A word from Vallozzi's Pittsburgh
Family owned and operated for over 50 years, following in the footsteps of Vallozzi's Classic Restaurant in Greensburg, PA. We use fresh, quality ingredients, as well as Italian meats cheeses flown in from Italy every week. Our wine list is extensive, with many wines available by the glass and by the bottle. We can host your intimate date, family dinner, business meetings, or larger parties in our banquet room. Or come enjoy a specially made cocktail in our bar area and a small bite.

Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh.

Diner Reviews
  • "I have taken clients multiple times and been pleasently impressed with the food and service. Not this time. Food was dry and portions were smaller than in the past. Server was cold and in attentive."

  • "great spot for food and service. nice atmosphere , enjoyed being able to order off of main menu in bar area. wish I new the name of our waitress, she was exceptional."

  • "We loved everything about our evening except for the food. The service and ambiance were terrific, but the meal was not really anything special. Good Mediterra bread with whipped ricotta and olive oil was a great way to start. The wine list was strong, and the wait staff were professional. The cheese sampler was okay, the ravioli home made, and the heirloom tomato sauce good. The standout was roasted cauliflower, surprisingly. I wish I could say we loved the entrees, but I can't. That said, I'd rather go to a well run, hospitable restaurant and have okay food, and walk out feeling like we had a nice evening, instead of stellar food with poor service. So, we'll return to Vallozzi's, but with slightly lowered expectations of the food."

  • "The restaurant did what it was supposed to do; but Greg took it to another level with the service!"

  • "My husband's steak and scallops were really good. My gnocchi was average. The waiter was friendly and attentive but a little more so than I was comfortable. Overall it was good."

  • "The food was excellent, I especially enjoyed the mushroom mac 'n cheese. Sitting outside with the hustle and bustle of the City going past made us feel as though we were in New York City."

  • "Wonderful Italian Restaurant in the heart of Downtown across from PNC Plaza."

  • "From the bar to the table, Vallozzi's is a wonderful experience. Every cocktail, wine choice, and dish were supreme. I will go again and recommend Vallozzi's for anyone who wants the whole experience. You can tell the bartenders, servers, chef, manager and owner love being there which makes you want to be there longer and come again."

  • "We walked up to the hosts, after they were done flirting with there manager i said hey.. we sat down, ordered our food and drinks with app. 30 minutes maybe 31 we got our drinks, then appetizers. 10 minutes later our food came, ok then we ordered a second round of drinks and aksed for more bread..... we were all done with our meals which were great and our drinks came with the checks. The place was 70% full so they werent busy.... our waiter asked us how our food was when he put it down... for four of us our bill was 234 dollars, fair if the service was on par but we will never go back unless the place gets new staff and a new manager.oh we still tipped 40 bux to the waiter because we are nice. no one ever apologized for the horrible timing"

  • "food consistently good, the last few times we've been to the restaurant the noise level seemed to be a little high. perhaps it was the excitement of the theater crowd!"

  • "Service was excellent; white wine came too warm; waitress set up on ice to cool down. Family style starters were good; waitress suggested a hydbrid of the heirloom tomato salad with buffalo mozzarella; came out well. Crudo was good; sea urchin portion difficult to share; better set on an edible base of some sort. Main courses were excellent; linguini with sea urchin and scallops wonderful rich flavor. Lobster risotto excellent."

  • "I had a business lunch with a potential referral source and it was so loud that we could not talk. It was also giving me a migraine"

  • "I have eaten here in the past on several occasions. I thought that on this occasion the food was a little off compared to previous experience. Nevertheless, I really like this restaurant and hope my next visit will be more like previous visits."

  • "This was my first visit to Vallozzi's. The décor was attractive and the food was excellent. Gnocchi was my choice and I would certainly choose it again. The 'pick four' option was very compelling and offered a very diverse selection of choices. This was a business lunch and I can speak for the others in my party in saying that we all enjoyed our experience. On a less than satisfactory note: the wine pour was on the small side."

  • "I got the suckling pig pappardelle and it was literally the best pasta dish I've ever had! Can't wait to go back and try something else. Someone I was with got crab cakes and they were just like huge piles of crabmeat. Great place!"

