Diner Reviews
  • "Ambiance was wonderful with the colors, decor and music. Seating was to close together for my taste. Our server was swift and knowledgeable. Alcapurrias hands down were the best I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. The Meat to Masa ratio was on point and flavor was perfect. Props to the Chef!! I would travel 30 minutes to come eat these fritters any day. Dinner was ok. Regular rice n beans and fried chicken. Very ordinary. Mofongo was bland and oily and nothing special about the lobster other than it was grilled. A decent selection of drinks to choose from, next time I think I’d be better off sitting at the bar and having drinks and apps.  "

  • "It's always great when you go to a restaurant that serves ethnic/regional food and most of the customers are from that ethnicity/region -- you can be more certain that the food is authentic. That's the case with Vejigantes. This was our first time there, and everything was wonderful: the food (especially the Mofongo!), the drinks (mmmmm Margaritas), service, and atmosphere. Will definitely return!"

  • "the food and drinks both terrific. Server was lovely and so helpful. Prices quite reasonable. It is a small restaurant so get a reservation. We didn't like the table they had set for us so they changed it for us. I can't wait to go back."

  • "This was my second time to Vejigante. I love this place and highly recommend. We have gotten the paella for two both times and have never been disappointed. Their drinks are tasty too."

  • "Vejigantes was a pleasure to visit. Authentic Latino Caribbean cuisine with complimentary decor and ideal site within the Puerto Rican community. I'd go again."

  • "A lively neighborhood place with a huge menu of Puerto Rican specialities, Vejigantes is a gem. With so many choices everyone from vegetarian to carnivore will find something good. The dining room is comfortable for families or large groups but couples will not feel crowded out either. Casual, enthusiastic service. Good value for money"

  • "Definitely not for large groups there where 10 of us crammed into a corner drinks and entrees all came out sporadically , appetizers were very tasty but greasy my entree was mofongo with shrimp al ajillo wow very heavy handed on the garlic which over powered everything mofongo was very dry , definitely overpriced and portions were smaller than expected , we all loved e hot sauce which they make in house and you can purchase there music was great , unfortunately will not be returning"

  • "The ambience of the restaurant was great, very cozy. Service was only so so. The server was very unfriendly and unhelpful. Food was generally good, but tended to be salty."

  • "We had arrived a little early and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was very nice. My husband's mojito was a bit light. For apps, we had plantain chips and guac and the 3 ceviches. The chips were pretty blend but the guac and salsa were delish as well as the 3 different ceviches. For entrees, my husband had one of the casseroles which was good as for me I had the Valenciana paella. Very disappointing: there was no saffron, the rice was too oily and there was way too much salt. The chorizo was excellent and there was plenty of chicken but that's all the good news about that dish. Thank God for the Margarita Bravas. They helped with the disappointment. We might go back to give it one more try. Maybe paella is not one of their specialties"

  • "We had a wonderful time at Vejigante. The food and drinks were very good. It reminds us of our trip to Puerto Rico last year. We can not to take our friends next time!"

  • "Instead of the same old Sushi and Italian, visit Puerto Rico right in Boston and enjoy the sights, smells and vibe at Vejigantes!"

  • "The food was fantastic but the other diners were a little too close. I felt like they could hear my entire conversation, although, it wasn't just due to them being too close, there was this repeated beeping through the music that sounded like the emergency notice on the tv."

  • "It helps to be in a party mood when you eat here, especially on a weekend night. The place is loud, especially when the staff sings happy birthday. Portions are huge, but the flavors are great, too. The staff was attentive - actually too much so. We felt rushed, since our main courses arrived while we were still eating our appetizers."

  • "We came here for a late Valetines Day dinner, after doing some research I came upon this restaurant and figured we'd try something different, my boyfriend who is puertorican said that that was the best authentic puertorican food he's ever had. Everything about it was on point. From the drinks, app, dinner dessert. The absolute best food I've ever hard and I am very picky. This is our new go to place. Mind you we drove about an hour to try this restaurant in a snow storm and we don't regret it at all. Our waitress I believe her name was Angelica was extremely attentive, never felt so catered to at a restaurant. If I would have known they had valet parking I would have taken advantage, besides that nothing bad to say."

