We originally had reservations at another restaurant but had to change due to additions to the dinner party. And I'm glad we ended up here. They had a great selection of wine and the food was awesome. Flat breads (Roma tomato with chorizo .. and the prosciutto was also good), steak tartare and burrata caprese salad were delicious

This was my second time at Vella but this time the service was terrible. Our entire meal was rushed. The waitress brought our mains before taking our salads. She brought us a check faster than we could think. When we sat for a few minutes after we paid, the manager came over and essentially forced us out. I am very disappointed in the service and likely will not return despite the excellent food.

Rude service I had a group of my older family members with me , some from abroad with me for brunch, our waiter was somewhat rude to them when they asked him questions, being foreigners, didn't understand his sarcastic responses.... he told us our food was not going to come out all together because the " kitchen was too small". He did give us a free drink but I was scared that he spit in it!

Looks like such a nice spot, trendy, great atmosphere. However the service is TERRIBLE. And the food is meh. Maybe it was just our server, Milesh- but after reading other reviews it seems to be a common theme. He didn't know anything about the menu, was rude, after my girlfriends and I spent so much on drinks and several apps and entrees (For a birthday dinner!!!) We asked for an extra meatball (there were 4 of us girls and the lamb meatballs comes with 3)... he said he would have to charge us of the extra!! On top of that we had a gift certificate which he said they didn't take (which they do!!! it's an open table dining check) and complained that he would have to ask his Manager. We will never go back and no one should!! AWFUL service.

Perfect for a drink and a bite (although the dinner menu looked pretty good, too). Happy hour glass of rose and a flatbread really hit the spot! Vibe is cool, friendly, and there was a mix of couples, friends, and family at about 7 PM.

We found Vella after looking for a last-minute reservation. Many reviewers complained about service, but we had no problems! Service was attentive and the food was great. It is small-plate style, which we didn't realize before we got there, but all our choices we good.

I really loved the ambience of Vella. The location is nice and the atmosphere was relaxing. I went for Sunday brunch and although the restaurant was not busy the service was SLOW/not apparent. Apparently the head chef was not in (which was apparent in the tasteless food that otherwise could have been delicious) and our server was terrible/non-existent. I would certainly give this place another shot because it was a great ambience and has a lot more potential.

Not only was our reservation not really honored (we were put in a back corner table that is not normally used for diners) but then we waited over 40 minutes for paninis and French toast. Sitting right at the pick up window for ready orders, we not only learned that the chef had run out of eggs at the brunch service but that 10 minutes later the owner had shut down all new food orders because the kitchen was out of food. Even with the edict that no new orders could be taken, the hostess continued to seat new diners! A run to a local grocery store replenished the eggs, bread and salad greens and a trip to the liquor store restocked the Prosecco but none of this would convince us to return.

The mushroom crostini was delicious. Crispy and creamy at the same time. The special shrimp cassoulet was tasty but bore little resemblance to a true cassoulet. Serving sizes were perfect. The menu is a good mix of things to graze on and share or to do traditional appetizer, entrée, and desert. The pricing is almost too reasonable. Simple wine list with something for everyone and intriguing cocktails. The service is a bit too slow and could be more attentive. The staff needs to stop talking amongst themselves and pay attention to their tables. Bottom line it was a pleasant evening and we will go back. Tonight as a matter of fact.

The service at Vella is horrific. The manager and hostess were extremely rude and gave away our table for 8 people that I had reserved a week in advance. They were rude, obnoxious, and unapologetic about their behavior. We took our business elsewhere and won't be returning to Vella ever again and would never recommend this restaurant to friends.

I went with a few of my UES girlfriends on a weeknight, and we had a really great time at Vella. The service was kind and easygoing (we never felt rushed) the food was very good, and the vibe was contemporary, fun, but also cozy. They had lots of fun craft cocktails to choose from - I'm a big fan of the Peachtree Fizz. The lobster bisque appetizer special was awesome, the cheese plate with honey and jam was lovely, and my truffle mac & cheese with bacon was in a word, delicious. I'll definitely be going back and am glad Vella is in the neighborhood.

Besides having a server who was too busy flirting with the hostess to check on his tables. The dish I ordered ended up coming covered in a sauce that I am allergic to that was not at all listed on the menu. When I explained this to the waiter and I said can I just have this without the sauce. He took my dish back to the kitchen. About 10 minutes later the waiter returned to tell me that the Chef would like to speak with me and I needed to follow him to the kitchen. Against my better judgement I went and he just looks at me and says what do you want...

So-so food in a neighborhood with much better. I might go back for a drink but everything else was just fair. I do not like the tall tables for dinner. We sat at a regular table but there are only three of them. If they had not been available, we would have left. The chef was charming and his home made cookies a nice touch. But there are so many better places to go up the block or around the corner.

I was really excited to try Vella because there aren't many wine bar restaurants UES. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow, even to get a drink ordered, and the server botched my meal order. When I explained that the other two people at our table ordered chicken but I ordered salmon the server tried to make me feel like I ordered wrong! Annoying experience and not going back.

Interesting new place in the neighborhood but the food was SLOOOw and came out cold. We waited 20 minutes for a simple mushroom crostini. Not surprisingly, it came out cold. When we requested fresh warm food the waiter was rude and offensive. He blamed the cold food on the kitchen. Since when does food come off the stove cold?? The whole experience was shocking and disturbing. This place has such promise when it first opened. We will not be returning unless they hire friendly staff and rework the kitchen.

We really enjoyed trying Vella last weekend. My fiance and I met two friends and their 15-month old. The service was perfect and friendly, the restaurant was a feast for the eyes (meats, cheeses, bottles, little French touches) and our food was delicious - and so affordable. It was hard to decide what to order - and we decided we wanted to own all of their plates and little castiron dishes. We'll have to get there earlier so when they still have the Quiche Lorraine! My friends loved their Eggs Benedict and Croque Madame - I had the French Toast, which was also wonderful. I point out that they are wonderful to little ones too! A new favorite!

This place is great if you are looking for a nice wine bar to have a glass of wine or 2 with friends. However, the service is lacking and the food, beyond flat breads and cheese plates is mediocre. The last 2 times I have been there the service has been super slow. apparently short staffed. however, if you are just looking for a place with a good ambience and some vino, give it a shot!

We tried this new restaurant/bar on a Friday night during the heat wave -- the A/C was not nearly enough to cool down what appears to be a new (and boisterously loud) neighborhood hot spot. The food was pretty decent; we especially liked the kale salad and the truffle mac and cheese. We might give it a second try on a cooler weeknight.
