A word from Uva Trattoria - Napa
Established in 1999, Uva Trattoria has been a local favorite for over thirteen years. The extensive menu, of Regional Italian cuisine, specializes in homemade pastas and pizzas. The lively bar has a creative cocktail list with a wine list of both California and Italian wines, specializing in local Napa Valley wines.
Uva is owned and operated by Napa native Aaron Diaz who spent 19 plus years under the tutelage of legendary restaurateur Donna and Giovanni Scala. Scala's guidance helped Diaz develop a deep passion for Italian cuisine, wine and culture where he shares the philosophy of "Less is more" with his Chef Marcos Ramirez.
Uva features live jazz, blues, big band and R&B, with no cover charge, Wednesday thru Sunday night . A feature making Uva one of the most popular restaurants in the Napa Valley.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was good. Our server was good, friendly, and efficient. The overall experience was slow, drinks were slow to arrive as was dinner and desert. Don't know what other tables ordered, but some tables in our area turned over 2x during our seating. Once again the food was good, our waitress was good, friendly and efficient. The experience will not keep us from returning."

  • "Our experience wasn't as positive as the average review for this restaurant. The service by our food server was very attentive. All our questions pertaining to menu items were patiently answered. Quality of food ranged from excellent to fair. One of 3 entrees ordered was delicious, the other 2 didn't quite meet expectations - flavor was a little uninspiring. The spinach salad was wonderful. The risotto balls appetizer was just OK. Like some other reviewers, we thought the portion size could have been larger. Our dining experience got off to a shaky start, as the hostess was rude and unprofessional. Given the abundance of fine restaurants in the Napa Valley to choose from, we are not in a hurry to return here."

  • "RJ our server was AMAZING. He made sure very thjng I had was Gluten Free. He was attentive, friendly and made great suggestions. We went back the next night because UVA was great."

  • "We stumbled upon this from a general search for food. We made reservations and got in before the rush. The food was fresh but didn't take an exaggerated amount of time to come out. The cocktails were amazing and unique in flavor. We will definitely go back."

  • "I found this restaurant online and was very pleased. It was easy to find and the food was great. Being Calabrese Italian, I thoroughly enjoyed the authenticity of the menu. Unfortunately, we had too much wine during the day and didn't make it for the music. Next time I look forward to hearing the tunes."

  • "This place has an outstanding chef. Dishes are balanced, flavorful, with fresh ingredients, and simply delicious! Notable dishes include the gnocchi in gargonzola sauce, garlic bread, and Brie French Fries. I'm sure there are other fine choices others would recommend but these are my favorites. In terms of ambience, not the most romantic spot in the area, though you could certainly have a nice evening out with your significant other if you request their side room away from the bigger groups and live music near the bar. Our waitstaff was attentive and prompt without being overbearing. Prices were very reasonable, especially for Napa. Our check came to about $60 for an app, two mains, one dessert. Overall a gem and certainly worth a try!"

  • "Made reservations but our table wasn't t ready til about a 1/2 hour later. Without the music is it very very loud. But as soon as the music starts, you forget about the background noise. The band was good, and even better with the singer. Food was ok. The best was the blueberry cheesecake. We were pleasantly impressed with the music. Not so much for the food."

  • "I have been to Uva twice now and I had the Bolognese both times. I don't get too Napa often and it was soo good the first time I had to get it again. I am a huge fan of Bolognese. I traveled around Italy eating it and this is the best one I've had in a restaurant state side. Multiple people at our table had it and they all agreed that it was fantastic. My dad had the chicken fettuccine and it was very good as well. The live music was GREAT both times we have been here. Overall, this is a very nice casual place to have good Italian food and great music."

  • "Nothing too special. Felt the prices were a little high for typical Napa cuisine. The names of the dishes were nicer than the taste. Would eat here again but not for a special occasion...we went for a bachelorette party dinner and we're expecting a little more."

  • "I took a good friend and her children here for her birthday celebration. We enjoyed excellent Italian food, and there was live music playing. A cute little girl was dancing ( surprisingly good ballet technique). We all had a fun time."

  • "We had a minot glitch with the dessert taking too long. The important thing is how it was handled when we complained. The waiter and staff went out of their way to make it right. The food was excellent too"

  • "Great gnocchi (one of the best I've ever had), service was friendly and professional. WILL BE BACK SOON"

  • "Had a great evening that began at the bar with a Moscow Mule (refreshing)!! The place was packed and a great band was playing some jazzy tunes! Started off with bruscetta (did I spell that correctly?), side salad of greens and one of the specials, a pasta with spinach, mushrooms and an awesome sauce of white wine and olive oil. To finish? Vanilla gelato and coffee. I over simplify.. I'm not a practiced reviewer, but had to shout out some props for this lively restaurant that's tucked away in a corner off Main Street!"

  • "The food was very satisfactory, but nothing outstanding. My penne was simply okay. My husband however loved his gnocchi. That was offset by the fact that my friend found "something" in her salad. Some many outstanding restaurants in Napa I wouldn't necessarily feel the need to go back."

  • "Best appetizer - fried calamari! ! Good salads! Good menu. Could be expanded. Good bread! AWESOME BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE. Service ciuld be better especially when its busy!! Came there esp. Because of JAZZ! ABSOLUTE MUST!"

