Diner Reviews
  • "I arrived at 5:30 for 7:30 reservation and took a walk along Wissahickon Creek to the nearby dam and beyond. It was 63 out and beautiful day. I had the lamb, mashed potato's with pears on top which was delicious. As a visitor to this area the BYOB situation is confusing so I was very happy with the house cabernet. It was a sublime evening!"

  • "My husband has fond memories of VG since he ran through here often as he practiced for the Roxborough Track Team in high school. Being from California, when he first brought me here, I found it to be not only beautiful and peacefu but with the added bonus of a wonderful place to dine! We took my daughter and her fiance here to celebrate their engagement and this April we took my brother who was here on business. It was sad that he did not get to see VG in Spring splendor due to the late winter but the experience was enjoyable nonetheless. Our waitress was outstanding, friendly and efficient, even giving my brother a brief oral history of the origins of the VG Inn. Always a great place to visit when we come to Philly! I highly recommend it.."

  • "Went to Valley Green Inn for a "girls day out" with my sister in laws and mother in law for Brunch. It was PERFECT! Very private. Candles on our table. Spectacular views, the service was fantastic with a very knowledgeable waitress and the food and drinks were good. Can't wait to go again."

  • "We went to Valley Green Inn for our wedding anniversary last Saturday. Ii is truly a gem! Located in the park. I wish the weather was better. It was raining that day. I can imagine how wonderful is there outdoors. Service was impeccable. So was the food. Highly recommend."

  • "Valley Green is such a rarity, with its lovingly preserved traditional ambiance and perfectly consistent contemporary food that we almost hate to promote this tiny gem hidden in a forest by the Wissahickon creek. Our one peeve is that the service really falls apart on Sunday night, when an untrained rookie takes over. O.K., there is a second peeve and that is, they have run out of fire wood, and it is still cold enough to make a cheery fire more than welcome. (Recently, we were met with a space heater in front of the fireplace!) But, these are minor flaws when the entire proposition is taken into perspective."

  • "The host mentioned multiple times that they were booked solid for brunch. We felt very rushed. We were not offered another beverage, nor were our waters refilled. The food was just ok, considering the price. Maybe dinner is better than brunch."

  • "A wonderful and relaxing way to spend an evening of fine dining with friends and/or family by a crackling fire. The Sunday brunch is especially recommended."

  • "Food is old school mediocre but hospitality is very warm. Go for the spectacular view and wildlife. Sit by a crackling fire and visit with friends."

  • "My fiancée and I are here for Valentine's day this year. The food was PHENOMENAL. I had the Filet with bone marrow and prosciutto and she had the crab cakes. We ended up splitting it for a little surf and turf action. We also split an app, a salad, and a dessert. All for under $100! Great food at the right price. Not to mention we got to eat right by the fireplace. Beautiful evening at a beautiful restaurant. Can't wait to try it out for brunch!"

  • "I love the valley green inn. Very romantic place with a unique atmosphere with outstanding food! Staff was very friendly and inviting. However, not a place for young children in the evening. We went the night after valentines day and there was a family with two young children who were very loud and ruined the romantic, quiet, intimate atmosphere the place usually has. Sound carries easily in the place so if your kids tend to misbehave this is not the place for them! Otherwise this place is perfect for a special night out!"

  • "Food was excellent. We had our own room for the 7 of us...4 of whom are under 6 years-old. Very professional, responsive, considerate and kid-friendly service."

  • "Great colonial feel. Very charming and a little rustic. Food was nicely prepared from the interesting menu, but there was a lot going on every plate and some of the portions were very, very large."

  • "After years of going to the Wissahickon, I'd walked by the Inn hundreds of times but never eaten here. Glad I finally did. This cute, quaint inn has rustic charm you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. From the uneven ceilings to the fireplace to the old paintings on the wall, this is the real deal. Our server was hilarious and welcoming, the food was great, and price was reasonable. We're now considering holding our wedding here!"

  • "My wife and I visited Valley Green to celebrate her birthday. We've been there a few times before and have never been disappointed. I made reservations, and ordered flowers for the table. Upon our arrival, they took us directly to our table and just as planed, the flowers were there. The place is small and cozy. We were right next to the fireplace, on a cold December night. Service was very attentive, we never had to look for our server, the food was fantastic and brought to us at a very comfortable pace. I would certainly go again in a heart beat."

  • "Our group of five all had an enjoyable lunch at the Valley Green Inn. The restaurant is an old historic building that sits on the banks of the Wissahickon Creek, very scenic with rustic elegance. The food was very good and satisfied all our varied tastes. The hot mulled cider and butternut squash soup were particularly enjoyable on a cold winter day. Our waitress was warm and friendly and offered some helpful suggestions about the food. She even offered tasting samples of the soup to help us in our selections. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to friends and family."

  • "For years Valley Green Inn meant one thing: Thanksgiving. I worked almost every one and VGI had a Noon seating so we'd have the Thanksgiving meal there and do the home cooked one on Saturday. But about 7 years ago I started taking Thanksgiving off and VGI faded from memory. Until last Friday night! I have a friend who lives nearby but had never been. So VGI suddenly turned into her new neighborhood restaurant! Sat by the fireplace. Martinis...baked brie and ravioli appetizers...filet and Diver scallop entrees. All was right with the world. Valley Green Inn. It's not just for special occasions anymore!"

  • "Everything was very good. We ordered 5 different dinners and 4 were very good...pork chop was overdone. Room was quiet as there were only two others present. We were able to hear each other easily. Will return."
