Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I have now ate at Veranda for both lunch and dinner. Both times, the food was outstanding and service was solid. However, the atmosphere is just a little slow for us for a weekend dinner out. There were approximately twenty other people in the restaurant which made us feel very alone. It's really our preference to be around a lot of people and have a vibrant atmosphere after a long week at work so I don't think we'll come back for dinner. We ate lunch a few months ago at Veranda and again there were not very many people there but it was more acceptable for a laid back lunch on a Saturday or Sunday. We would like to try the Happy Hour and see if that's an improvement, but overall just not quite what we would prefer for dinner."

  • "Excellent sangria, great food and service all at a reasonable price. I can hardly wait for the weather to warm up so we can be outside on their pretty patio."

  • "My husband and I went here for a Friday date night. We made sure to make reservations just in case it was busy. When we arrived, it took the hostess about 2 minutes to notice we were standing there because she was talking to someone. She immediately took us to a private area where we could choose where to sit. Our waiter got to us fairly quickly and had some suggestions about what to try on the menu. The wine list was quite extensive which was a wonderful treat . All in all it was a good experience and my husband and I will definitely be back! It is a great place for people who love developed flavors and enjoy true Italian cooking. This is NOT the Olive Garden so DO NOT expect the same flavors!"

  • "My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely brunch. Nice and quiet, wait staff was attentive, and the food was very good - what more could we ask on a Sunday morning."

  • "The menu looks reat, and the wine list is very good. I would definitely try this place agani, in order to try more items on the menu. The pasta dish I had, Rigatoni Veranda Veranda Stle was very tasty, and the pasta itself was excellent. My wife had the Avacodo Pesto Spghetti; not so good. SHe said it was oka, jusy a little plain. For instanc, the menu says with grpae tomatoes, as it was part of the preparation of the dish, when actually the grape tomatoes were just garnish. We will definitely go back because my dish was so good, and there are so many other items that look good on the menu. The wine list by the glass was very good, and the price of the wine by the glass were somewhat reasonable."

  • "As a gluten-free diner, I struggle to find a place that offers me more than one or two options. Veranda's menu made it very easy to locate my options. All items that are made gluten-free or can be made gluten-free are marked clearly. We had the caprese salad and the beef carpaccio to start. The caprese was delightful (and really, how can you mess up a combination of mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil) with just the right amount of balsamic. The carpaccio was fresh and flavorful, but I think we could have done with a smaller mound of arugula overtop. I enjoyed the bolognese, and was very satisfied knowing that my meal was not going to make me ill. Thanks for the delicious food and a great night out!"

  • "While the Isthmus has an amazing density of very good restaurants, the far west and south sides do not. Veranda is a welcome addition for this very reason. Creative food with quality, locally sourced ingredients. A summer patio. The presence of the owners on sight taking pride in their establishment. We went there for a Sunday mid-day meal, avoiding the thousand calories of a $30 brunch. Veranda had many offerings in the $10 range--creative omelettes plus their full luncheon menu. Inside could use an update, but this place is more than fine for casual dining. We will be back."

  • "I found Veranda on OpenTable because they had 1000 point reservations that Friday night. So we gave it a try. We had an excellent visit. The restaurant's strength is their staff - very friendly and attentive. The food was good but nothing especially creative - standard Italian food. We felt the prices were very good and the wines were not-at-all over priced. Though we didn't experience it first hand, we heard they have a crazy good happy hour that people really like especially in summer when the outdoor area is open. We'll definitely visit again."

  • "Great food selection, food is excellent and prices are reasonable. $5 for a 10 oz or $6 for a 16 oz beer is a bit out of line for the area though. Nearby places offer $4/23 oz - $5.50/20 oz for beer selections that are equal or better. It's easy enough to just not drink beer there, but it seemed a bit odd considering that the food prices for the quality are very competitive."

  • "As expected, a thoroughly pleasant experience. The menu has a good mix of tradition and exotics items, to suit any mood that I'd likely to bring with me. A peeve ~ the "martiini" list. There only one martini, and you know the recipe. Those other items must certainly be appealing, but they aren't martinis. I hope that fad dies before I do."

  • "We live down the street from Viranda and really enjoy the service, atmosphere and the food is great! The staff seems to remember us and always treats us like VIP. Really great place. Can't wait for summer because that patio is the place to be!"

  • "If your only experience with Italian cooking is Beef-a-roni and Olive Garden, you will be disappointed. If you appreciate real Italian cuisine made with fresh local ingredients, you're in for a pleasant surprise. I was told to try Veranda by a friend and I was at first skeptical. First, the restaurant is in Fitchburg. And it feels like it's in the middle nowhere. But it's only a few minutes from downtown Madison. It's definitely a destination restaurant. I had the short ribs. Amazing. Authentic. We started with the calamari. Above average. And the dipping sauce was a nice touch. Overall a very good experience."

