We went to Vejigante with friends a few nights ago and absolutely loved it. Usually we go to the restaurants on Tremont (which are great!), but decided to branch out a bit. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and totally different from anywhere else we'd been. And it was a great value!

I absolutely LOOVE this place! The food, as in every dish, is so delicious and authentic. The drinks are also delicious!! And, the staff is so kind and friendly! PLUS, they had a guy playing the guitar and singing a bunch of Spanish songs. And, for your birthday, they sing this really fun version of Happy Birthday in Spanish and put a sparkler candle on a cake. TOO FUN!!

Vejigantes food was flavorful but a little cold . Waitress was amazing, she was quick, helpful and fun. Music was great after 8:30 but a bit too loud through the speakers. We might have been sitting next to a speaker. Dessert was amazing. We ordered a chocolate cake type dessert and it was phenomenal. Having just gotten back from Puerto Rico - I found Vejigantes extremely authentic and fun. I will most like the returning for my birthday dinner.

Appetizer dishes were still on the table when the entrees came. Spacing between the two courses was far too close. My wifes dish was cold and clearly congealed. Server promised a new order, but clearly returned with the same dish after a few minutes in the microwave. Staff were very unfriendly

The food was great and had quite a bit of variety. It was authentic and properly cooked. It was our best experience with Puerto Rican food in the US mainland. Service was a bit slow. There was no enough wait staff to help the number of occupied tables efficiently although they werte charming and worked hard. We tried conch salad, grilled dorado(Mahi) and the masitas de cerdo were properly prepared and delicious. On our next visit to Boston, we wopuld again check out this neighborhood gem.

I wanted to be "catty" about it... BAH! I had to GROW up and put my cattiness in the bag, and suck up the fact that I FOUND A PIECE OF HOME in Boston! FINALLY! MOFONGO, better than what I had at "Mi Casita" on the Isla Verde beach strip on the Island. "Arañitas" - huge, crispy and served with the homey "mayoketchup". Dainty empanadas... and the pork in my "media noche"? You would have thought it came out of MY kitchen... Legit, and authentic. Can't wait to come back for a fix!

Great place for Puerto Rican food. I've had mofongo at 6-8 restaurants in Puerto Rico and this is on par w/ the very best. This was my first experience with guava sangria and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. Prices were reasonable. My girlfriend had the bistec and said it was good. Portions are pretty big, so you'll probably need a to-go box if you're interested in dessert.

This was our 2nd time dining at Vejigate and we were happy we gave it a 2nd chance. Our first dining experience there was fine; food was good but service was rather slow and lackluster, but we purchased a certificate from Gilt and decided to try again. Our server was fantastic and fun. He recommended some great drinks and dishes for us and our daughters to try. I got the eggplant stew with mofongo, and he made sure to ask if I wanted the mofongo with no meat, which being a vegetarian I appreciated very much! My husband loved the sweet plantains and his passion fruit drink, and the girls liked their dishes as well, but again, our server was for sure the highlight of the evening. Well done!

I am so glad we found this place, across the street from Villa Victoria in the South End. The menu was filled with dishes I had never tried or even heard of. Notable was the mofongo, a tower of baked mashed plantain and roast pork. Our entrees - one chicken, one steak, were beautifully seasoned and prepared, and the cheese flan was sensational. Friendly, warm service, a comfortable room and very reasonable pricing make Vejigante an excellent choice for a fun evening.

If you're up for trying something new, this is a cool spot to check out. Nice food and unique if you haven't had said cuisine before. Red Snapper dish was delicious, and the special margarita is big enough to last the whole meal and more! Nice mofongo and great seafood options. Service was enthusiastic but some of the bussing staff does not speak english, and this resulted in my request to take remnants of an appetizer home ending up with it taken away and most likely thrown away. And the waiters are busy (there aren't enough of them when it's busy) so they can be hard to flag down, but are super nice when they come by. Will be back!

The paella for two served in plantain bowls is not only spectacular to the eye but deliciously filled with huge shrimps, calamari and lobster pieces. And the coquitini was also both visually and tastebud appealing. We also enjoyed reading about the story behind the name and have already recommended this to friends.

I've been living a year away from my Island of Enchantment, this is the closest encounter I have to her! Bacalaitos like Loiza, alcapurrias like Luquillo, empanadillas de jueyes like the West Coast and all the good stuff in between. Although their staff is latin, not entirely Puertorican, they respect and acknowledge the deliciousness of our cuisine. It's a little pricy, but who can put a price on the tastes' of your childhood? Excellent ambiance and decor and very attentive staff (keeping the mayoketchup and cubalibre with Don Q coming)! This is my third visit and it, definetively, won't be my last :)

I was excited when I found out about this place on Phantom Gourmet a year ago. A restaurant that serves authentic Puerto Rican cuisine is a rare find in Boston. The food was great. Parking in the area is really hard to find, but thankfully they offer complimentary valet. I have only 2 suggestions: (1) They should have more than just one valet attendant during peak hours; and (2) They should make the space bigger or find another location that can comfortably sit all guests and minimize wait time. The place is pretty small, so it can feel a bit congested. I definitely lan to go to Vejigante at least once or twice a year. A+

The food at Vejigante was excellent--our party of four ordered several appetizers, different entrees, and three different desserts. Everyone raved about the food. And the Sangria! Wow! Our only issue was the service-- our waiter had a large party and he paid more attention to that table than ours; we had to flag him or other waitstaff down several times to place our (re)orders throughout the meal. When we wasn't waiting on the other table, he was often just standing near the large party in anticipation of their needs--maybe he was inexperienced with managing multiple tables, but the lack of attention was inexcusable.

My husband and I wanted to have a fun yet low key night in Boston and this restaurant was the perfect find. It's a small restaurant with a great vibe. The masks on the walls create a great ambiance. The restaurant was packed with people but it didn't feel cramped. Our waitress was great, attentive but not overbearing. We both had traditional mojitos which were just ok but the food was delicious. The free valet parking was an added bonus. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for great Puerto Rican food. This is a good place for groups, couples and families.

Ambiance was wonderful with the colors, decor and music. Seating was to close together for my taste. Our server was swift and knowledgeable. Alcapurrias hands down were the best I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. The Meat to Masa ratio was on point and flavor was perfect. Props to the Chef!! I would travel 30 minutes to come eat these fritters any day. Dinner was ok. Regular rice n beans and fried chicken. Very ordinary. Mofongo was bland and oily and nothing special about the lobster other than it was grilled. A decent selection of drinks to choose from, next time I think I’d be better off sitting at the bar and having drinks and apps.

It's always great when you go to a restaurant that serves ethnic/regional food and most of the customers are from that ethnicity/region -- you can be more certain that the food is authentic. That's the case with Vejigantes. This was our first time there, and everything was wonderful: the food (especially the Mofongo!), the drinks (mmmmm Margaritas), service, and atmosphere.
