A word from Valanni
Valanni restaurant opened its doors in September of 2000, introducing "Medi-Latin" cuisine to Philadelphia. Situated right off of the "Avenue of the Arts," Valanni has become a pre-theater ritual and place to meet for a night-cap for many who live in and around the neighborhood. The bar at Valanni keeps up with the creative food served by offering an assortment of sangria, mojitos and other specialty drinks. The kitchen is open until 1 AM daily serving Tapas and a Mediterranean inspired lounge menu.

  • "This is an excellent place for Sunday brunch. It wasn't crowded and the food and drinks were delicious. I would definitely go back again!"

  • "Went here for some small plates and drinks with a friend after work. After living in Philly 2 years, I still maintain that their grilled caesar salad is The Best I've ever had. Oh, and all the other food was pretty great too. My one complaint was that whenever our water came to check in and see if we wanted to order more dishes/drinks, he looked really annoyed if we said no. Oh, I'm sorry, am I supposed to stuff myself and get wasted on a Tuesday to fatten up your tip? Fortunately, I know that their staff is generally pretty fantastic, especially the bartenders, so it was a shame we got stuck with this guy serving us."

  • "Went here on a Sunday, they have a nice Tapas menu with a variety of cuisine selections. Bacon wrapped figs were my favorite followed by the scallops. Overall the food was above average."

  • "Valanni has gone from one of my faves to I probably won't go back. The pitchers of sangria used to be the best. Now they pour a bottle of wine over marinated fruit and call it Sangria. Yuk! Tapas menu is no longer the same. Fried chick peas used to be "real" - now look like mozzarella sticks and taste like mush. Took off the shrimp options as well. No more shrimp scampi or flatbread but you can get shrimp if you like it with octopus. The previously fabulous lobster mac n cheese had so little lobster that we had to dig down to the bottom to find one piece. This restaurant is conveniently located in the theater district and we would always go here for tapas and sangria. At one point they were a close tie with Amada- no more..."

  • "Absolutely delicious brunch! Great place to catch-up with girlfriends. Mix your own mimosas for $25 (bottle of champagne and carafe of OJ) And the omlettes were all excellent. I'd highly recommend the one with shrimp, pancetta, and truffled provolone!"

  • "Valanni never fails to fulfill my expectations -- in food and in ambiance. Noisy, but interesting people making the noise! Our small dishes were creative, but the paella was disappointingly "tired." As always, compliments to the bartender."

  • "We went to celebrate a special occasion- it was a group of five of us. Our server was excellent and offered recommendations when we asked for them. The tapas had a wide variety and everyone enjoyed their food and the atmosphere."

  • "My wife and I visited prior to a show at the Kimmel. Our experience was first rate from the start. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable without hovering and the food was fantastic. We tried six of their tapas offerings, and even the Brussels sprouts, of which I am traditionally not a fan, were delicious. I would definitely come again."

  • "Visited Vallani as pre theatre visit and was not disappointed. Intimate, "chic", comfortable. From environment, to food, to service Vallani is an excellent establishment. It's romantic, cozy but not claustrophobic. Food was paired with great saucing, well prepared, well seasoned. I plan to return there again in the near future to continue sampling the menu. You would be "well-served" to put Vallani on your list of Philly restaurant gems to visit."

  • "Sitting outside is great! So is, the Polenta and shrimp, Warm brie and cranberries, scallops, the mushroom flatbread, the spinach pastry. Server was such a nice guy!! :-)"

  • "Really enjoyed our visit - we had asked for a quiet table and were promptly seated in the back of the house - isolated from rest of diners - perfect! Our server was attententive and gave advice /suggestions since we had a vegan party in our group Wine selections very nice - the techno type music was kinda a dull throb in the background - but tolerable. we didn't have to raise/elevate or strain for conversations. Especially liked the fig in bacon and the vegetarian paella. Wish I had tried the meat/seafood one now. thanks!"

  • "The food was really delicious. The menu had so many choices, that we want to return to sample the others. A little on the noisy side, and our server was a bit rushed, but the food is excellent!"

  • "I took my brother and his girlfriend here while they were visiting from out of town. We ordered all tapas/small plates to share. Everything was delicious except we weren't a huge fan of the baked brie. It was not quite what I was expecting. I also ordered the mango mojito, which was absolutely delicious. For the most part the waitstaff was pretty friendly and accommodating. Although we had asked if it was too late to cancel two of the remaining plates and was told it was too late, which is understandable. However, we could hear our waiter complaining to another employee about it so I thought that was a bit rude. The restaurant has a pretty romantic atmosphere and would be great for a date."