  • "I would not recommend a restaurant, especially an italian restaurant, that does not offer bread with their meals. Food was average (we had rigattoni and spaghetti dishes) with the sauces watery. Also, menu is quite limited. Atmosphere was too loud for Valentine's Day. I will not go back."

  • "The food was exceptional. Our server could have been more knowledgable about the food, and more attentive to our table service."

  • "I was a bit surprised after reading some of the reviews. I took my wife here for Valentines Day. The food was very good but other than that it wasn't the romantic atmosphere I thought it would be. The little room where we were seated smelled like a Mexican restaurant, the lights were too bright and our waiter, although nice, was a little slow to get our order going. It may have been because of Valentines Day that made it seem that way. Because the food was good I would give it another try but probably for more of a lunch than a nice dinner."

  • "We had reservations, but didn't get seated for nearly 15 minutes. When we were then seated, it was a corner table in the immediate bar area that was loud and darkly lit. The server was unaware our table was "hers" and after 20 more minutes we asked the hostess if we could get someone to wait on us. After the server finally realized we were assigned to her, she was friendly and attentive. The appetizer, was tiny, the rest of the food was average. My eggplant was overly seasoned with hot peppers and you couldn't taste anything else. I doubt I would recommend or go back a second time."

  • "I would possibly return for appetizers and wine in the outdoor area. One of our party ordered the spiedini. It consisted of four smaller than golf ball size pieces. Not what we expected. .Wouldn't return for dinner again."

  • "Very poor service. Staff was hardly knowledgable about any of the food items. Food was alright, felt like I was in an upscale Olive Garden."

  • "I had only been in this restaurant on two previous occasions under different ownership. I had not been particularly impressed. The new owners seem friendlier and more accommodating and the food they served was excellent. I'm not a big French fry person but the ones served here I devoured. I had the short rib sandwich which I ordered plated instead of in a sandwich since their bread was available on the side and is great. The meat was tender and flavorful. The noise level was a non factor as our group of six was able to converse easily which is a rare thing in restaurants these days. This was a delightful find."

  • "My wife and I went in for Restaurant week. We each ordered the beef ribs over the cheesy grits. Best meal I have ever had eating out! The food was phenomenal. It usually is, but this time just blew my mind!"

  • "Very nicely prepared and presented deep sea scallops. Sauces were a bit on the mild side. The dining room was fairly dark and very muted, almost drab. Redecoration recommended."

  • "We have been to this restaurant many times. We have never been disappointed. The drinks are very good. The appetizers are great. We love the raw oysters and the meat and cheese platters although the bruschetta is good too. The entrees are good, scallops are cooked to perfection. We had a cannoli here on New Years Eve that was about the best I ever had."

  • "We went for a bachelorette party over here and absolutely loved the ambience at the restaurant. Some of tried the different martinis. Boy were they strong! The chocolate martini is especially delicious. Food portions are huge (at least by my standards) and is quite amazing. The marinara sauce tastes very authentic. We were treated really well. I would go back again definitely."

  • "We came in and our server Garret recognized us from a previous time. My wife made a comment about how we were officially regulars. We love going out to Veranda for a romantic night out for delicious foods, and a nice atmosphere. We will keep coming back as it is a very welcoming comforting place to come out for dinner. The staff is very knowledgeable and inviting. Whenever friends come in from out of town, we like to take them to Veranda for an upscale Italian meal."

  • "Food was ok. It was extremely hot in the entire restaurant/bar. We were also given coupons, after payment of our meal, received no instructions if we could use them that evening or not. The expiration date was 1/31/14, therefore we assumed we could. When attempting to use them we were told we could not."

  • "We had dinner and dessert and both were excellent. The Spiedini was wonderful and came with bread for an appetizer. Sangrias were also very good and both very reasonably priced. Also be sure to try any of the desserts as they are all very good. They should bring back the banana foster dessert to the menu because it is fantastic! I will be going back again and would always send friends and family there."

  • "After reading previous reviews, we were anxious to give Veranda a try. Our experience was mediocre at best. Server was ok; not very attentive. The mushroom and roasted red pepper soups were excellent. The entrees were fine but not great. The atmosphere was rather spartan. Overall, not a great experience."

  • "Food was good. A lot of variety. I had the lamb with risotto and the risotto was not cooked well. The drink list was great and the service was incredible. I would definitely go back for drinks on their patio and appetizers."

  • "We made a reservation for 8:30PM thinking that the restaurant closes at 10PM per OpenTable. But when we got there, we were the last customers and were told that they were closing at 9PM. They were nice about it though and still welcomed us. We ordered and ate quickly partly because we were starving and partly to be considerate of the staff's hours. Service was quick and the food was good. Our server Matt was very gracious about the whole thing and didn't rush us."