  • "I am from Puerto Rico and I know and enjoy our cuisine. I've been living in the States for 14 years now and I've found it very difficult to get authentic Puerto Rican food in a nice environment. Vejigantes is it! I'm so happy we found this great place! Love the food! I go crazy just by reading the menu... Great selection, real Puerto Rican flavor, good service and ambience... Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We went here for my sister's birthday on a Saturday night. The four of us waited 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated but the hostess had called. We got three apps once we were seated in the busy dining room. We had the beef and crab empanadas as well as the bacalitas. We also got a pitcher of guava sangria which was tasty. We were pleased with our meals which included steak, mofongo with chicken and the snapper and shrimp dish. I told the waiter it was my sisters birthday and we were expecting a little cake and candle like we saw at two other tables but all we got was a luke warm "Happy Birthday". We decided to forgo dessert because they did not have Tres Leches, maybe that's why she didn't get a little birthday hooplah."

  • "This is a great alternative to the usual south end fare. The portions are large, the prices reasonable and the service is great. Many of the appetizers are fried, so watch out. I ordered 3 and wish I had gotten only one or 2 fried options. The ceviche was good, but a bit overpowering on the lime. The beef with chimichuri sauce was AMAZING! We also liked the lobster stew with the creole sauce and the piella. Also liked the mojitos. A great eve."

  • "Very fun and intimate setting. The ambience of the restaurant, and staff made me feel like I was in Puerto Rico the entire night!! The Appetizers are out of this world delicious!!! Each bite I took showed how much effort and pride goes into every item that is made in their kitchen!! Drinks are indicative of the Caribbean and had the taste buds of my wife and I overjoyed throughout the evening. The Mofongo is Amazing, the acapurria and rellenos de papa are to die for delicious!!! The food at vejigantes is so good that we went back the next night and ordered take out there!!! A Must Go!!! Leave the kids at Home!!"

  • "Pinchos too! I went there in December with my extended Brazilian family that included my Puerto Rican sister-in-law. I was the only gringo. We all thought the food was awesome. The Steaks with chimichurri were excellent, the mofongo as well. All the appetizers were a hit. The service was a bit slack, they did not provide the extra rice we ordered but they did charge us, however We would still definitely go back."

  • "If you know PR cuisine, then you'll really appreciate the food! The staff was very friendly and helpful! The margaritas & mojitos were great - the only issue is the facility is so small. Don't even try to get in without a reservation - you'll be waiting a while."

  • "The food was incredible. The skirt steak delish, the appetizers, bacalaitos fritos (cod fritter) and alcapurrias (beef filled fritter) were awesome. The service was "exceptional" and thanks to my pal who is fluent in Puerto Rican cuisine, culture and fluent in Spanish. My only gripe was the table we were given (it was my first time there).. It was right next to kitchen and a little squished as other diners were right next.. If i go back though, I will ask for different table, because it was not very comfortable."

  • "I made reservation for my mother's birthday. The waitress (Yohana) was so nice and I was very pleased with her service. The food was great. I had mofongo and it was delicious. I had requested that they bring out a dessert and sing happy birthday to my mom and she loved it. The dessert was tres leches and it was to die for! It is a more intimite setting so I don't suggest bringing kids. The table next to us had a few and it was a little distracting. But overall it was a great experience!"

  • "I’m from Puerto Rico so it’s been difficult to find a nice place that serves puertorican food. I thought the food was amazing for the price. The atmosphere was inviting and energetic and the servers were attentive. I will defiantly recommend to friends and go again."

  • "As a first time visitor to Boston, this was a fabulous find for a married couple "date night". We enjoyed the experience so much that we brought a large group of friends for dinner two nights later."

  • "We love this place! The food is delicious, the service friendly and the space welcoming. Paellas are high on my list there, but everything we tried is good. The "hot" sauce our waiter brought us to try did have a kick, but not too much and brought some interesting flavors to our respective dish. Wine prices are reasonable and the sangria delicious!"

  • "We went here for my friend's bachelorette party and had a fantastic time! Noise level was good. We had a great table and the food was delicious! They even brought out a flaming dessert and sang to her! Price point is wonderful too! Dinner for seven for $300 with lots of food and drinks. Portion sizes were large, I would encourage sharing!"

  • "We went again and had a wonderful meal. the steak with chimichuri sauce was excellent and a very good price. also got lobster in creole sauce which was delicious (much better than the lobster tail and shrimp in garlic which was very salty). the ceviche was swimming in lime juice which was just a bit too much to enjoy the fish. The drinks were great and the service was very friendly and attentive. A great option for something different in the south end."

  • "I like this place for something a bit different. The ceviche was quite good, as were the mojitos. One of our dishes was way too salty (the garlic shrimp and lobster over cassava), but the paella was very good. Service was very pleasant and attentive,"
