A word from Venticello
Tucked away atop Nob Hill, Venticello Ristorante, is one San Francisco’s best kept secrets. With quaint tables, a wood burning oven and views of the bay, Venticello provides a warm intimate atmosphere that is reminiscent of a Tuscan Farmhouse.
Recognized as one of the most romantic restaurants in San Francisco, we are located just a few blocks away from the historical Mark Hopkins and Fairmont Hotels, as well as walking distance from the Huntington Hotel, The Stanford Court, and the Ritz- Carlton Hotel.
As you walk into Venticello, you will enter our upstairs area. Our full and complete wooden bar is supplied with an array of distilled spirits as well as some of the finest Italian and Californian wines. This allows you and your guests to enjoy a variety of beverages while hearing the Cable Car bell ring just outside our front door.
Venticello, meaning soft breeze, will sweep you and your guests away with an unforgettable experience.

I travel to SF often and I always try to stop in for one night, whether I'm alone and sitting at the bar or with friends at a quiet table. The service is attentive and I always feel welcome. The Black Kale salad is awesome and the vegetable lasagna was perfect, with the right combination of vegetables, cheese, sauce and homemade fresh pasta sheets. Definitely returning on my next trip.

The food was solid especially the eggplant appetizer and the lasagna. The pasta based dishes were by far the better items to order. We had the pork milanese as well. The spinach accompaniment was incredibly gritty to the point we could not eat it. Though, besides that one issue we really enjoyed the meal.

My husband and I previously dined here in years past but we stopped coming when we were asked by the hostess once our time was up at our table. We had just ordered dessert so we cancelled it, paid and left. We vowed not to come back. But I thought we should and actually its been at least 5 years. So for our 31st Anniversary we decided to go on Friday. Both of us had been traveling and thought this would be a quiet place to dine. It was. Food was very very good and the service was wonderful. The "ladies" that served us were sweet, accommodating and friendly. We will be back...again. And the dessert was delicious and on them. How funny. It was very nice that they did that for our special eve and we appreciated it very much.

This is a great little neighborhood restaurant that will not disappoint. The food and service are top notch which clearly makes you eager to return time and time again. Be prepared for the possibility of fellow diners being close as some of the tables are right there with you!! A winner!!

This was a disappointment. Very loud restaurant and limited menu for an Italian theme. Salads were average and one of the party ordered soup which was a bisque that was ice cold. It was sent back and it was served so hot as if the kitchen wanted to make certain it burned the customer's mouth. The party ordered 2 pizzas. One was served crisp and the other was limp and cold. Dessert offering uninspired.

Charming neighborhood restaurant. We went for our anniversary dinner- hoping it would be a good choice. It was WONDERFUL. We had excellent service from Christian, enjoyed every dish (beef carpaccio, black kale salad, chicory salad, wild boar pappardelle, scallops, tiramisu, salted caramel gelato), and couldn't stop raving about it the next day. Delicious.

Was looking forward to this but was sadly let down by the host. Arrived at time we had booked our table but told it was in use and we had to wait 20 mins. When finally shown to the table by the host, he disappeared without providing menus and I had then to collar one of the waiting staff to request these. Food was ok and ambience fine but by then attitude of the host had ruined the evening. For example - given a lecture by him when waiting to use the bathrooms - which were both occupied. I would suggest he takes a course in customer care. Overall the experience was not a good one and based on this visit I would never return and would tell all and sundry avoid like the plague.

Dined here on the hottest night SF has experienced in years and the Giants played 18 innings. Window by table open--gentle breeze blowing up Washington. Food is consistently of high quality. Specials always reflect local offerings. Scallops were sweet and tender and chef honored request for no polenta and substituted fresh vegetables. Staff is always attentive and your water glass is never empty. No hesitation recommending Venticello.

My wife and I were looking for a neighborhood type place, without the tourist element though we were tourists, and found this gem via Zagat guide. My wife loves "real" risotto", and their crab risotto was excellent. My scallops were great too. The service was outstanding, with lots of wait staff available. We highly recommend it.

After an extremely frustrating series of events at their bar, we finally received our drinks about 25 minutes post arrival. We were then seated at a tiny, badly located four top. Thankfully they moved us to a better table after we requested it and the evening was salvaged. Because of the small size of the restaurant, table location is key to enjoyment of the dinner. Once settled, we enjoyed ourselves - service was quick and the food very good - the sausage pizza and tiger prawn appetizer were exceptional.

Venticello's was recommended by a SF resident as a local 's place: good food and fun to watch the cable cars... We arrived at six pm, not busy yet, but there is only one corner window and it was reserved,so no real way to watch cars.... Anyhow, we enjoyed our salads and pizza. The waiter was pleasant and attentive and we sat by the kitchen prep area and I was VERY impressed by the care given to every item. The kale salads were all hand tossed and the cute youn chef was very engaging . Our pizza was wonderful ...best ever....they have a brick oven...fun experience overall!

With my parents in town, we wanted to go out for a memorable meal. We were given a very nice table with an excellent view of the Bay Bridge. The waiters went out of their way to answer my Father's many questions and help him decide what to order. The food was excellent, and the service gracious. It was a true San Francisco watching the cable cars go by, and the lights of the city come up as the sun went down. Thank you Venticello!

I travel to San Francisco regularly and have been coming here on a regular basis for more than 10 years. It is consistently very good. Great atmosphere in a neighborhood restaurant. The food is not traditional Italian (if you want that their sister restaurant, Nob Hill Cafe, a few blocks up Taylor towards Nob Hill is also very good) but is very tasty and well prepared. Highly recommended.

Love the neighborhood feel of the restaurant, and the host and acting bartender made us perfect martinis while we waited for our table. Alas, the tables are all quite close, especially the deuces. We were just inches away from the couples on either side of us, making for a very cramped, "they're listening to everything I say" kind of atmosphere. If that doesn't bother you, then the food and service are just fantastic, but I guess we preferred a little more privacy and intimacy on this occasion.

The food here is really good but the service has gone down since I last dined here a couple of months ago. I live in the neighborhood and was very happy that the new general manager introduced himself the last time I dined there. This time there seemed to not be enough staff. We had a 6:15 reservation and the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. Within 15 minutes it was practically full. Our waiter was either too busy or too energetic to seem truly attentive.
