Diner Reviews
  • "The food was great. Our guests from NYC thought it was good as well. We didn't feel rushed or bothered by our waitress. The only downside was how loud it was in the dining area. Overall, it was a great evening and would go back again."

  • "Overall very good. Would recommend that they put the veal chop back on menu; was looking forward to having it but was disappointed it was not available. Veal scallopini vas just okay. Bread pudding was excellent."

  • "From the start it was a wonderful meal. Appetizers and drinks in the bar to an awesome dinner in the dining area proved to be a great night out. Food and service did not disappoint!!"

  • "I had a business lunch at Vallozzi's, and it was very good."

  • "Six of us had a wonderful lunch. The food was excellent and came out quickly which enabled everyone to get back to work on time."

  • "Outstanding dining experience. We took another couple out to dinner, so wanted this to be an above-average experience, and it surely was. I wouldn't go here before a show or any if you had other time restrictions, as the wait times are long between courses. We didn't mind that though, as we enjoyed each item. I would highly recommend doing the meat/cheese tasting vs. picking your own appetizers. All meals/wines were outstanding. Service a bit slow, but we didn't mind it. Definitely will go back."

  • "Food was great but waiter needs to recognize that the business lunch crowd is sensitive to timing. Our bill arrived very late and then it took forever to complete the transaction and get the bill back to be signed."

  • "Great food, good service, it was more busy and crowded than I expected for a Thursday evening. But my party had a great time. Will be back there for sure"
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Food was mediocre, server tried to up-sell on every single thing we ordered... I understand that is how he makes tips, but give it a rest. I probably will not go back or recommend to a friend. There are much better rrestaurants for the same amount of money."

  • "Third time at Vallozzi's. Food has been very good every time. Love the spinach pizza, smoky flavor. Friends enjoyed the sausage pizza, chicken parmigiana sandwich and the salmon salad. Too full for dessert? Try the chocolates. The caramel one was wonderful. A little noisy in the middle of the room."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Vallozzi's is a perfect place for a business lunch, you are not sitting on top of the table next to you, so it's easy to have a private conversation with your guest."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Over all, one of the best indoor restaurants in Downtown Pittsburgh -- food, ambiance, service. Outdoor dining -- I'll give it a try."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "While this experience was ok, for the cost, there are several other downtown options that would be preferable. Several of their very expensive signature drinks were unavailable due to a lack of available liquors, which seemed quite odd. Additionally, the pasta was pricey and you didn't receive what I would consider a healthy portion. Lastly, it was quite loud and you felt like you were almost sitting on the person next to you. In all, it was a nice night out, but I would not go back."

  • "We really like the wide selection of dinners on the menu at various price points. We have dined here at least 6 times and have never been disappointed with our selections. From the crab cakes to the pastas, everything has been very good. Staff is very friendly and helpful, though at times seem to be spread a little thin. We were already discussing dinner choices for our next visit."

  • "The occasion was my wife's birthday. She loves Italian food so we went to Valozzi's and she had the Ricotta Ravioli and I had the Fillet. Both were superb and our waiter was more than excellent. Bravo!"

  • "The grilled artichoke and arugula appetizer was delicious as were the seafood risotto and veal saltimbacca. Food and service were outstanding. Very relaxing and enjoyable dining."

  • "Just had a business lunch here. The staff was very accommodating and the food was exceptional! Will definitely choose this as my "go to" biz lunch restaurant!"

  • "We came to Valozzi's for a dinner with an important customer. Our customer is California-based not far from Napa and was pleased that the extensive wine list included one of his favorites: The Prisoner. We paired the Chef's selection charcuterie and cheeses with the wine along with the polenta and some amazing veal entrees. The noise level was perfect for a business meeting, and the decor was both comfortable and classy."

  • "Our entrees were good. We were disappointed--the regular salad only had lettuce. My husband's ravoli was very good. My veal was tasty but not tender. Service was good--waitress did a good job--food was brought in a timely manner. We had plenty of time for the theater. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. We had a pleasant experience."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Vallozzi's and it was a perfect evening! The setting is contemporary and well done - I particularly liked the stone walls. It was quiet enough to talk comfortably. Our waiter, Brett, was excellent - just the right level of service to be helpful. He knew the menu very well and answered our questions as we tried to make decisions. We were both very pleased with our choices, the crabcakes and shrimp tagliatelli. The polenta appetizer was excellent! We were too full for dessert, but will try some the next time. We had a very relaxing meal and never felt rushed. I would definitely reccommend Vallozzi's for a special occasion. It is a bit pricey, but you get a lot of value for the money."

