A word from Vallone's
Since it opened in late 2013, Vallone's has quickly become one of Houston's top lunch, dinner, and happy hour destinations.

Tony Vallone's Americana-inspired menu features some of his favorite dishes from the American culinary tradition, from French Onion Soup and the "Tex" — two cheese enchiladas served with a center-cut filet — to Baked Alaska and housemade Cotton Candy (even the vanilla wafers for his banana pudding are baked in-house).

Of course, Tony's signature pastas and the 55-day-aged steaks are also stars of the show in his cozy, fireplace-lit dining room.

Do not go hungry. I received 14 miniature raviolini's. My business associate had the salmon that was extremely dry. Hopefully dinner is better because I will not be taking clients there again. Ever.

  • Dry aged steak was disappointing

The appetizers, dessert were excellent, sea bass, salmon, the a la carte cauliflower and brussels sprouts were outstanding, best in town in respect to other steak houses of this class. The dry aged NY strip was disappointing. The steak came out with good "marks" on it but looked dry which my wife made the the first comment on the steak. While it was medium rare, it laced moistness, tenderness and most of all flavor for a dry aged. If cooked at home, I would have called it a select cut. I have grilled, pan fried prime cut strip that were much much better. I did comment to the waiter, but didn't want to make a scene with my guests In retrospect, for an expensive steak, I should have sent it back. This wasn't a prime cut steak.

Since we love Tony's, we were hoping for a similar experience at Vallone's. Unfortunately, it's not in the same league. While the ambiance is pleasant and sophisticated, some of the dishes themselves fell short: the appetizer meat balls were too salty, as was the Caesar salad, the red snapper was a tad on the dry side, and the bar drinks were inconsistent, as if the bartender was following a different recipe each time for the same drink. Otherwise the food was unremarkable; nothing we tried left us swooning like some of the dishes at Tony's. This is based on only one visit, but it was enough that we won't return. Finally, the service was attentive, but overpowering. Too many people coming to our table asking if everything was ok.

I take clients to lunch and or dinner several times a week. Vallones is fast becoming a favorite of mine for their service, quality of food and hospitality. It's a beautiful restaurant experience without feeling pretentious. The owner, Scott, seems to always be there and is very involved in delivering a great experience for all that darken his door. This is the kind of place that will become a Houston mainstay for years to come.

The service was very good, almost intrusive. Had my water glass filled 15 times or so. We had the corn ravioli, which was very good, then the short rib tortollini. It was very rich and heavy. Finished with banana pudding, just ok. It's more of a business dinner place, kinda stuffy. Just not blown away.

My wife and I went to Vallone's for our 9th anniversary. We go to a lot of restaurants and based on the press we had high expectations. The ambiance is pretty posh. We enjoyed sitting in the bar area before our dinner reservation. Drinks prices were medium to high as expected but not too high which was good. My wife loved her special cocktail. Moving to the dining room, again nice atmosphere, servers were pleasant but a little slow. They try to push steaks with their steak rack even though they have seafood, and other meats dishes. I order crab stuffed shrimp which when came out was 3 large (what they thought was large) shrimps. I left hungry. We would definitely go back to grab some drinks and apps during happy hour.

We had not dined at Vallone's before and decided to give it a try during Houston Restaurant Week. We only able to obtain a 6:00pm reservation for Friday night and booked that. I called back to the restaurant about 4:30 to see if something later had opened up. The receptionist was very nice and put me on hold to see what could be done; she came back to the phone and said we eat at 7:00 in the Bistro if we didn't mind not being in the main dining room. We accepted that and had a lovely evening; the Bistro is small and much more quiet than the main room, but the menu is the same. We had a very attentive waiter who was knowledgeable about the items on the menu, but did not hover over us.

What a great place to have a business lunch. I made reservations for 1:30pm and the restaurant was not busy, which was great to have a business conversation in a low noise environment. The food was amazing! I ordered the sirloin and my guest the grilled fish; which both were prepared to perfection, the salad had the right amount of seasoning, not more and not less, just perfect. Service was slow, it took forever to get our entrees...not sure why so slow, however the staff was attentive and friendly. I can't wait to try it for dinner. Certainly in my list of places to have a great lunch. Parking and finding it, not so good, but who cares, the lunch was great!

I took a friend to Vallone's to celebrate her birthday. We loved the design of the dining room, and wine room. The service was really great, and had several waiters and what appeared to be a manager always coming by to make sure we were ok. The bone-in filet was the best steak I ever had, all the food was really well seasoned, and very tasty. They have an incredible wine list, and our waiter chose a nice cabernet that we enjoyed. It was pricey, but in the end it was worth it.

Reception was very friendly. The restaurant is new and very nicely decorated and comfortable. Wine list was quite good. Note that the one in blue print are special selections from the sommelier. Service was well done without being overbearing. Food presentation was good. The cheddar potatoes and onion rings sides were tasty. The cream-less creamed spinach" was a bit of a miss for us. Steaks were done to order. With all the steak places in Houston i would recommend this one. The location is near several other steak places so i sure hope they develop a following. We went on a Tuesday night and they were pretty busy. Lastly there is free parking on the deck right over the restaurant but it isn't real clear where this is.

The restaurant was good the reason I gave it 4 stars only is because my tortellini was a little under cook to where it was hard at the bottom. Also for my husband's beef tips they cook them rare which he hates. We just didn't think to tell them because every restaurant usually ask so we just forgot. But the service was great the manager was outstanding came and spoke with us a few times.

Great food, great atmosphere, but service, although good, was not great. When I reached for the decanter to refill our wine glasees, I thought our waiter was going to break his neck to reach our table quickly to make the pour for us. That did not cause him to keep a closer eye, as I consistently had to perform that function.

This was our first time. As it was Sunday there were few tables occupied during our visit. We had well-prepared martinis to start, followed by salads. Vallone's interpretation of the wedge was interesting: a small cup-like bed of lettuce filled with diced veggies and the sauce. Unique, tasty, but probably not worth the $10 price tag. The Summer Salad was delightful. We both had rare steaks - a filet and a ribeye - done properly, along with a Brussel sprout side that was rich and flavorful. Coconut cake was our dessert. Price aside, it would be hard to find any fault with the food and its prep. Our waitress and the staff were friendly and accommodating. This is just what you want for a special night out: no hassles, just enjoyment.

This was my second visit. First time was lunch which was excellent. I had the salmon with creamed squash. My husband and I went for dinner. We were hoping the Caesar salad would be from scratch. It was the usual creamy bottled dressing with too much cheese. No anchovies to be found! The filet was tender, but had too much salt. The glazed cauliflower was delicious. The sourdough bread warm and crispy. The noise level was good, which is a big plus these days. All and all the restaurant was great. We would go again.

Our meal and service was excellent. A small freshly baked sourdough loaf is brought to the table which is delicious. We both ordered the 8oz filet mignon and the brussel sprouts and the truffle mac and cheese to share as sides. Everything was excellent. The steaks were cooked perfectly and truly were some of the best we've eaten in Houston. The side dishes were also outstanding. The wine list is also exceptional. The only downfall is the ambience. At 8:30 on a Friday night the restaurant was barely half full and the lighting was just too bright. I'm not sure how the ambience can be corrected - it's almost as if the ceilings are too soaring...

Unique tastes and food pairings. The special cocktail menu had some awesome drinks. Extremely attentive service and our server Gigi was amazing. The Tex was an unusual pairing with a filet and cheese enchiladas. Fantastic. The steaks were seasoned to perfection and melt in your mouth perfect. This place is about quality uniquely prepared food with sufficient portions. The green beans with sherry were a treat and the seabass was a great selection.
