Diner Reviews
  • "This place is absolutely awsome. How it took me 34 years to discover it is beyond me. Absolutely fabulous location along the Wissahickon. My daughters loved the sucks and wildlife. My wife and I loved the bianco as we dined on the porch. If you've never been, you owe it to yourself to give this a shot."

  • "The food failed to meet our expectations. While initially slow, the service improved during the meal. There is no dedicated parking nearby. There is just one handicapped space. Fortunately, a member of my party drove the car to a far away and up a hill space. What would a handicapped driver do if other members of the party did not drive? There is too much included in the brunch. Just one of the four of us opted for juice and coffee. Alacarte pricing would make sense."

  • "We had a wonderful lunch at the Valley Green Inn after a nice family walk along the Wissahickon Trail. The staff were extremely accommodating, as we had a stroller, and our server, Tia, was outstanding. Everything was perfect. We will be back soon! Thanks!"

  • "Enjoyable atmosphere for lunch...little musty smell in dining area."

  • "Drive into a valley and over a creek to a location you may not think would be part of a major city. Spend time walking along the water. Quality and preparation of menu items are very good. Staff is friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Atmosphere inside is traditional, elegant, quaint, and relaxed. Seating outside is more relaxed and great as long as it is not too cold or too hot/humid (small flying insects can be an annoyance). No children’s menu but they seem to happily accommodate children with high quality items such as chicken fingers and other options. For the quality and portion size, prices are reasonable. Seating seems somewhat limited so making reservations may be a good idea."

  • "The outdoor patio dining provided a peaceful ambiance to a wonderfully prepared meal with attentive service. The rich history of the Inn also provided a special touch to the evening."

  • "We've eaten here a number of times, brunch, lunch and dinner, and it is always a great choice. We prefer to sit outside whenever the weather allows. On June 22 we had brunch on the porch and it was wonderful. I usually get the waffles and fruit because its my favorite, but my husband gets something different every time. This time he got eggs and smoked salmon, which looked really good! We had several people serving us, and we never felt rushed."

  • "We are old friends of Valley Green Inn. We took a friend who hadn't been there before to lunch the other day. Seated in one of the two small rooms . Also in room as a table for 10 or 12 filled up promptly with group of happy talkative and loud women. We couldn't hear ourselves think. We just gave up talking. The ladies were having a great time. As we left man at desk said there was nothing he could have done. a waitress apologized etc but said couldn't help it. Never should seat small tables in room with large group. It will be a long time before we go back."

  • "Perfect experience for a family. Great surroundings, food, and the drinks were very good. Because of the surroundings, its easy to keep children entertained before, during and after the dining experience."

  • "The service was warm and friendly. Our food was served in a timely fashion, but not rushed. We went for brunch; we would do that again, and may even try dinner."

  • "I've eaten dinner and lunch here a few times over the years, and always it is delicious. Inside the old, renovated building is romantic, outside on the veranda is beautiful and peaceful."

  • "I already had brunch at Valley Green Inn three times. The last time, we were seated outside, which was nice because it was a very sunny Sunday morning. The place is a comfy old house with very pleasant servers. The food was great and I love my cappuccinos every time (I just wished that they were included in the price of the brunch). I highly recommend this place for a delightful morning with your beloved ones."

  • "Always a great spot for brunch. It was graduation weekend and there were groups to be attended to but that left us small tables lacking in service and even when the order was messed up they didn't recover very well. The waitress tried to make amends by coming to our table many times but she should have been in the kitchen resolving our issue rather than trying to chat us up. "

  • "I wish I could rate this place better. The atmosphere is terrific and the service is good. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. It took a very long time to receive our food despite the restaurant being near empty on a Friday night. All 4 entrees ordered by our table were disappointing. The lamb was gristly and needed to be sent back. The risotto was undercooked and flavorless. Too bad as the location is truly unique. "

  • "My husband proposed to me at the Valley Green Inn. So every anniversary we have brunch there. It never lets us down and everything is so delicious . Crab cake Benedict ! Almost sinful. The help is also very good."

  • "Had friends visiting from out of state and wanted to show off the unique location of Valley Green Inn. It's true I had read it was better for brunch, but our time together was a Friday evening dinner. Soup was slow to arrive (we were almost alone in the restaurant at 6 p.m. ) The waitress spoke so softly, and to the rest of the dining room rather than to the four of us, and did not give the impression she cared about the food, or us. The entree's we each ordered were average, and pricey. . . .. . We left as soon as we were finished eating. "

  • "Horrible experience. Food was mediocre, but the worst was a large group that was ruining the experience. In spite of several requests by us and others, the staff and management did nothing to try to get the large group to behave like adults with any semblance of class. WILL NOT GO BACK AS GRENN VALLEY INN SHOWED THEY DIDN'T CARE"

  • "I arrived at 5:30 for 7:30 reservation and took a walk along Wissahickon Creek to the nearby dam and beyond. It was 63 out and beautiful day. I had the lamb, mashed potato's with pears on top which was delicious. As a visitor to this area the BYOB situation is confusing so I was very happy with the house cabernet. It was a sublime evening!"