  • "This needs to be on everybody's list to dine at least monthly."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "Food was excellent, service was excellent, atmosphere was mediocre because tables are close together and the room is loud when filled. They need to reduce the noise level"
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "The noise level was just right for a business lunch. I hate going to places that are so loud that you can't hear each other. The pizza was awesome."

  • "We were seated for 45 minutes and still had not received a scrap of bread. Water was slow in coming and drinks took another 15 minutes. We asked for a bread basket and were left with just a glass of water. We decided to leave after 45 minutes and no hope if seeing any food in the foreseeable future. Tables that were seated after us had drinks and bread."

  • "Our waiter Brett was knowledgable and attentive but not overly. Normalli I don't eat fried food but the fried zucchini for an appetiser is exceptional. The beet and arugala salad is exceptional as well and highly recommended. "

  • "I've gone to Vallozzis a number of times for lunch and have been happy with my meal every time. I've tried a number of different items, from sandwiches to pizzas to entrees, and have thought all exceeded my expectations for quality at the restaurant's fair prices. They always get you in and out within an hour, which is obviously very important. The ambiance is outdated in the main room but the bar area is very nice. Service is really great, maybe the best around for lunch. Many people I've gone with we're going for the first time and all seemed to love it. I've never been for dinner, but I would expect much of the same."

  • "We have taken several guest artists of the Pittsburgh Symphony to this restaurant. It is our go to place because the food is always excellent and the menu has some very interesting choices. If you are looking for someplace to celebrate a special occasion, you won't be disappointed."

  • "Just off market square Vallozzi's is conveniently located. Service and food is much better than the places in the square and the ambiance is very nice. Looks like they have 2 semi private rooms is you have a group of 30 or so. I had the bread pudding which was amazing albeit $8 for a dessert was a little pricey and the piece was HUGE and fed 2 of us. Reservations are a must at lunch time, I tried eating their twice before and was turned away. "

  • "My boyfriend and I were looking for a romantic atmosphere - and we got it. The restaurant ambience was very nice. You do sit a bit close to other people at some tables but it wasn't too bothersome. Our meals were fantastic - I'll rave about that Seafood Risotto forever (not only was it tasty but it had great portions of seafood)! We agreed this makes it to our top 5 favorite restaraunts in the city and plan to go back!"

  • "The overall experience was nothing to talk about...well one thing the fresh mozzarella bar was cool. When you look at comparables at this price point there's better options out there."

  • "Food was excellent. The turtle soup is very good. The only disappointment was the size of the wine serving. For 10 dollars the chianti could not have been more than 4 oz ... Really?? Gone in 4 sips.."

  • "We had yet another wonderful experience. We ordered some charcuterie items, the house salad, pork chop, and the grits special. Our service and the meal were both very good. The special was not as hot (temperature) as we feel it should have been; it was only warm when it was served. It was thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless! We did not order dessert, but we did have coffee. We always enjoy a good cup of coffee after a nice meal. They have great coffee."

  • "The ambiance, wine list, mozzarella bar, and selections were awesome! This was my second visit and I couldn't have been more satisfied. I had the pasta carbanara and it was off the chart! Highly recommended!"

  • "We think about all the places we could go in downtown Pittsburgh these days, but almost always end up at Vallozzis. The bar is a great start. Try something from the fresh mozzarella bar...lots of choices and the staff will help. In the restarant they always seem to have an interesting special, and many great regular menu items. The dishes are regionally specific from Italy, and the staff can often tell you details about the region, and suggest wine pairings from that region. This really adds to the experience for me. "

  • "We went to Vallozzi's Pittsburgh for Mother's Day Brunch. They had a great menu for brunch, and the service was excellent as always. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh."

  • "Very nice restaurant. Very good food. Disappointng first experience though. Food service was exteremly slow (over 45 minutes to get served), they ran out of 2 of our meal selections, no complimentary bread served (in an Italian restaurant!!!). Only option was for biscuit - al a carte. Brunch deal included Bellini or Mimuso (alchohol), although two minors accompanied 2 adults, we were charged for soft drinks and we were not credited (or offerred) for their alchoholic drinks. The quality of the food was very, very good. Although, I thought the portions were small (for an Italian restaurant!) and in the end was was perceived as a resonable brunch deal ($25/p limited menu) ended up $153..."
