A word from Vallozzi's Pittsburgh
Family owned and operated for over 50 years, following in the footsteps of Vallozzi's Classic Restaurant in Greensburg, PA. We use fresh, quality ingredients, as well as Italian meats cheeses flown in from Italy every week. Our wine list is extensive, with many wines available by the glass and by the bottle. We can host your intimate date, family dinner, business meetings, or larger parties in our banquet room. Or come enjoy a specially made cocktail in our bar area and a small bite.

Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh.

The jamming music says it is a sports bar (pink Floyd, Pear Jam). The super high prices says its wine selections are too good for you. Service was just what you would expect polite and on the ball. We were there on a Friday night at 7pm and it was almost empty."

  • "We couldn't put our finger on why, but we were really eager to finish up and pay. Our server was nice enough and the food was really totally incredible. (We did the Parmesan and balsamic fries, a side, as an appetizer; both of us did the ricotta ravioli as an entree and split a side of meatballs.) We loved our food, but just felt uncomfortable the entire time. Was it the odd, low lighting? The muted, melancholy colors? Don't know - don't care. Eat up front or outdoors if you can. Otherwise, get it to go! We went up the street to a bakery for dessert to escape...."

  • "My friend and I refused to order wine, because we were under 21. From then on, the waiter (Eric) was horrible to us. He started to push things on us - "iced tea or sugar water" - in a condescending manner and treated us as if we couldn't afford the meal the entire time. When I explained I didn't eat much, he made fun of me. At the end, when we had finished, he sarcastically asked if we wanted to pack up the sauce left on our plates. It, coupled with the extremely long wait time for everything, was quite literally the most uncomfortable dining experience of my life. We might have been able to pay for the meal, but we only tipped 10%. Hopefully, that's the first and last time in my life service is so poor I have to do that."

  • "I'd love this spot, if it weren't for the prices. The food is good. Sometimes very good, and sometimes not. I always walk away feeling it's trying to be this hip, upscale spot....but it's simply good Italian food. I just wish I wasn't helping to pay for their fancy decorating by spending so much on a drink."

  • "Visited restaurant with my husband for lunch on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, the food ruined the experience of the lunch. We sat inside as all seats were filled outside which isn't a problem. However, my husband had to look at a brick wall (a majority of people have to do this based on their seating arrangement). The Pizza which is top rated (according to them) had a terrible, greasy crust that did not allow you to experience the sauce and cheese. My husband had the Salmon Salad -- The Salmon itself was not a choice cut (for the cost) and it was not even seasoned. Not an experience to remember nor try again!"

  • "We loved everything about our evening except for the food. The service and ambiance were terrific, but the meal was not really anything special. Good Mediterra bread with whipped ricotta and olive oil was a great way to start. The wine list was strong, and the wait staff were professional. The cheese sampler was okay, the ravioli home made, and the heirloom tomato sauce good. The standout was roasted cauliflower, surprisingly. I wish I could say we loved the entrees, but I can't. That said, I'd rather go to a well run, hospitable restaurant and have okay food, and walk out feeling like we had a nice evening, instead of stellar food with poor service. So, we'll return to Vallozzi's, but with slightly lowered expectations of the food."

  • "We walked up to the hosts, after they were done flirting with there manager i said hey.. we sat down, ordered our food and drinks with app. 30 minutes maybe 31 we got our drinks, then appetizers. 10 minutes later our food came, ok then we ordered a second round of drinks and aksed for more bread..... we were all done with our meals which were great and our drinks came with the checks. The place was 70% full so they werent busy.... our waiter asked us how our food was when he put it down... for four of us our bill was 234 dollars, fair if the service was on par but we will never go back unless the place gets new staff and a new manager.oh we still tipped 40 bux to the waiter because we are nice. no one ever apologized for the horrible timing"

Family style starters were good; waitress suggested a hydbrid of the heirloom tomato salad with buffalo mozzarella; came out well. Crudo was good; sea urchin portion difficult to share; better set on an edible base of some sort. Main courses were excellent; linguini with sea urchin and scallops wonderful rich flavor. Lobster risotto excellent."

The 'pick four' option was very compelling and offered a very diverse selection of choices. This was a business lunch and I can speak for the others in my party in saying that we all enjoyed our experience. On a less than satisfactory note: the wine pour was on the small side."
