This restaurant looked great on
the usual online sources and has a good reputation, so we tried it. The food was inconsistent at best, certainly not what I would expect for a place with this reputation (and price). The scallops were overcooked, and our steak frites arrived cold. On the other hand, bacon-wrapped dates were divine, and the fish and pasta specials were wonderful. Staff were friendly and attentive. Bottom line: Overpriced. Order the specials."

The food has generally been good
and is presented well. V's is a little more upscale in its food choices and preparation for this area and make's it an especially good place for special occasions. Over the years we have been pleased with the food and its quality. This visit there were four of us and unfortunately my dinner was not up to par. I ordered the scallops and should have considered that our visit was midweek after the restaurant had been closed for two days, the scallops were not fresh and had an off taste to them. While we had a very pleasant evening, it was made especially nice by our waitress who was outstanding. The other issue was the chatter coming from the kitchen while we dined."

Came to visit Murphy's and V was
recommened by several of the shop owners. FABULOUS. So glad my girlfriend and I stopped in for the cabbage and pork soup. It was delicious for cold winter day. Wine was supurb and the champagne kept flowing. Can't wait to come back to California to hit up this restaurant again!"

We booked the lunch, came to the
place - and learnt that there was no lunch in the restaurant. Only in the bar! which was overcrowded inside and out. Ruth saved us - she honored our reservation, and took us to the empty restaurant (next door) . We had great food (flatbread with wild mushrooms, caesar salad, tea), a fresh rose on the table and very quiet environment. Thanks to Ruth!"

Ambience was great! Service was
not great, typical of Murphys though. No vegetarian option for entree at all. Wanted us to leave the restaurant and go next door to get a vegetarian option even though food comes from same kitchen. Told us it was a separate kitchen but eating next door next night confirmed this was not true. Would recommend it to my non-vegetarian friends but not to vegetarians. We stayed because it was our special occasion and loved the atmosphere."

We had a wonderful dinner- food
was amazing, but it did take a very long time- although we were happy to be enjoying a special occasion out! Thanks!"

The V is a restaurant that equals
an experience in San Francisco but with the Murphy,s California ambiance. Scott the bartender makes you feel welcome even if it's your first time I t was great to see Lauran again!!"

We have eaten at V Restaurant
before but in January we were not as impressed. We brought our own wine and the server didn't even once pour it for us. It took her 20 minutes to take our order and a full hour before we were served dinner...not once did she apologize for the delay...if we had been really hungry we would have been pretty upset...no bread was served before the meal. I think they were probably understaffed."
Dined on 1/3/2014
The food couldn't have been
better: Master Chef quality, including the artistic presentation."

We had the 4 course Christmas Eve
meal (soup, salad, prime rib, and dessert). Every course was truly delicious -- tender and tasty prime rib and the Caesar Salad was so good even my teenage son who doesn't like salads ate all of his. Since my kids didn't want the bread pudding dessert (which I enjoyed) they brought them the housemade ice cream which was creamy and delicious. All four of us left very full and pleased. It was our second year going there for Christmas Eve dinner and we will be back."

We were very pleased to find this
fine restaurant in a small Gold Country Town. Very nice dinner with good service! All this at a reasonable price.. Probably the best place around for miles!"

My wife and I ate dinner here
while visiting Murhpy's. The food, service and bartender were outstanding. We had reservations at 7:30 on a Friday. The table was not quite ready when we got there. The hostess apologized and sat us at the bar for a drink. The bartender made our drinks to perfection; Lemon Drop & Margarita on the rocks. We were wined out after touring the Main St. wineries that day. We got seated shortly after our drinks were ready. Our server was very courteous and attentive throughout dinner. We each ordered specials; Filet Mignon tips stuffed Cannelloni & Escolar (substitute for the Halibut they were out of). We could have split a salad, they were pretty big. We highly recommend dining here for couples night out."