  • "Discovered this place when we were given a gift card last year and we've been going back a lot. Mostly tapas, some entrees, nice selection, good service, food consistently good."

  • "One of the best small plates option for vegetarians. Delicious food. All items, except the chickpea sticks, are excellent. And the try one of each veg item for $75 flat fee is a great deal as well. Excellent drinks. We found this restaurant by luck when two other regular spots were booked solid. Glad we looked on Open Table!"

  • "Very small, but super cute.. Food and drinks were delish but a lil pricey.. Love the tables that are by the open window.. Went for a cousin's birthday dinner and will definitely return for happy hour and with the bf. "

  • "We went for our anniversary in May and our son (26) recommended to us, he had his finance's bd party there in April - we loved it just as much as they did. We felt great we sat in the front window that opened to the street and relaxed, laughed, and ate...Lobster mac & cheese is awesome.... We will go again and again...."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed the seafood paella for two...beautifully seasoned and prepared, it was loaded with wonderful variety of seafood. We look forward to returning and trying many of the delicious-sounding tapas. Ambiance was a little cool for our tastes, but the food was so good, that didn't matter to us."

  • "This was one of the only restaurants left with an open table for 6 when I went to book it 2 weeks or so before dinner. I always get annoyed when restaurants make you hold a table with a credit card. The food was fine and the wine was good. Some of the tapas we got were fried which was unexpected. They were still good but... Also, my husband is tall and the chairs had short backs so it wasn't the most comfortable for him but other then that it was fine. "

  • "My family and I ate at this restaurant before an event in the city. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had hit traffic on the way and called to say we were running late but they were very accommodating. The wine and the food were spectacular; I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Bistro-type atmosphere. Friendly, attentive service. The food was delicious, nicely presented, interesting. Perhaps a bit slow to bring dessert, but that's a minor quibble. Good place to eat before a show on Broad Street. Would definitely go back."

  • "Tapas is always fun and Valanni made it fun a delicious. The loud music was a bit much for my friend and me (we're in our mid 40's) but I'm sure it's appreciated by folks who are younger and/or more there to party. The bridal party across the way from us seemed to be having a great time. Loved the polenta with pesto, brussel sprouts, and grilled caesar salad, not to mention the tasty (if a bit sweet) cocktails. "

  • "I took my mom here for a Mother's Day dinner and it was excellent!!! Our waitress seated us in a quiet corner knowing that it was just the 2 of us. She made excellent recommendations about the tapas menus. I recommend the grilled romaine salad it is huge! The baked brie tapas was also excellent :) "

  • "Great flavors and generous portions for small plated. Flatbreads were amazingly good. Tables are right up against the bar, which makes talking next to impossible if there are loud patrons at the bar."

  • "Pouched eggs with crab sauce are not to be missed and neither are Lobster Eggs Benedict."

  • "I went here to refuel after the Broad Street Run. The food was incredible! We got butter poached lobster over a cheddar bacon waffle, lump crab eggs Benedict, and a Kobe beef burger, all of which were delicious. The wine we had was very very good. We definitely didn't try and play it cheap, but the check was very reasonable for a party of four. My only negative comment was that everybody in my party agreed that the seating hostess was a little bit snide. She just didn't give a very good first impression of the actually fantastic level of service at Valanni."

  • "cool spot, good music, good food. Music was a little too loud but my date and I still enjoyed everything else."
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "It was a great spot for a late dinner for two but we made reservations well in advance and got seated at a tiny table right at the front of the restaurant right next to the entry. Hostesses were snobby and unpleasant but our server was great. Love the decor and the music and lighting but would only be interested in going if we sat in the lounge side. "

  • "We went on Thursday night and were surprised to be greeted with a DJ playing very loud electronica (I think, I'm still into 1970's rock). Turns out this happens on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights. Fortunately for those who want to have a real conversation, they have a back room where the music is bearable. Unfortunately one of our guests couldn't get past the front door & refused to join us. Too bad for him because the food & service were very good. The tapas choices offer lots of variety & make it possible to eat as much or as little as you like. Despite the music, I would go back, though I would specify the back room, which is too bad because the front has lovely big windows that can be opened on good weather days."
