My husband and I had a delightful dinner here. It was quiet enough to have a conversation, the room was lovely, the food delicious and the service was perfectly attentive but not obtrusive. Of course, the prices are pretty high, but for a high end restaurant, you get your money's worth.

Valentino was our destination for a Friday date night. This was our first time here and our overall experience was a pleasure. It was easy to make a reservation on Open Table, and we were greeted with warm and attentive staff. Highlights: extensive wine menu, comforting italian food, great service. There was a slight snafu and wine spillage, but the waiter handled it seamlessly and offered me another glass of wine. Nice neighborhood option.

I'll keep it simple: the (merely) good: a daily special of salad with crab. Good, but the crab didn't really contribute to the salad's flavor. My entree, eggplant parmesan: also good, not quite up to the lightness of what we used to get at Bruno's Ristorante 25 years ago. The fantastic: mushroom tortino appetizer and our dessert, a molten chocolate cake. The tortino wasn't on the menu, but the chef made it for us. Pure heaven. And the cake: I don't think there is any better dessert anywhere! Plans for next time: 1. Reservation for 5:30 instead of 5. Maybe the evening rush will have ended by 7:30. 2. One appetizer, then ask the waiter to keep bringing mushroom tortinos until I say to stop. Get bored? Never! 3. At least 3 in our party

We hadn't been to Valentino for a while and we're happy to see that, if anything, time has been good to this west side standard bearer that has been serving great Italian food for 40 years. To begin with, it's always a pleasure to see Piero who makes all his guests feel welcomed and a staff that works seamlessly to help diners navigate the amazing wine list and suggest food pairings that make any dinner at Valentino's special. And the cannoli are just as good as ever, too. Buon appetito

Our experience was a real let down. First of all, the restaurant was uninspiring, so no vibe. Second the food was under par/over priced. The bread seemed to be day old and toasted. The veal chop was especially disappointing. The meat was tough, tasteless, and showed no sign of marinating, and poorly presented. However, my wife did enjoy her branzino. The corkage charge was $30/bottle and not communicated on their website or by the staff. I think time has not been kind to this place. The waiter was attentive and saw to it that our glasses were always filled. However, after we left, we realized he had overcharged us for our salads. Instead of charging us for splitting one salad, he actually charged us full price for two.

That's all I would share with the man I married fifty years ago. And he, in turn, spared a tender bite of a three inch thick tenderlicious veal chop with mushroom sauce. We live in San Diego, where dining choices have...improved. We made this trip to see what a one-star Michelin dinner could do for a marriage. Well, it proved that while we both wax poetic at times about our shared love, we are greedily selfish when served an exceptional entree, especially when they have been few and far between when dining out. My Osso Bucco was better than Florence's best. Something else I love about Valentino, besides knowing exactly how to treat every cut of veal: if you order wine by the glass, you get extraordinary wine. Honest Goodness. Valentino.

Recommended by a boss of my best friend to visit Valentino. Our dinner was absolutely satisfied. Especially the lava cake , that I had it for dessert, where I found it really well made. Our entrees were recommended by the server and it were all we love. In general as our first time experience at Valentino, we had a good dinner, warm welcomed experience with Valentino, and a wow good impression. I will sure recommend this place to friends and co-workers !

Wonderful food and service, as expected. Our evening was marred, however, by the presence of a large very loud drunken group in the main room. These people were screaming at the top of their lungs, which made pleasant dinner conversation difficult. I have been in quieter sports bars.

Unless you are a regular patron or celebrity, do not expect much from this restaurant. We deeply regret switching our reservation from Providence to Valentino. The traffic could not have been worse than the service at Valentino. And while the appetizers, pastas, and desserts were quite good, the entrees were nothing special. What was most stunning, however, was that we were basically ignored and had to flag the waiter down to even get menus.

The food is excellent. We have been here many times and the food is always good and creative. We normally share everything so that we can have an appetizer course, pasta course, main course and a desert. The service is excellent and the somlier is knowledgeable. This time we had a Vino Nobile di Montipulciano recomended by the somlier that was very good and reasonably priced. Valentino has the best wine list that I have ever encountered. It is fun just reading it before dinner, though if you get old wines you can certainly drop some $! The only real criticism that I have is that the back room, though comfortable, has no windows and seems rather fortress like.

Valentino, after more than 30 years, still remains one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, and perhaps in California. The quality of the food is superb, the presentation artistic, and the service impeccable. Combine this with a wine list the size of a telephone book, with prices and vintages to satisfy the most demanding vineophile, and you have a gem of a place. Owner and host Piero Salvaggio is usually on the premises making certain that his high standards are being maintained. My wife and I have been going to Valentino since the late 70"s, and not once have been disappointed.

We used a Groupon for the 5 course mean and the waiter recommended the wine pairing. Each course, paired with the perfect Italian wine, was spectacular. I can't say enough about the quality of food, wine, and especially the service. Our waiter was extremely helpful in choosing the food and for giving us excellent information about each glass of wine. I called in to let them know it was my wife's birthday and they were very kind to put us in a very romantic and private table in the back in special area. The Italian "Such" and Veal were amazing starters. The Duck Confit Lasagne and Maltagliati With Pesto were even better. Then short ribs and lobster risotto. The tiramisu for dessert was the best we've ever had. Valentino is a must.

We ate Valentino's on previous occasions, and were looked forward to this mea; we used a GROUPON coupon. We found we were ordering from a different menu, not used for "regular" customers; not a good sign. We found the meal essentially mediocre - not particularly creative, and of average preparation. The lobster risotto sauce was bland, and was decidedly not distinctive; very generic. The veal was inordinately thin and too well done - tough to cut and to chew. The most annoying aspect of our experience was not the fault of the restaurant -- but certainly did not add to the evening; a party of ~eight people seated near us included one woman whose ear-piecing laughing and loud voice essentially prevented us from talking with one another.

On a trip into LA, we ate here because of its reputation for excellent food. And it was. Every portion (main course, veggies, salad) had a distinctive, excellent taste. It was expensive, but it was worth it. We arrived at 5 PM on a Wednesday right when they opened and for the next hour we were the only customers, so it was very quiet. We will definitely return.
