VedgeBeen waiting my whole lifeBeen waiting my whole life for a restaurant like this!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGourmet vegan fare. Our first time to eat here and what a wonderful experience. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. Having never eaten a vegan meal I will have to say it was outstanding. The lack of meat was not missed because some of the flavors really mimicked it. How they pull off all the taste is amazing. Their cheesecake was the best I have ever had. We would highly recommend for vegans and everyone else.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place! Our second experience at Vedge. WONDERFUL! We took my boyfriend's mom for mother's day and she was absolutely thrilled! The food was outstanding as well as the service. This place nevers ceases to amaze me.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulThe food and service were wonderful (as usual). I can't say enough great things about the culinary artistry at Vedge. I go every chance I get. My non-vegan friends love it too.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFitting name for a vegetarain restWe dined at Vedge last Friday, May 10. The sever was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was great and it was amazing that vegetarian cuisine can be so interesting and with a wide array of varieties.
The only thing that I wish for improvement is the noise level. Apparently, the bar area was crowded with many congregating around it and they were LOUD! The audio insulation isn't that great with the bare walls and ceiling just bounced back their raucous voices. I could not hear what my wife said across our small table.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA revelationThe seitan was the best vegan dish I've ever had. Great atmosphere! I preordered their new book. Could only get a 9:30 reservation but was worth it. Thanks!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique findVedge is a dining experience like no other! The food is unique, great tasting, and always fabulous.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMI've had the pleasure of workingI've had the pleasure of working for many months in the Philadelphia area, and wanted to try as many restaurants and chefs as possible. I enjoyed Vedge so much that I had to go back with family so they could experience it as well. If I could eat like this daily, I would consider becoming Vegan!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a Vegan Adventure! The best vegan restaurant I have ever eaten in...Very inventive and delicious food..Excellent wine selection and lovely setting...
Even if you aren't a vegan, this place makes you think wistfully about becoming one!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEndless Choices for a Vegan!I'm a vegan and went with my non-vegetarian husband and non-vegetarian friends (another couple). Everything was absolutely delicious and the non-vegetarians enjoyed it as much as I did! This was my second time there and I will definitely be going back.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMVedge shinesVedge lived up to expectations, and went beyond. Everything was delicious and unexpectedly unique.
Absolute favorites were the radishes, cauliflower soup and cheesecake with basil and olives.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing vegan food!As a very long-time vegetarian and former vegan, what an exciting find of a restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious, and it's easy to get lots of different things to try, since everything is small plates (but each is enough for at least two to have a good-sized portion). The brussels sprouts and the potatoes were particularly memorable, but there wasn't a single dish that we didn't enjoy.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievableWe've been vegan for just a year now, and we are generally pretty happy with the food we cook at home. Vedge is an entirely different level of beauty, sophistication, and execution. Their deserts... there is NO WAY they are vegan, but of course, they are. The oatmeal ice cream rivaled the Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal ice cream, which is my FAVORITE. The Cheesecake, melts in your mouth. Great spot for our 15 year anniversary.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAll around good experienceWe had a wonderful experience. The service was top of the line and the food was incredibly tasty. Portions are small, but we were warned of that.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA singular achievment, thereA singular achievment, there is nothing on the market like this place. Vedge takes vegetarian/vegan cuisine to places it has never been.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMStellarFood was creative; service great; drinks superb! We are vegetarian, but everyone would enjoy this restaurant.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food far exceeded expectionsThe food far exceeded expections both in appearance and taste; delicious food presented masterfully, and the service was great. Our waitress was extremely helpful and attentive. This restaurant also has a great atmosphere- plan to return soon!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food I ever had!Amazing dishes, well-balanced. I will definitely be back!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of the Best!Vedge never disappoints; each dish is prepared with such thought and care that it is simply delicious. We loved the seitan, tofu, maitake mushroom, fingerling fries, and for dessert the 'chocolate uber chunk' was out of this world. We were especially grateful for the superior service. My dining companion followed a kosher diet and the waitress was so knowledgeable that she steered her clear of dishes that were cooked with nonkosher wine! I was so impressed and appreciative. This restaurant is truly the best of the best.