Hi, I took my daughter out to lunch there for her 40th birthday, a gathering of my friends who love her. We were warmly received, and she was graciously offered a complimentary glass of champagne. I love their brunch/lunch menus, many choices, good prices, and excellent presentation. We stayed for at least 3 hours, no one was pushing us to leave, and they offered us a complimentary gift of chocolates that were marvelous. A great experience, one hard to come by....

The food has been outstanding every time my wife and I visit. We especially enjoy the brunch menu! The service is great the majority of the time, however they do not realize that customers can hear them... We have experienced one of the servers being VERY rude to one of the hostesses who was doing a great job. We also experienced a customer being very rude to the events coordinator. These were on two separate occasions. I would have preferred if a customer or fellow staff member has a problem, that they ask the person to step out onto the deck for the conversation or into a back room. We love the food, atmosphere, and service, but it was very uncomfortable to hear heated conversations not once, but twice!

This place is truly a gem! I'm big into ambiance, and this place is top notch. Spent 1 hour or so in the bar before the restaurant, recommended. The tables in the restaurant are huge and spacious and couches are used instead of chairs at many tables. They also gave me a blanket and turned down the air because I said I was cold. The food was also great! Treats from the chef were given as well. I will definitely be back here.

We had a memorable birthday celebration for my sister-in-law last weekend at Veladora. Very lucky to have her birthday coincide with restaurant week, so were able to enjoy a fantastic 3-course meal with many options for each course. All six of us agreed that every bite of every course was perfection. Appetizers included first of the season corn bisque with lobster, octopus, steak tartare, smoked salmon, and delicious greens with goat cheese. Main courses included halibut, swordfish, salmon, and filet mignon. On the dessert menu was pumpkin spice bread pudding, peanut butter cups, German chocolate cake, and fruit with sorbet. Service was impeccable ... and the ambience (understated elegance) was just right for our occasion.

What a nice find! We had never been to Veladora and decided to try it for a lunch during Restaurant Week. How delightful. We will definitely come back. The portion size and food selection for the Restaurant Week lunch was quite generous - most other nicer places give you a tiny portion and not much of a selection at all. Everything on the menu was available and we were full before we got to dessert. Service was outstanding, food spectacular - the whole experience was memorable.

A friend and I had lunch at Veladora at Rancho Valencia Inn during Restaurant Week. It was not crowded and we had a lovely table in the shade outside. The restaurant week menu had several selections and we were both pleased with our meals. Service was terrific -- timely but not intrusive. I will definitely return!

We visited Veladora last weekend with friends that were visiting from out of town. It was great to be able to share such a unique restaurant with them. Located in Rancho Valencia, Veladora is a beautiful dining location that offers a great menu for brunch or dinner. The service was outstanding and provided helpful insight when we were selecting our entrees. Our guests also loved walking the grounds after brunch - it was the perfect way to start a very peaceful and relaxing Sunday.

This was our first time back since the remodel. Had heard mixed reviews but were very happy with our experience. I liked the new décor. The food was excellent. Our service was attentive but the suggested wine pairings were way off. Fortunately, we were given tastings of the wines before ordering that helped us make the needed corrections. The corn soup was delicious as was the octopus.

This is one of my favorite restaurants for atmosphere & service. I always feel like I'm on vacation when I'm there. Usually the food is pretty good -expensive but good. But we went for restaurant week and I wasn't impressed. Shared sliders and the brick oven pizza to start & both were just ok. The scallops for the entree consisted of 3 large, tasteless scallops, some grapefruit (yes you read that correctly) a few teeny tiny potatoes and some green beens. Looked pretty but very bland and if you were hungry and ordered this you would have starved. One thing that was really disappointing- on the way out picked up my car from valet. I gave the valet $5 and asked for $2 back (not a bad tip for lunch!). Was very rude about making change.

The quality and selection of food as well as the service have always been great. The only issue is the uncomfortable seating. Pillows are provided to support the back, and sometimes i use two. If the settees were moved a little closer to the table, this would be more comfortable.

Stopped by for restaurant week (lunch - got mahi mahi, sliders, pizza and a burger). Don't let these generic foods fool you, they are so worth it at this place. The restaurant is in a beautiful location and the interior decor is completely astounding. I was expecting small portions for the price, but they were very generous with their portions, foods were cooked and spiced to perfection and so so delicious it was simply divine; I’m definitely coming back. The service is on a whole other level as well. Servers came by multiple times to check on us, and kept replacing our unfinished drinks with new ones! Everything about this place is just amazing. Come by for a casual brunch or treat yourself on a special occasion!

We made dinner reservations for the wrong night. It was a mad house when we arrived. No space for even a drink at the bar - or anywhere else. If it wasn't for the valet finding us seats, we probably would have left. Once we had a table, we enjoyed our dining experience.

Wonderful restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Food was great (lobster salad, filet mignon, cedar plank salmon), wine list was extensive and interesting, and it was quiet enough for private conversation. If we didn't live nearby, we would be tempted to vacation here at the Rancho Valencia ... they have a casual, upscale vibe that is just right.

This is a very special spot. The surroundings are magnificent, the food among the best and the service was perfect. I have never had a Beef Rib Cap before, but I will be seeking it out again! The octopus was excellent (although a bit too many potatoes and too little octopus). The goat cheese salad was just like we had in St. Barth's. The vegetable salad looked delicious and fresh. The Dover Sole was exquisite! The chocolate soufflé was perfection. All in all, a delightful evening. Although a bit pricey, it lived up to it.

We were very disappointed by the service. We did not get our bread until we asked for it. That was important for us before we taste tested our bottle of wine. Veladora is hidden away in the Fairbanks Ranch at the Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa. It is very expensive, but the ambience, service and wine list support the cost. Food is small portions, which the ladies liked, but I would have enjoyed a more substantial plateful of my spaghettini and lobster. I am not exactly sure the lobster chunks I got were from Maine lobsters as advertised; regardless, they were tasty, but small in stature. My wife had an excellent grilled fish, and our dinner partners seemed pleased with their choices as well. They did not carry Rombauer Chardonnay and they were out of DuMol , but the Lewis Chardonnay they offered was a good alternative. Great for a very special occasion. As noted, excellent service, but pricey!!

We visited Veladora while staying at the Rancho Valencia resort. Service was excellent. There seems to be a higher staff to customer ratio than at most restaurants. We had the Risotto as an appetizer, which was very well prepared and seasoned. My wife had the scallops and I had the Filet Mignon. Our entrées were prepared beautifully. The steak was exactly as ordered. We had the chocolate soufflé for dessert. Wow! The whole meal, from start to finish, was a wonderful dining experience.
