  • "I am so glad we found this place, across the street from Villa Victoria in the South End. The menu was filled with dishes I had never tried or even heard of. Notable was the mofongo, a tower of baked mashed plantain and roast pork. Our entrees - one chicken, one steak, were beautifully seasoned and prepared, and the cheese flan was sensational. Friendly, warm service, a comfortable room and very reasonable pricing make Vejigante an excellent choice for a fun evening."

  • "Loved my meal at this place. Our waitress could not have been more pleasant and friendly. We got the ceviche (a bit tangy for my taste, but good), the Steak Chimmichuri which was wonderful and the lobster meat with creole sauce which was fantastic! Our drinks were good too! I will be back!"

  • "this is the third time at the restaurant and will be the last. over priced (for fried food) but the biggest problem is that they water down their drinks. they claim they serve 2 ounces of alcohol in each drink...this is a lie (embuste). very sorry to say it is NOT WORTH THE MONEY!"

  • "Came here because my friends love this place and I don't blame them! The food is delicious, specially their Mofongo. Also the service is great. Definitely will be back soon. "

  • "Amazing food as always - however, very loud and packed."

  • "Great food, great service! It was a little loud, but not bad. They also have free valet parking, which is a major plus!"

  • "If you're up for trying something new, this is a cool spot to check out. Nice food and unique if you haven't had said cuisine before. Red Snapper dish was delicious, and the special margarita is big enough to last the whole meal and more! Nice mofongo and great seafood options. Service was enthusiastic but some of the bussing staff does not speak english, and this resulted in my request to take remnants of an appetizer home ending up with it taken away and most likely thrown away. And the waiters are busy (there aren't enough of them when it's busy) so they can be hard to flag down, but are super nice when they come by. Will be back!"

  • "The food was out of this world!! I highly recommend the seafood paella - it is CHOCK full of lobster and other goodies.. I will be back ! :)"

  • "The paella for two served in plantain bowls is not only spectacular to the eye but deliciously filled with huge shrimps, calamari and lobster pieces. And the coquitini was also both visually and tastebud appealing. We also enjoyed reading about the story behind the name and have already recommended this to friends."

  • "I've been living a year away from my Island of Enchantment, this is the closest encounter I have to her! Bacalaitos like Loiza, alcapurrias like Luquillo, empanadillas de jueyes like the West Coast and all the good stuff in between. Although their staff is latin, not entirely Puertorican, they respect and acknowledge the deliciousness of our cuisine. It's a little pricy, but who can put a price on the tastes' of your childhood? Excellent ambiance and decor and very attentive staff (keeping the mayoketchup and cubalibre with Don Q coming)! This is my third visit and it, definetively, won't be my last :)"

  • "I was excited when I found out about this place on Phantom Gourmet a year ago. A restaurant that serves authentic Puerto Rican cuisine is a rare find in Boston. The food was great. Parking in the area is really hard to find, but thankfully they offer complimentary valet. I have only 2 suggestions: (1) They should have more than just one valet attendant during peak hours; and (2) They should make the space bigger or find another location that can comfortably sit all guests and minimize wait time. The place is pretty small, so it can feel a bit congested. I definitely lan to go to Vejigante at least once or twice a year. A+"

  • "I tried this place for lunch because of a Groupon and went back for dinner with friends on Saturday. The food and service were great. The staff tried really hard to accommodate another party that had more people than expected show up. It was refreshing to see good customer service. "

  • "The food at Vejigante was excellent--our party of four ordered several appetizers, different entrees, and three different desserts. Everyone raved about the food. And the Sangria! Wow! Our only issue was the service-- our waiter had a large party and he paid more attention to that table than ours; we had to flag him or other waitstaff down several times to place our (re)orders throughout the meal. When we wasn't waiting on the other table, he was often just standing near the large party in anticipation of their needs--maybe he was inexperienced with managing multiple tables, but the lack of attention was inexcusable. "

  • "My husband and I wanted to have a fun yet low key night in Boston and this restaurant was the perfect find. It's a small restaurant with a great vibe. The masks on the walls create a great ambiance. The restaurant was packed with people but it didn't feel cramped. Our waitress was great, attentive but not overbearing. We both had traditional mojitos which were just ok but the food was delicious. The free valet parking was an added bonus. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for great Puerto Rican food. This is a good place for groups, couples and families. "

  • "There wasn't anything notable about the place except for the fact that it was Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine. My meal was pretty good but my gf plate was so salty and full of garlic she couldn't eat it! On the plus side, the service was good."