  • "My husband has fond memories of VG since he ran through here often as he practiced for the Roxborough Track Team in high school. Being from California, when he first brought me here, I found it to be not only beautiful and peacefu but with the added bonus of a wonderful place to dine! We took my daughter and her fiance here to celebrate their engagement and this April we took my brother who was here on business. It was sad that he did not get to see VG in Spring splendor due to the late winter but the experience was enjoyable nonetheless. Our waitress was outstanding, friendly and efficient, even giving my brother a brief oral history of the origins of the VG Inn. Always a great place to visit when we come to Philly! I highly recommend it.."

  • "Went to Valley Green Inn for a "girls day out" with my sister in laws and mother in law for Brunch. It was PERFECT! Very private. Candles on our table. Spectacular views, the service was fantastic with a very knowledgeable waitress and the food and drinks were good. Can't wait to go again."

  • "We went to Valley Green Inn for our wedding anniversary last Saturday. Ii is truly a gem! Located in the park. I wish the weather was better. It was raining that day. I can imagine how wonderful is there outdoors. Service was impeccable. So was the food. Highly recommend."

  • "Valley Green is such a rarity, with its lovingly preserved traditional ambiance and perfectly consistent contemporary food that we almost hate to promote this tiny gem hidden in a forest by the Wissahickon creek. Our one peeve is that the service really falls apart on Sunday night, when an untrained rookie takes over. O.K., there is a second peeve and that is, they have run out of fire wood, and it is still cold enough to make a cheery fire more than welcome. (Recently, we were met with a space heater in front of the fireplace!) But, these are minor flaws when the entire proposition is taken into perspective."

  • "The host mentioned multiple times that they were booked solid for brunch. We felt very rushed. We were not offered another beverage, nor were our waters refilled. The food was just ok, considering the price. Maybe dinner is better than brunch."

  • "My fiancée and I are here for Valentine's day this year. The food was PHENOMENAL. I had the Filet with bone marrow and prosciutto and she had the crab cakes. We ended up splitting it for a little surf and turf action. We also split an app, a salad, and a dessert. All for under $100! Great food at the right price. Not to mention we got to eat right by the fireplace. Beautiful evening at a beautiful restaurant. Can't wait to try it out for brunch!"

  • "I love the valley green inn. Very romantic place with a unique atmosphere with outstanding food! Staff was very friendly and inviting. However, not a place for young children in the evening. We went the night after valentines day and there was a family with two young children who were very loud and ruined the romantic, quiet, intimate atmosphere the place usually has. Sound carries easily in the place so if your kids tend to misbehave this is not the place for them! Otherwise this place is perfect for a special night out!"

  • "Great colonial feel. Very charming and a little rustic. Food was nicely prepared from the interesting menu, but there was a lot going on every plate and some of the portions were very, very large."

  • "After years of going to the Wissahickon, I'd walked by the Inn hundreds of times but never eaten here. Glad I finally did. This cute, quaint inn has rustic charm you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. From the uneven ceilings to the fireplace to the old paintings on the wall, this is the real deal. Our server was hilarious and welcoming, the food was great, and price was reasonable. We're now considering holding our wedding here!"

  • "My wife and I visited Valley Green to celebrate her birthday. We've been there a few times before and have never been disappointed. I made reservations, and ordered flowers for the table. Upon our arrival, they took us directly to our table and just as planed, the flowers were there. The place is small and cozy. We were right next to the fireplace, on a cold December night. Service was very attentive, we never had to look for our server, the food was fantastic and brought to us at a very comfortable pace. I would certainly go again in a heart beat."

  • "Our group of five all had an enjoyable lunch at the Valley Green Inn. The restaurant is an old historic building that sits on the banks of the Wissahickon Creek, very scenic with rustic elegance. The food was very good and satisfied all our varied tastes. The hot mulled cider and butternut squash soup were particularly enjoyable on a cold winter day. Our waitress was warm and friendly and offered some helpful suggestions about the food. She even offered tasting samples of the soup to help us in our selections. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to friends and family."

  • "For years Valley Green Inn meant one thing: Thanksgiving. I worked almost every one and VGI had a Noon seating so we'd have the Thanksgiving meal there and do the home cooked one on Saturday. But about 7 years ago I started taking Thanksgiving off and VGI faded from memory. Until last Friday night! I have a friend who lives nearby but had never been. So VGI suddenly turned into her new neighborhood restaurant! Sat by the fireplace. Martinis...baked brie and ravioli appetizers...filet and Diver scallop entrees. All was right with the world. Valley Green Inn. It's not just for special occasions anymore!"