My daughter was proposed to at
your beautiful restaurant on Friday night. Enjoyed all the fun cocktails and wonderful food. Great memories at the V!!!"
Dined on 11/8/2013
Awesome meal, perfectly prepared,
but service was ridiculously slow. 3 hours for a glass of wine,an entree and one dessert. Server was very apologetic but it really detracted from the meal, esp when neighboring diners came....and went. If you can deal with the time between courses, I'd recommend it for the food alone, but prepare yourself!"
Dined on 11/9/2013
We were set outside now others in
the area. Service very slow had first course was ok. Drinks good. had to wait 1 1/2 for entrée so we left paid what we owed for the first part of the meal. We will never return to this over rated restaurants. This only for locals out of towner's are pushed to the back of the line!"

Caesar Salad was thea best Caesar
I'd ever had. My husband had the yellowfin tuna tartar salad and he really liked his, too. We planned to have the Halibut for dinner but they were out of it. They had 2 fish options, swordfish and salmon. There was some confusion regarding the source of the salmon, i.e. Atlantic or Pacific. We went with the swordfish. It was done perfectfully. Moist and very flavorful. We were crazy about the pumpkin risotto. We loved the liquor (St. Germaine) sampling and numerous wine samplings. Wait staff was very attentive. Make sure you have a reservation. Numerous people where turned away. Overall, this is a restaurant we would return to."
Dined on 10/20/2013
The cheese plate appetizer was
terrific as was the Cesar salad. My entrée was outstanding, salmon on lentils with a garlic balsamic glaze. Loved the food! We sat in the bar area so we had some noise from that area and if the weather had been nicer I would have asked for outside seating."
Dined on 10/19/2013
It was a new menu, but the
waitress was very well versed in what everything was. The couple of things she dod not know she checked on right away. Very attentive. Ot was a very busy night after an event in town but the food and aervice were excellent. If you bring wine from a local winery you pay a $5 corkage fee. We took aome white wine over in the early afternoon and the chilled it for us. The only thing that wasn't so good was the pear crisp. The crisp part was great but the pears were not ripe enough (not much flavor) and they could have been cooked a bit more. I like the fruit in my crisp prett firm but not raw. I'll go back again"

The appetizers - a tempura
calamari and a tuna tartare were quite good, as were both the house and the Caesar salad. The main course menu is short and our pick, the steak frites, suffered from being over cooked - my rare was at best medium rare - and too much dominated by some stewed onions and an unnecessary sauce. The fries were just fine."
Dined on 9/19/2013
Hi - We thoroughly enjoyed V for
our 34th Anniversary! The food was fabulous, the Tuna Tartar (shared), Beet and Cheve Salad, delicious and my Bacon wrapped Filet - fabulous, my hubbies Caesar had the perfect Anchovy on top and Halibut terrific. The service by Mark, our Waiter, was very friendly and he provided an excellent experience even though he was the lone waiter for the evening! The outdoor porch table was perfect, weather was good too! We took our time and it was ok! The local wine corkage was only $5. nice!"

Outstanding service and great
food. We sat outside and it was very comfortable. Wonderful way to spend an evening in Murphys with good friends."

When you go to a restaurant for
the first time there are always two things that worry me, the abuse of garlic that kills the taste of real food and inflated wine list. The food at V is amazing, the real flavors come out and they plates are presented greatly and served in a timely manner. Their wine list is a selection of the best local wineries, and almost no price increase. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody that wants to enjoy a great evening."
Dined on 9/1/2013
V's offered a fun (and delicious)
cocktail menu, good table wines, and delicious food. The menu options were interesting; the server was fun and accommodating. I am gluten-free and had several options available. This restaurant is consistently on the top of our list in this charming weekend get-away community."

We enjoyed a very nice evening
dining outside on a warm evening. Super friendly service. It was a popular choice in Murphys on a Tuesday night . . . active scene."

What a great find! Practically the
only restaurant on OpenTable.com that you can make a reservation for and I am grateful that I did. The food was so good I had to meet the chef and it was an honor! My girlfriend and I will definitely be coming back in the future and everything from the complimentary bread to the food that we ordered was cooked to perfection!"

This was our second time dining At
V. We had dined here a few months before. Both times the service was good and the meal enjoyable. When the small dining area is full , the room is loud. This does not distract from the dining experience here though. We found the cocktails uneven -one time they would be good and the next okay. The wine list is good. The deserts were good. We will certainly return."