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFood with a peel has great appealWe're not vegetarian, but we're not new to it. When a chef's tasting menu is limited to veg or non-veg options (e.g. Charlie Trotter's), we always order one of each & try everything. Vedge deserves its great reputation - everything is clever, beautiful & delicious. We had the appetizer board, beet & avocado, portabella carpaccio, eggplant & cauliflower braciole, roasted mushroom w/celery root fritter & a few vegetable sides (ramp hummus - wow!), then coconut cake with Scotch bonnet ice cream that was so good I had a 2nd one. The sommelier & wine list are wonderful too, with some truly cool stuff you won't find on your own (e.g. Rouletabulle, Rossese di Dolceacqua). Great staff, roomy seating, a little noisy but who cares? We'll be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSimple, excellent foodOne of my favorite restaurants in Philly--it never disappoints. Flavors are rich and surprising. Will never tire of the portabello carpaccio and the brussel sprouts. Great drinks, too; am not a real gin drinker, but love the Elder Sage.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNo need to say much. ThisNo need to say much. This was our first of what should be many visits. It was perfect!!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely great dining experience,Absolutely great dining experience, food was fantastic!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy, but rushedWe ate at Vedge this week for the second time. It was early because we were going to a concert at 8pm. The food both times was fabulous, innovative, delicious, and we loved it. The space is lovely, not crowded. They've done an wonderful job of combining a couple of brownstones, kept the old world feel and created an uncrowded not too noisy artistic environment for tasting veggies like we've never had veggies before. My only criticism would be that this time we felt rushed, we were grabbing our food from the plates as the wait staff were removing them. We asked them to wait which they did, but the next course came before we were really ready. This didn't happen at the later dining time on our first visit.Must have needed to turn the table4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything I've read aboutEverything I've read about Vedge is true. Despite verging on vegetarianism myself, who knew vegetables could be made so exceptionally and creatively delicious.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was exquisite. WeThe food was exquisite. We especially liked the cauliflower.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent and creative food,Excellent and creative food, no complaints! But be prepared to order a bit more than you usually would to feel full, since it is vegan.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWE loved it. We are vegetariansWE loved it. We are vegetarians but I believe anyone who loves fine food would love Vedge. Perfect in every way!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMVedge is always amazing andVedge is always amazing and this visit was no exception. Wonderful, inventive, delightful cuisine.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing - again! Each time I come to Philadelphia I make it a point to dine at Vedge and each time they continue to amaze me. The indescribably delicious preparations of the most simple ingredients are surprising - highly spiced and roasted cauliflower like you've never had it before and the ramp flatbread that I couldn't get enough of are two examples.
The staff is friendly and accommodating, they don't mind taking their time to describe a dish and I appreciate when staff are not afraid to make a recommendation as well.
This is a vegan restaurant for vegans and omnivores alike - I am not vegan but appreciate the added benefit of a healthy meal in addition to being delicious.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic restaurant! TheFantastic restaurant! The food is beautiful presented, the favors are so adventurous....couldn't recommend more. Went with a true carnivore and her comment was, "excellent!"4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved our evening at Vedge. We loved our evening at Vedge. We were celebrating two birthdays and an owner, Kate Jacoby, gave us so much wonderful attention. She is terrific, as was our server Dana. Fabulous food and a delightful Saturday night!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid restaurant, excellentSolid restaurant, excellent vegetarian, tapas style meals...Would go again but not quite worth the hype nor the 6-8 week wait on the reservation list...4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWho knew vegetables couldWho knew vegetables could taste so good? Even a meat lover can appreciate the menu here!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI went with 4 guys who wereI went with 4 guys who were unsure if they would like the food. After trying to carpaccio portobello, they all knew they loved the food. I am both a foodie and clean eater, and I am really impressed with Vedge.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff at vedge went outThe staff at vedge went out of the way to accommodate my flight delay--they pre-ordered my meal and they were extremely attentive throughout dinner. The food was also fantastic: it's amazing what they can do to vegetables! Definitely recommend this restaurant.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, Not GreatTook about 15 minutes after our reservation to get seated, but the hostess kept us informed about the delay the whole time. The meal was good- just not as spectacular as we had been expecting. Everything was tasty, but for some reason not 'Wow' as we had figured it would be. The food at it's previous incarnation (Horizons) was just that- incredible. The desserts were the highlight of our meal- and neither of us are big people. Happy to see that the restaurant has truly taken off in its new location, and they did a wonderful job with the space, but probably won't rush back to dine there. We ate the next night at another newish popular foodie restaurant and the food WAS superb along with everything else. Vedge kinda left us lacking.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBest vegan restaurant on east coastAs always our experience at Vedge was great!