  • "If you know Vallozzi's from Greensburg, then you know this place is special. Finally Pittsburgh gets Vallozzi's! This place has some of the best menu items anywhere, and the taste is incredible. From the Prime steaks, to fresh fish, to any pasta or salad, it just doesn't get any better."

  • "Delicious dinner at Vallozzi's! Love the appetizers from the mozzarella bar. Had the smoked mozzarella with dried tomato and arugula salad and it was excellent! Highly recommend it."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Too much pork in all of the dishes- fewer pasta choices than one would expect in a fine Italian restaurant, but the food is good."

  • "My husband spent the night in Pittsburgh for his birthday. I found Vallozzi's on after searching on line and on Yelp for several days. I was not disappointed!!! The entire experience was fantastic from the food to the service. My only advice is to be aware of the seating arrangements. You are rather close to other patrons if seated along the wall and conversations are not very private."

  • "Elegant ambiance without it being too stuffy. Clothing is business casual. Staff is friendly and professional. Noise level is minimal because of the high ceilings which made it nice to be able to hear your conversations without hearing other tables. Bathrooms were clean and beautiful."

  • "I INVITED FRIENDS TO VALLOZZI'S AS A THANK YOU FOR KINDNESSES EXTENDED TO ME RECENTLY. MY SERVER WAS VERY MEDIOCRE BUT KIND. ANOTHER GENTLEMAN CAME IN TO ASSIST TOWARDS THE END OF THE MEAL AND WAS VERY HELPFUL. MEALS WERE MEDIOCRE AT BEST. THE INITIAL FRIED CHICKEN ENTREE BROUGHT TO MY QUEST WAS BURNED BUT WAS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER FRIED CHICKEN ENTREE THAT WAS MEDIOCRE AT BEST. MY VEAL SCALOPPINE ENTREE WAS OK. THE VEAL DID NOT MELT IN MY MOUTH AS I HAD HOPED BUT WAS RATHER CHEWY. THE ARTICHOKES IN THE DISH WERE FINE. THE ROASTED BEET SALAD HAD ONE SLICE OF BEET ONLY. MY FRIEND'S SUCKLING PIG ENTRE WAS "NOT VERY GOOD " , HER WORDS AFTER LEAVING. OUR COCKTAILS AND DESSERTS WERE DEFINITELY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENING."

  • "Vallozzi's is a fine restaurant, but not really a "knock your socks off" place, in spite of some prices that seem to aspire to that level. The fact that the tables are packed so tightly together in the main dining area is regrettable, but understandable given commercial constraints on most restaurants. Sadly, when the waiter for the next table decided to caper a bit (bowing/joking and laughing too loudly at innocuous quips), his rear end thrust itself into the space over our table. To quote my wife “It wouldn’t have been so bad if it had been a nice ass”, but it wasn’t. My steak was very good and my wife’s pasta good, but the dessert selections were uninspiring. Bread pudding, however good, is not the be-all and end-all of sweets."

  • "2 of my friends and I came here for a nice dinner out. Our server asked us if we were seeing a show, and we replied "no" - unfortunately, he must have understood that to mean that we would wait 45 minutes between each course. We were surrounded by tables who received their food and even had dessert and were out of there after we even received our meals (which we had them box up - we were over it after 3 hours!) The food that we did have was excellent, and the good news after all of that was that they did not charge us for anything, which was an extremely classy move. I have been here before and had great meals, and with the way they fixed the situation I will return."

  • "We dined before the Billy Joel concert last weekend. As we've come to expect, the service was wonderful. Our server was very friendly and warm, and made a great recommendation on wine, and described the dishes very well. The staff made sure we were relaxed and not rushed, but had plenty of time to walk up to the concert. We both had pasts dishes which were good and hearty, preceded by the parma salad which is bright, refreshing and delicious. We'll be back!"

  • "We ate at Vallozzi's for Valentine's Day dinner with a group of four. The food was outstanding! We each got something different and sampled some of the fresh mozz and each had salads and dessert. Everything was quality and tasty! We also had a wonderful waitress that was so attentive, even given the busy evening!"

  • "For the prices charges, this was one of the most unfortunate meals we've had in Pittsburgh. The food was adequate, but not exception. What ruined the evening was the service - in a word, awful. We waited 10+ minutes at the table before the waiter came over, waited another 10+ minutes for any service (bread, water), dirty plate on the table that was more or less shrugged off, had to remind the waiter about the glass of wine we ordered, then to top it off, he forgot to bring back what my wife asked to be boxed. Simply unacceptable. Busy won't cut it as an excused either - our reservation was for after 8 PM and the dinning room was at best 2/3rds full. We won't be returning and there is no way I'd ever bring a client there."
