A word from Vallozzi's Pittsburgh
Family owned and operated for over 50 years, following in the footsteps of Vallozzi's Classic Restaurant in Greensburg, PA. We use fresh, quality ingredients, as well as Italian meats cheeses flown in from Italy every week. Our wine list is extensive, with many wines available by the glass and by the bottle. We can host your intimate date, family dinner, business meetings, or larger parties in our banquet room. Or come enjoy a specially made cocktail in our bar area and a small bite.

Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh.

  • "We walked up to the hosts, after they were done flirting with there manager i said hey.. we sat down, ordered our food and drinks with app. 30 minutes maybe 31 we got our drinks, then appetizers. 10 minutes later our food came, ok then we ordered a second round of drinks and aksed for more bread..... we were all done with our meals which were great and our drinks came with the checks. The place was 70% full so they werent busy.... our waiter asked us how our food was when he put it down... for four of us our bill was 234 dollars, fair if the service was on par but we will never go back unless the place gets new staff and a new manager.oh we still tipped 40 bux to the waiter because we are nice. no one ever apologized for the horrible timing"

Family style starters were good; waitress suggested a hydbrid of the heirloom tomato salad with buffalo mozzarella; came out well. Crudo was good; sea urchin portion difficult to share; better set on an edible base of some sort. Main courses were excellent; linguini with sea urchin and scallops wonderful rich flavor. Lobster risotto excellent."

The 'pick four' option was very compelling and offered a very diverse selection of choices. This was a business lunch and I can speak for the others in my party in saying that we all enjoyed our experience. On a less than satisfactory note: the wine pour was on the small side."

  • "We were seated for 45 minutes and still had not received a scrap of bread. Water was slow in coming and drinks took another 15 minutes. We asked for a bread basket and were left with just a glass of water. We decided to leave after 45 minutes and no hope if seeing any food in the foreseeable future. Tables that were seated after us had drinks and bread."

I've tried a number of different items, from sandwiches to pizzas to entrees, and have thought all exceeded my expectations for quality at the restaurant's fair prices. They always get you in and out within an hour, which is obviously very important. The ambiance is outdated in the main room but the bar area is very nice. Service is really great, maybe the best around for lunch. Many people I've gone with we're going for the first time and all seemed to love it. I've never been for dinner, but I would expect much of the same."

  • "Just off market square Vallozzi's is conveniently located. Service and food is much better than the places in the square and the ambiance is very nice. Looks like they have 2 semi private rooms is you have a group of 30 or so. I had the bread pudding which was amazing albeit $8 for a dessert was a little pricey and the piece was HUGE and fed 2 of us. Reservations are a must at lunch time, I tried eating their twice before and was turned away. "

You do sit a bit close to other people at some tables but it wasn't too bothersome. Our meals were fantastic - I'll rave about that Seafood Risotto forever (not only was it tasty but it had great portions of seafood)! We agreed this makes it to our top 5 favorite restaraunts in the city and plan to go back!"

  • "Very nice restaurant. Very good food. Disappointng first experience though. Food service was exteremly slow (over 45 minutes to get served), they ran out of 2 of our meal selections, no complimentary bread served (in an Italian restaurant!!!). Only option was for biscuit - al a carte. Brunch deal included Bellini or Mimuso (alchohol), although two minors accompanied 2 adults, we were charged for soft drinks and we were not credited (or offerred) for their alchoholic drinks. The quality of the food was very, very good. Although, I thought the portions were small (for an Italian restaurant!) and in the end was was perceived as a resonable brunch deal ($25/p limited menu) ended up $153..."

  • "We had yet another wonderful experience. We ordered some charcuterie items, the house salad, pork chop, and the grits special. Our service and the meal were both very good. The special was not as hot (temperature) as we feel it should have been; it was only warm when it was served. It was thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless! We did not order dessert, but we did have coffee. We always enjoy a good cup of coffee after a nice meal. They have great coffee."

  • "We think about all the places we could go in downtown Pittsburgh these days, but almost always end up at Vallozzis. The bar is a great start. Try something from the fresh mozzarella bar...lots of choices and the staff will help. In the restarant they always seem to have an interesting special, and many great regular menu items. The dishes are regionally specific from Italy, and the staff can often tell you details about the region, and suggest wine pairings from that region. This really adds to the experience for me. "

  • "This is our work department's second trip there for lunch. Our server was very nice. The pace was very slow. I ordered the pick four- I ended up with a $3 misc food charge for a substitution so my bill was $18 plus tip and left hungry. That's unacceptable. And, the food tasted mediocre. The ambiance is nice, office people need to be in and out in an hour or an hour and 15 min max, the taste of the food needs to be enhanced and the quantity needs to be increased without the price being increased. I won't be back for a third trip. "

  • "I went here with some friends before a show at Heinz Hall; we made 5PM reservations and were still nearly late for an 8PM show across the street, the service was incredibly slow. Other than that, the food was pretty good; all of our salads were excellent and the friends who had the pasta raved that it was great- I ordered the salmon and it was so-so and a little dry, but on a return trip I'll be sure to order pasta instead. The wine list is pretty extensive, and all of our desserts were great. "