We are in the Sierra foothills
from time to time, and whenever we are we try to make it to "V" restaurant in Murphys. Just as the town of Murphys has become a destination for a lot of folks (and rightly so), for us it has become even more so because of "V" . A beautiful room just off the main street, with great food. We live in San Francisco, so we know good restaurants; "V" could easily stand up to any of them."

We found this place walking around
Murphy's while on vacation, and had lunch at their Bistro. Based on that we decided to reserve dinner four ourselves. The ingredients are fresh and, I expect, locally sourced whenever possible: we started with three salads (Caeser, Roasted Beet, Seared Ahi) and all were flavorful. Entrees were fresh papardelle with spinach and cheese, seared scallop risotto and pan-roasted chicken. The preparation emphasizes the flavors of the food rather than trying to mask it, even the Caeser with its strong dressing did not overshadow the sweetness of the romaine hearts. Presentation was outstanding in all cases, and the service was attentive without being intrusive."

Service was wonderful and food was
delicious. We would love to return."

We celebrated our anniversary with
dinner at V. I had the pork-belly-wrapped filet and followed it with a peanut butter creme brulee. Absolutely outstanding. My wife had the pan-seared halibut and chocolate souffle - also delicious. Polite staff, good ambiance. They even comped one of our deserts for our anniversary! Loved the whole evening."

This was our second time at V.
This was our 50th wedding anniversary (no we did not tell anyone) and we enjoyed it tremendously. Our waiter was fantastic, we liked the laid back slow pace of the dinner. That is our kind of dining. If we wanted our food brought fast we would have gone to a fast food restaurant. It was an enjoyable evning."
Dined on 7/7/2013
Delicious menu. Wonderful service.
They gave my husband and I complimentary champagne as it was our anniversary. Very, nice spot."
Dined on 6/13/2013
We have celebrated many special
occasions at V...anniversaries, birthdays and, most recently, my son's graduation dinner. There is always something new & yummy on the menu and we never leave disappointed."
Dined on 6/8/2013
Located below the B&B Victoria Inn
just off the main street is the restaurant. It caught my eye initially as it looks very inviting from the outside at night.. Dining can be outside on the porch or inside. Both are nice. Pre-dinner mixed drinks were great.. The wine with the dinner was great. The wine list is not long , but adequate. The entrees were very enjoyable. The desert a nice end to a tasty meal. The service was good, We will definitely return."
Dined on 5/26/2013
We have tried this place a couple
times, and both times the food was terrible. The last time we ate there my husband got food poisoning. The service was excellent and the bartender was great. We would only go back maybe for a drink, but will never eat there again unless major changes in the cooking staff."
Dined on 5/17/2013
We celebrated a 50th birthday and
a 34th anniversary (4 of us) and had a great time. The food was spectacular. Best I've had in a long long time. Service was great. Absolutely no complaints and will return next time I'm in Murphys."

Tucked away outdoor dining,
service was great and the food was wonderful. Great place for special occasion."
Dined on 3/30/2013
Maybe the best Hors D'oeuvres menu
I have ever encountered. Every time we have eaten there (3-4 per year), we have discovered unique combos of flavor. This time it was a fig stuffed with bleu cheese wrapped in bacon that was flash deep fried. Amazing experience biting it to the little morsel."
Dined on 3/29/2013
We have been to the V multiple
times and it always maintains a high standard. I have hearing difficulties so this is a great place to be! The best restaurant in the area."
Dined on 3/28/2013
Had dinner here for the first time
on a very busy St. Patricks Day weekend - when the town of Murphy's is really crowded. Our waitress was very attentive and her service was excellent. The food was very slow coming out - and was barely warm when it arrived at our table. The portions were just right and the items (lamb chops and scallops) were very delictable, and the side of veggies was even better. We had to ask for bread to go with dinner - unusual for a resturant of this caliber. The entire experience was very average, and a bit disappointing given the great things we've heard about the "V". Perhaps we'll give it another try on a weekend that is not so busy."
