Diner Reviews
  • "We are frequent diners at Veranda's and always look forward to the opening of their outdoor patio/bar setting for elfresco dining. Perfect spot for an enjoyable evening."

  • "We had the Carpaccio and Burrata appetizers which were amazing. Both were served with a high quality olive oil finish. The eggplant and Sicilian Pork cutlets were also excellent."

  • "We really loved dining here. We were celebrating my son"s graduation & found this the perfect place to celebrate! The food was good, the champagne was nice too & the waiter( Lee?) was really helpful & outstanding. Overall we had a wonderful experience! My son had the shrimp & scallops dish, my daughter had the fried eggplant dish & i had the peas & corn risotto- all were very good!! We had ordered a champagne which was not available so the waiter recommended another one which was good (& we got it for the same price!)"

  • "Food and service great. Celebrated a birthday, had a very nice surprise dessert Owner on premises and a joy to visit with"

  • "Food was average, the waiter inattentive, and the conversations around us so loud that our evening was disappointing. Even the lovely outdoor patio did not make up for it. Doubt that we will be back"

  • "Loved the outdoor patio, great ambience. Food was great and service was excellent. Will definitely go back again. "

  • "So far our favorite items on the menu are the wonderful starter of burrata with tomatoes, garlic chips and olive oil and the short rib entree. Can't wait for tomato season to make this starter totally irresistible, but even with winter tomatoes, it is an excellent item to share. We've had the beef short rib and risotto entree twice and it was delicious each time. We'll be back for these two and explore the rest of the menu."

  • "We chose to try this restaurant for brunch to celebrate an anniversary. Service was slow, food was cold. Disappointed."

  • "We tried the Veranda for graduation this year and had a mixed experience. The food was all very good, and the menu offered many choices. The offset to the good food was that the entrée arrived before the appetizer was eaten, and we finished the whole meal in 45 minutes. I understand it was graduation night and they were going to be swamped, but we felt a bit disappointed that we were not allowed the time to savor the meal and the event, instead being through a speed-eating dinner. We may try it again, during a normal time, to see if things are more enjoyable."

  • "I had the Lamb Chops which I would say were very good; not spectacular but very good. The other people at my table at the pasta carbonara, a steak , and the seafood pasta (shrimp and scallops). I tasted each of their dishes and all of those were great! Very highly recommended pasta dishes. "

  • "My family and I enjoyed a very nice evening following my graduation from Madison College. We are all from out-of-town and didn't know the area or anyone in Madison. I made the reservation based on the menu and it was a big hit with all of my family! Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was great, and we had our own little area of the restaurant. "

  • "The food and drinks were to die for. Service was just ok. Never refilled water till end of meal. Was going to order salad but waiter took so long to come back decided not to. Didn't have good answers to some of menu questions. The back room was EXTREMELY LOUD,!! We'll still go back. The host was very accommodating. A hidden gem. Bartender and appetizer presentation at bar very nice!"

  • "The walleye Friday night special was a hit! Ambiance was great, as was the service."

  • "We had a great dinner on Thursday night. The food was bursting with great flavors. I had the Rigatoni Veranda style. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. All in our party had great meals that evening and a friend went on Friday evening and had an equally great meal. A little off the beaten path but find this place . You will be glad you did. The bar is great and extremely well staffed and supplied. It was a little cool to sit out on the lovely patio that evening but maybe the next time. It calls for you."

  • "Mothers Day was too overbooked. We waited over 1 1/2 hours for food. Server was new but tried to be helpful. One entree and my sons fruit drink were taken off the tab but the wait was way too long. We are talking eggs and pancakes not a full dinner. The food and presentation were good but overall the service was spotty. Bloody Mary glasses were small and one arrived with olives and pickle and one came only with a tiny lime. A lot of ice and too little liquid. The food arrived without silverware and my son's sausage order was forgotten until he was half finished with his pancake. We have been here under different management and enjoy the atmosphere but this time wasn't great."

  • "Service seemed a little slow, but I could see the restaurant was very busy with Mother's Day brunch. Our group of 4 was pleased with the Veranda as a setting for our Mother's Day celebration."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get our food. No apologies, no explanation, and to make it worse they only refilled our water one time during that whole time. It's one thing to be short staffed in the kitchen and try to make up for it. It's another to not care and just ignore the issue. We used to love this place, but now we done plan to be back. Way to put a damper on my wife's first Mother's Day."

  • "We could tell that the food at Veranda was prepared with some care and affection. Lots of greens, pure ingredients. A little out of the way but worth the 15 minute or so drive from Madison."

  • "Seating was immediate for our lunch and the hostess and waiter were very friendly and efficient, without being overbearing. We were seated at a very comfortable booth in the main bar area. The lunch menu has a great selection. We ordered the PEI Mussels which arrived piled high in a bowl, there must have been at least 2 dozen! They were excellent! We used the bread that was served at the start of our lunch to soak up the delicious broth. We also had an order of tagliatelle with jumbo wild caught scallops and gulf shrimp, another winner! Prices were very reasonable. Great wine selection. No blaring TV made it easy to have a conversation, another plus. I would definitely recommend Veranda and will definitely be returning there."

