had a wonderful meal. The server was attentive without being intrusive, made excellent suggestions for food and drink choices and was friendly. There were food choices available for anyone including those with gluten free and vegetarian requirements. We had a pleasant, relaxed lunch and were able to spend time talking. The decor is tasteful - bright and airy with a southwest flair (as you would expect). Noise level allowed conversation without difficulty - the atmosphere was casual - fit for folks coming from church or those relaxing."

  • "I'd driven past Verde (a striking glass-and-green building) but had never eaten there until a friend suggested it for a group get-together. We decided to try a range of appetizers and tacos. The first round of plates arrived quickly. The tamales were delicious, the chile relleno was savory and spicy, and there were enough flautas on the plate for a full meal. It took a long (long, long) time for our tacos to arrive -- it was a weekend night with two very large parties in the dining room -- but our server was courteous and the kitchen comped one of the dishes. Luckily, the tacos were worth the wait. The barbacoa was a standout although they were all good. Sophisticated (NOT Tex or Cal Mex) flavors; fun atmosphere; reasonable prices."