  • "Ambiance was wonderful with the colors, decor and music. Seating was to close together for my taste. Our server was swift and knowledgeable. Alcapurrias hands down were the best I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. The Meat to Masa ratio was on point and flavor was perfect. Props to the Chef!! I would travel 30 minutes to come eat these fritters any day. Dinner was ok. Regular rice n beans and fried chicken. Very ordinary. Mofongo was bland and oily and nothing special about the lobster other than it was grilled. A decent selection of drinks to choose from, next time I think I’d be better off sitting at the bar and having drinks and apps.  "

  • "It's always great when you go to a restaurant that serves ethnic/regional food and most of the customers are from that ethnicity/region -- you can be more certain that the food is authentic. That's the case with Vejigantes. This was our first time there, and everything was wonderful: the food (especially the Mofongo!), the drinks (mmmmm Margaritas), service, and atmosphere. Will definitely return!"

  • "the food and drinks both terrific. Server was lovely and so helpful. Prices quite reasonable. It is a small restaurant so get a reservation. We didn't like the table they had set for us so they changed it for us. I can't wait to go back."

  • "This was my second time to Vejigante. I love this place and highly recommend. We have gotten the paella for two both times and have never been disappointed. Their drinks are tasty too."

  • "Vejigantes was a pleasure to visit. Authentic Latino Caribbean cuisine with complimentary decor and ideal site within the Puerto Rican community. I'd go again."

  • "A lively neighborhood place with a huge menu of Puerto Rican specialities, Vejigantes is a gem. With so many choices everyone from vegetarian to carnivore will find something good. The dining room is comfortable for families or large groups but couples will not feel crowded out either. Casual, enthusiastic service. Good value for money"

  • "Definitely not for large groups there where 10 of us crammed into a corner drinks and entrees all came out sporadically , appetizers were very tasty but greasy my entree was mofongo with shrimp al ajillo wow very heavy handed on the garlic which over powered everything mofongo was very dry , definitely overpriced and portions were smaller than expected , we all loved e hot sauce which they make in house and you can purchase there music was great , unfortunately will not be returning"

  • "The ambience of the restaurant was great, very cozy. Service was only so so. The server was very unfriendly and unhelpful. Food was generally good, but tended to be salty."

  • "We had arrived a little early and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was very nice. My husband's mojito was a bit light. For apps, we had plantain chips and guac and the 3 ceviches. The chips were pretty blend but the guac and salsa were delish as well as the 3 different ceviches. For entrees, my husband had one of the casseroles which was good as for me I had the Valenciana paella. Very disappointing: there was no saffron, the rice was too oily and there was way too much salt. The chorizo was excellent and there was plenty of chicken but that's all the good news about that dish. Thank God for the Margarita Bravas. They helped with the disappointment. We might go back to give it one more try. Maybe paella is not one of their specialties"

  • "Instead of the same old Sushi and Italian, visit Puerto Rico right in Boston and enjoy the sights, smells and vibe at Vejigantes!"

  • "The food was fantastic but the other diners were a little too close. I felt like they could hear my entire conversation, although, it wasn't just due to them being too close, there was this repeated beeping through the music that sounded like the emergency notice on the tv."

  • "I brought my girlfriend to this place because we both want to know if food there is as good as these in Puerto Rico since my girlfriend is from Puerto Rico. It was delicious despite the high price."

  • "The atmosphere is nice, a great Puerto Rican Vibe. Great drinks. Alcapurrias appetizer was tasty. I ate there a while back, but I remember the dish I had was cooked with garlic, and there was way too much for my taste (and I like garlic - it's just that's all I could taste), and the manioc was plentiful but not particularly tasty. Dessert was better, the tres leches was delicious. Our server was terrific - very friendly and helpful!"

  • "I am from Puerto Rico and I know and enjoy our cuisine. I've been living in the States for 14 years now and I've found it very difficult to get authentic Puerto Rican food in a nice environment. Vejigantes is it! I'm so happy we found this great place! Love the food! I go crazy just by reading the menu... Great selection, real Puerto Rican flavor, good service and ambience... Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We came here for a late Valetines Day dinner, after doing some research I came upon this restaurant and figured we'd try something different, my boyfriend who is puertorican said that that was the best authentic puertorican food he's ever had. Everything about it was on point. From the drinks, app, dinner dessert. The absolute best food I've ever hard and I am very picky. This is our new go to place. Mind you we drove about an hour to try this restaurant in a snow storm and we don't regret it at all. Our waitress I believe her name was Angelica was extremely attentive, never felt so catered to at a restaurant. If I would have known they had valet parking I would have taken advantage, besides that nothing bad to say."

  • "We went here for my sister's birthday on a Saturday night. The four of us waited 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated but the hostess had called. We got three apps once we were seated in the busy dining room. We had the beef and crab empanadas as well as the bacalitas. We also got a pitcher of guava sangria which was tasty. We were pleased with our meals which included steak, mofongo with chicken and the snapper and shrimp dish. I told the waiter it was my sisters birthday and we were expecting a little cake and candle like we saw at two other tables but all we got was a luke warm "Happy Birthday". We decided to forgo dessert because they did not have Tres Leches, maybe that's why she didn't get a little birthday hooplah."