  • "The food was great. Not my taste, but well executed. We had a reservation and the place was pretty empty. They sat us at a small table next to a huge group of loud businessmen. Not that big of a deal, but not ideal. The waiter was obviously overworked, and was inattentive-not his fault. They gave us a fork&knife at the beginning of the meal, on the table. Once our meals arrived, after appetizers, no new silverware was given. We had to take some from an empty table nearby. Again, not that big of a deal, but disappointing for a place that is supposed to be this nice/expensive. We ordered an ice cream dessert and it was GREAT. But it wasn't what was listed on the menu. Lots of little things that made us not want to come back. "

  • "We live close to Veranda but have not visited in the last 6 months. The menu is different now and not nearly as good. The food was fine but not great. Service was lacking, we didnt even get greeted at our table for more than 15 minutes. No apologies either. Our server was nice when she came to our table, but never even asked us how our food was. Although our food came quickly, mine was lukewarm. Overall, very disappointed compared to past visits. With all the other great Madison restaurants, we will not be going back anytime soon."

  • "My husband and I have now ate at Veranda for both lunch and dinner. Both times, the food was outstanding and service was solid. However, the atmosphere is just a little slow for us for a weekend dinner out. There were approximately twenty other people in the restaurant which made us feel very alone. It's really our preference to be around a lot of people and have a vibrant atmosphere after a long week at work so I don't think we'll come back for dinner. We ate lunch a few months ago at Veranda and again there were not very many people there but it was more acceptable for a laid back lunch on a Saturday or Sunday. We would like to try the Happy Hour and see if that's an improvement, but overall just not quite what we would prefer for dinner."

  • "My husband and I went here for a Friday date night. We made sure to make reservations just in case it was busy. When we arrived, it took the hostess about 2 minutes to notice we were standing there because she was talking to someone. She immediately took us to a private area where we could choose where to sit. Our waiter got to us fairly quickly and had some suggestions about what to try on the menu. The wine list was quite extensive which was a wonderful treat . All in all it was a good experience and my husband and I will definitely be back! It is a great place for people who love developed flavors and enjoy true Italian cooking. This is NOT the Olive Garden so DO NOT expect the same flavors!"

  • "My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely brunch. Nice and quiet, wait staff was attentive, and the food was very good - what more could we ask on a Sunday morning."

  • "The menu looks reat, and the wine list is very good. I would definitely try this place agani, in order to try more items on the menu. The pasta dish I had, Rigatoni Veranda Veranda Stle was very tasty, and the pasta itself was excellent. My wife had the Avacodo Pesto Spghetti; not so good. SHe said it was oka, jusy a little plain. For instanc, the menu says with grpae tomatoes, as it was part of the preparation of the dish, when actually the grape tomatoes were just garnish. We will definitely go back because my dish was so good, and there are so many other items that look good on the menu. The wine list by the glass was very good, and the price of the wine by the glass were somewhat reasonable."

  • "As a gluten-free diner, I struggle to find a place that offers me more than one or two options. Veranda's menu made it very easy to locate my options. All items that are made gluten-free or can be made gluten-free are marked clearly. We had the caprese salad and the beef carpaccio to start. The caprese was delightful (and really, how can you mess up a combination of mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil) with just the right amount of balsamic. The carpaccio was fresh and flavorful, but I think we could have done with a smaller mound of arugula overtop. I enjoyed the bolognese, and was very satisfied knowing that my meal was not going to make me ill. Thanks for the delicious food and a great night out!"

  • "While the Isthmus has an amazing density of very good restaurants, the far west and south sides do not. Veranda is a welcome addition for this very reason. Creative food with quality, locally sourced ingredients. A summer patio. The presence of the owners on sight taking pride in their establishment. We went there for a Sunday mid-day meal, avoiding the thousand calories of a $30 brunch. Veranda had many offerings in the $10 range--creative omelettes plus their full luncheon menu. Inside could use an update, but this place is more than fine for casual dining. We will be back."

  • "I found Veranda on OpenTable because they had 1000 point reservations that Friday night. So we gave it a try. We had an excellent visit. The restaurant's strength is their staff - very friendly and attentive. The food was good but nothing especially creative - standard Italian food. We felt the prices were very good and the wines were not-at-all over priced. Though we didn't experience it first hand, we heard they have a crazy good happy hour that people really like especially in summer when the outdoor area is open. We'll definitely visit again."

  • "Great food selection, food is excellent and prices are reasonable. $5 for a 10 oz or $6 for a 16 oz beer is a bit out of line for the area though. Nearby places offer $4/23 oz - $5.50/20 oz for beer selections that are equal or better. It's easy enough to just not drink beer there, but it seemed a bit odd considering that the food prices for the quality are very competitive."

  • "As expected, a thoroughly pleasant experience. The menu has a good mix of tradition and exotics items, to suit any mood that I'd likely to bring with me. A peeve ~ the "martiini" list. There only one martini, and you know the recipe. Those other items must certainly be appealing, but they aren't martinis. I hope that fad dies before I do."

  • "If your only experience with Italian cooking is Beef-a-roni and Olive Garden, you will be disappointed. If you appreciate real Italian cuisine made with fresh local ingredients, you're in for a pleasant surprise. I was told to try Veranda by a friend and I was at first skeptical. First, the restaurant is in Fitchburg. And it feels like it's in the middle nowhere. But it's only a few minutes from downtown Madison. It's definitely a destination restaurant. I had the short ribs. Amazing. Authentic. We started with the calamari. Above average. And the dipping sauce was a nice touch. Overall a very good experience."

  • "I would not recommend a restaurant, especially an italian restaurant, that does not offer bread with their meals. Food was average (we had rigattoni and spaghetti dishes) with the sauces watery. Also, menu is quite limited. Atmosphere was too loud for Valentine's Day. I will not go back."
