I wouldn't call the place romantic looking. Maybe because of the wood and steel gives it and almost man cave feel with a wife's touch."

Knowing what I do about good Italian in Manhattan it is hard to justify a repeat performance because I can quickly off the top of my head name 5 other places with food just as good if not better for 30-40% less and an equal or better atmosphere."

  • "Seafood cocktail special was insanely delicious with nice portions. The arugula salad and dressing had great texture and flavor yet was sublime. Entrees were just okay...the chicken breast with fontina cheese and procuitto and the red snapper special. The chocolate souffle and napolean are the best I've ever had. Service was excellent but had to call over the waiter a couple of times because the wait staff were talking among themselves in a group."

  • "Went here for my birthday and I am amazing time. The host kept my friends and I highly entertained. He checked in periodically to see if everything was going well. The waiter that we had was very knowledgeable about the wine selection and the best food choices on the menu. The food was phenomenal. After we ordered our dessert and finished eating, the host brought out another dessert free on the house. Which was a surprise because even though this is an upscale restaurant, you would think that they would not do such a thing. Thank you Valbella, I will be back again."

  • "Outstanding. Although rated high, I still don't believe Valbella gets its due. Love the fact that they don't have a lazy prixe fixe menu on special occasions -NYE, Valentine's Day, etc. If you have a great kitchen you should be able to handle it. The space is incredible. The private rooms exceptional. Spending my entire professional career in pharmaceuticals I have had the opportunity to frequent most of the top restaurants in the city and service, food, ambiance, and their ability to accommodate puts Valbella at the top. To me, it compares favorably to Babbo, Del Posto and other italian outposts. Hit the cold seafood app, veal chop and you must order the napoleon for dessert."

  • "The white lights and spacing of tables is not very good. I have been to the other Valbella and it seems like the NYC one has the wrong elements to make it popular. The service wasn't very friendly or cordial. I had to ask for everything twice. The white lights for the winter theme makes everything look like a prison. Also, putting tables next to fire exits is definite no-no."

Oysters, veal carpaccio, truffle fettucini all standouts. Mid course pasta selection wonderful combination - including Italian sausage risotto. Fantastic wine list. You will want to experience this."

  • "Saved for a special occasion, but It was a disaster! The waiter was brusk and arrogant. The food choices were adequate, but the wine list eye-popping. There was very little on the list priced under $100, with the median around $200. I began to feel like a victim. This feeling was only accentuated by the quality of the food. A gigantic salad, swimming in oil; scallops with so much tarragon that we couldn't finish the appetizer. The main dishes where even worse. A veal dish in which the meat had been cooked to cardboard; a seafood pasta in which the seafood was almost pulp. We left our plates only partially eaten. The bill was over $300...for evening of suffering! Perhaps an off night, but we shall never return to find out."

  • "Had dinner here recently with a group of six prior to seeing a show. We had an early reservation which may have made a significant difference in noise level of the restaurant. I suspect that the noise level can get quite loud when business really picks up. Whatever the case, we had an outstanding meal. My party ordered a good range of dishes from the menu and all were amazing. The salads are perfectly dressed, well composed, and absolute works of art. The burrata appetizer is also outstanding. I especially liked the linguini with frutti di mare. It was the best rendition of the dish that I have ever eaten. I suspect there is nothing this restaurant does not do well."

The staff at the door did not bother with a greeting unless "What's your last name" counts, not even a good evening...The Maitre 'd didnt utter even a single word to us. He pointed to us and then walked a few feet and pointed to a table. When paying $300 for dinner a friendly greeting is in order. The two crabby women at the door seemed to not care one way or another if they ever had another customer. The Maitre'd was the worst...he appeared downright annoyed that we came at all. Valbella is no longer my favorite dinner restaurant. I will not return and will advise everyone that I know not to waste time or money on this establishment."

  • "We had trouble finding a table but we were lucky enough to find a late reservation here. What really made our night was Sonny our waiter. If you like a quiet, reserved professional this is not your guy! But from the time we sat down he made sure we got what we wanted even if we asked for something else!! Honestly I eat out a lot and Sonny was the best (not the most professional) waiter we've had he made the night! The food was fantastic, Veal chop, Chicken parm, Truffle pasta and Sea Bass all great!"