The food was good and we always enjoy coming.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food, Service and SceneryAbsolutely Fantastic! I came here with my Vegan girlfriend and she was thrilled to order anything she wanted off the menu. The dining is tapas style, and the waiter recommended 3-5 "main entrees" to split between the two of us. We ended up getting 5 entrees and 3 appetizers and dessert. We were quite filled. This allowed our bill to add up quite quickly but all of the items were memorable and worth every penny! The atmosphere was a little busy due to the bustling bar in front, but our dining room was relatively quiet and had a nice view overlooking the street. Wait staff was relaxed and highly personable.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server was incrediblyOur server was incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of our food. We even let him pick our dessert- and we were not disappointed. The Cab-franc was a treat and the whole evening was lovely.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fantastic. SmallThe food was fantastic. Small plates with three to four plates per person. I could of had a big plate of two of the dishes and been content with a great meal. All the dishes we tried were excellent.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible food, as always!Incredible food, as always! Can't wait to dine here again.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a total find. FoodThis was a total find. Food was scrumptious and we left VERY satisfied. We will definitely be back! We've already recommended it to several of our friends.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMVedge was a truly amazingVedge was a truly amazing experience! The food was specular. We had the portabello caparcio, humus, sweet potato pate and olives. The flavors are so satisfying that I immediately forgot it was vegan. We ended with the pana cota which was also terrific.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBest experience in PhillyTHE absolute BEST restaurant in Philly. Hands down!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I went to VedgeMy wife and I went to Vedge with high expectations and they did not dissapoint. The food is fantastic! I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Vegans and carnivors alike. You will not find food like this anywhere. Can't wait to get back.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat and unique flavors fromGreat and unique flavors from all dishes. A lot of the time vegetarian food come off tasting like stir-fry but not here. Size could be larger but not a deal breaker.
FYI - I'm not a vegetarian of any sort.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Dining room couldGreat food. Dining room could use some work to dampen the noise. Not possible to have a real conversation--and isn't that part of the point of sharing food? Wait staff extremely helpful, but service erratic. Eating one dish and needing to push it aside to find room for two more, then waiting 20 minutes with nothing. With six dishes for two people and two happy-hour beers, we left a bit hungry (we are not big eaters and typically eat vegan) and with 90 dollars less in our pockets. Not our first time at Vedge, but probably won't go for a while. Seems stressful rather than relaxing.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been a vegetarian allI have been a vegetarian all my life and was very pleased with the food at Vedge. The flavors were well developed and well presented. We were 4 girlfriends who went for a pre-theatre dinner and our waitress made sure that she spaced the food out so that we weren't rushed, but also made it to the Merriam Theater (2 blocks away!) on time. Highly recommend the kimchi soup. Drinks were yum - try the grapefruit cocktail. Did not stay for dessert. Will definitely go back to try everything else!
If you are looking for vegetarian recipes, buy my cookbook "Savor the World" by Niti Sanghrajka4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was fantastic. WhileThis was fantastic. While this place should be a mecca for all vegetarians, I never once missed meat in any of the dishes. Its particularly exciting to me that they didn't try to impersonate meat. The vegetables were presented in flavorful and innovative ways that I was honestly skeptical of until the first bite. Be prepared to share...that's half the fun of this kind of experience.
Dishes not to miss: Sweet Potato Pate, Hearts of Palm Cioppino, Salt Roasted Beets, and the Eggplant and Cauliflower Braciole.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
