  • "We had a party of 6 for dinner and the food was delicious. The service was pretty good as well. We were very disappointed, however, when we received our check. We were charged for an extra bottle of wine (3, instead of 2) and an extra espresso! And when we brought up the 2 separate mistakes, they were not in the least bit sorry/apologetic which leads us to believe the mistakes were not "mistakes". Disappointing."

  • "The food and service were excellent. The wine list is incredible, although not much in the lower price range. However, we did find an excellent bottle of wine at a reasonable price. The decor in the main dining room is somewhat outdated, but the other rooms were nicer and they appear to have an upstairs outdoor area, as well. We were also pleasantly surprised when the bill was received because it was much more reasonable than we expected."

  • "I met a friend for lunch on a Friday (when Valentino serves lunch) and to put it simply: we were blown away. It started with an enthusiastic greeting from Piero Selvaggio--the man who opened Valentino in 1972 and has been at the helm ever since. We began with a nice glass of white wine. The brand was Alois and it just so happens the winemakers were visiting from the Amalfi Coast so we got to meet them as well. How often do you get to meet winemakers while at lunch in LA!? Pretty cool. Chef Nico whipped up a dish with garlic bread, seafood, broth and fresh oregano... I wish I could remember what it was called. It was SO good. We tried a few other things, including a dessert trio with gelato, canoli and a chocolate lava cake. Wow. Just WOW!!!"

  • "The mushroom tortino was everything it always has been: smooth, mushroomy, delicious. The Italian "Suchi": not sushi as a Japanese would know it, but a subtle delight. The osso bucco with risotto: yummy. I found the meat a trifle dry, but my wife loved it. And linguini with clams: almost traditional, but the chef had added just a touch of pepperoncini, those little mild Italian peppers. Wow! What a combination. We had just room to split an order of Molten chocolate cake. A reliably delicious dessert, leaving us thoroughly satiated. If I were a Michelin reviewer, I'd give Valentino three stars: "Worth a trip just to eat here.""

  • "We went to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and it was amazing! We were greeted warmly at the door and served with courtesy and attentiveness the entire evening. The food was spectacular and they even brought us a special dessert to help celebrate our anniversary. We will definitely return for future celebrations."

  • "The salad was so fresh and crispy. Lobster ravioli pasta was excellent. Our original waiter may have gotten a little annoyed because other person in the party was on the phone when he came to give the specials, and he walked off and it took a looooong time for another waiter to finally come and get our drink order. That's fine. My friend should not have been on the phone. But what do you expect, it's business. Ambience is a little stiff. "

The service was personalized the host and the chef come out to say hi and let us know more about the food. The servers were aware of the food and wines ti a way greater details than other places.   • "We had a Travelzoo deal for a 5 course dinner for two which included a glass of Prosecco or wine and coffee for $135 with a value for about $250. Most courses were excellent except for 2 or 3. A veal ravioli dish was bland as bland could be with some sort of meat paste and 2 pea sized pieces of gristle. The rabbit entree revealed a pressed meat or charcuterie version rather than a fresh and unadulterated piece of meat. I felt I could not complain about the bland and gristle dish or the disappointment of the rabbit dish as the other courses were excellent and we were getting a very good deal. It was not perfection but Valentino does a lot extremely well. Service was very professional, even from the "bus boy.""

  • "We hadn't been to Valentino for some time but had some Italian friends in town and decided to drop in last Saturday. We were delighted and so were they. As always, the staff couldn't have been more gracious and even with Piero off for the night toattend a family function, we felt like old friends being welcomed home. The amuse of "Frigo", thinly fried parmiggiano is stilll a pleaser and our starters had our friends feeling like they were back home. They are from Piemonte, home of vitello tonnato and we all agreed Valentino's version was as good if not better than they'd find back in Asti. Pastas were perfectly done,and while we usually don't eat dessert the Budino or vanilla pudding was amazing. We'll be back soon"

The spaghetti sauce was very bland and the beef gave the impression of being boiled and the cooked to toughness. The chef used a very heavy hand with the salt. They could really use a renovation in the dining area to bring the ambiance up to par. The bread was dry, cold, and flavorless. However, the service was great, they pulled out my chair, refilled my water frequently, and were knowledgeable about the menu. My pasta dish was very tasty, however, my husbands was not that great. I wouldn't eat here again or recommend this restaurant to a friend."

Finally being able to out that to use bc it was my husbands BDay we made a Rez in Opentable which is so wonderful and easy. We had the five course chef's special menu that was specific to Travelzoo. Everything was perfect and delicious. Sushi was divine! Pastas were so delicious and fresh. Sauces to mmmmm over. Dessert was a 3 small bite pairing and all yummy. We purchased a 1974 French red that brought a genuine smile on his face and he pretty much dreamt about it. All in all I just loved it."

  • "My wife and I went out on a weekday. The service was impeccable. Ambiance was old-school, white tablecloth, and very nice. The food was good, but not $200 dinner good - and we just had one glass of wine total. I went traditional with a linguine alla vongole. Clams were overly small, not a lot of flavor. Sauce also weak and unexceptional. There was nothing "wrong" with the meal, and we had a very nice time. But for that price tag, I expect an exceptional meal, not merely "ok.""

  • "We went for my husband's birthday because we've always wanted to try this place. The atmosphere was nice and the wine selection was impressive. We did a tasting course, and I must say the homemade pasta was great as was the tiramisu. That having been said, I would stop with the pasta if you go - the mains were good, but not great, and took away from the how good the prior pasta course was. It is a bit fancy, so of you're looking for a quaint little neighborhood restaurant, this isn't it. If you're looking for old-school Italian with great wine and great pasta and a slight Godfather feel, Valentino's is your place."

Those things are still true, but our Valentine's evening was such a disaster I will never go back. We had a 6:30 reservation, and were promptly seated. The menu that night was an abbreviated prix fixe menu with four or so selections for each of the three courses, plus a uniform dessert. We ordered and got our first course promptly. Then we waited and waited and waited. Our entrees finally arrived at 8:30, two hours after we were seated. Our waiter did nothing to keep us abreast of the status of our meal. Then, to complete the experience, the valets lost our car, and took 45 minutes to find it. A fiasco."

  • "We loved Valentino's classic Italian vibe. They have perfected the art of sublime food combined with impeccable service and a refined yet relaxed ambiance. Paul was our waiter and he made us feel like royalty, while also making us feel right at home. The entire staff were very attentive, but never hurried us and allowed us to linger over each course. Paul offered our heart's desire from the menu, and also let us know the chef was willing to prepare any other dish that we might desire. Each course was more delicious than the next. Everyone made our birthday celebration memorable and very special. We give Valentino's very high marks."