  • "Some good and some great reviews so we decided to check it out. Not over the top Italian cuisine but exactly what to expect at a Trattoria and we loved it. Lots of locals and great energy, it seems that the staff knows everyone, service was always very attentive. Great Job Uva, we will be back next month with friends and family..."

  • "the food has gone downhill. We've been there several times in the past and were disappointed. Serving veal scallopini on a pile of spagetti with mediocre sauce is not a gourmet delight."

  • "We dine in Napa frequently and have visited most of the same restaurants again and again. This was our first visit to Uva and we had a great time. The food is good but the atmosphere is great. The homemade pasta and sauce was excellent. Great jazz music on the Saturday we were there and staff was very good! We will definitely re-visit Uva soon! CT"

  • "The food was less than average. The server forgot my salad. On a positive, the gluten free pasta was very good. The best was the live jazz group."

  • "....UVA is always good...went wth friends in the evening for drinks/live jazz/light meal....pizza is tasty/good flavors....calamari includes shrimp & onions/very delicious with nice dipping sauce...beet salad very good. Service is good. We shall return!"

  • "The menu was surprisingly limited for an Italian restaurant. The Ceasar salad wasdisappointing, missing the flavors of garlic, lemon or anchovy (all key to a Ceasar salad). The lettuce was pale and limp, the innermost leaves were used. We ordered a half dozen oysters and they were extemely small. Unfortunately, one was put on the plate that was either extremely small or partially not included, as it was the size of a pea (literally). For $2.75 each, this should not have been served. The server was accomodating and replaced it upon request. The flavors of the seafood lasagna my husband ordered was rich and hearty. My seared scallop salad was a very small portion, more like an appetizer, but flavorful."

  • "Ordered a chicken sandwich and my husband had a hamburger. The dishes were unimpressive but they were adequate after a nice round of golf on Valentine's day. Would not make the trip from the Bay Area again for this mediocre meal."

  • "My wife and I live in Sacramento and chose Uva Trattoria for the live blues/jazz music and "local flavor" of Italian food vs. a chain restaurant. We were NOT disappointed! The atmosphere was fun, lively, and romantic with a friendly, neighborhood feel. Our hostess was personable with prompt customer service. Our server was excellent (RJ was very attentive and efficient). The food and wine were delicious and priced well! Can't wait to go back."

  • "I came to Uva on V-day this year with my fiance and we both loved it. We had seafood entrees and they were delicious. We will definitely be going back, and not just for special occasions."

  • "Great table service, I am not into wine so did not look at the wine list. Price seemed very reasonable to me. We had a surf n turf and it was cooked to perfection! I could not have been happier. Will definitely go back."

  • "Okay so this is a great place for a little dinner with friends or a romantic night out! Best butternut squash ravolis in brown butter sauce with toasted almonds ever! Great Caesar salad, great pizza. Delicious chicken with mushroom fettuccini dish - they even had a GLUTEN-free pasta option for $3 more! Loved it! Will definitely be back."

  • "I reserved a table two weeks in advance thinking we would get a good table but that was not the case. It was as if we were a walk in and the host just shoved us in the back. I mentioned to the host that i wanted a table near the live music and she said well you didnt mentioned that in your reservations."

  • "Great place we will be back. The Jack Palmer Trio was perfect music for the evening. Food and service were excellent."
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "The ambience is cold and stark. The menu was very limited and three out of four of us orded pizza's because we could find anything else that sounded good. The host keep us waiting for a table and then sat us at a table that was vacant the whole time we were waiting. This table was also right next to bar. We are locals and would not go back to this restaurant."

  • "Band was great. Caesar was okay, pasta was tasty, Nutella bread pudding was delish, tho not typical style."

  • "We started with the spinach and beet salads; delicious and large enough that we could have split just one. I ordered herb-rubbed roasted chicken on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Excellent flavors. My friend had a salmon filet in Putenesca sauce over penne pasta and loved it. We split the Tiramisu - a generous nummy portion! Service was great. There was a really wonderful musical group - Trio Soleá - flamenco guitarists playing Latin rhythms, interpreting everything from La Dueña to A Taste of Honey in their own style. Worth coming just for the music! Uva has live music; a different group each night from Wednesdays to Sundays. There are many fine Napa restaurants, but I will return to Uva Trattoria every time!"

  • "Somewhat of a disappointment - Food was nothing special, but obviously this is a favourite with the locals as the prices are reasonable and there is an easy ambiance. What was billed as a four person jazz and easy listening band ended out to be three - but their selections were good despite being played with very little enthusiasm. Service was adequate. All in all just not the evening that I was hoping for."

  • "My boyfriend and I came here for dinner during our 3 year anniversary getaway. It is near the water, food looked yummy, and I love Italian. The ambiance was amazing! Low lights and musician playing subtle guitar in the background was really pleasant. The wine was also good. However the food was less than impressive. The chicken was dry and my pasta plate tasted so bland. The service was excellent at first though our server was a little unenthusiastic. However after it started to get busy (around 815) we were waiting forever to get our check. Overall I don't regret going here because it was still a really nice atmosphere, but just be careful with your food choices and maybe try to go between 6 and 8 pm for dinner."

  • "Our group was visiting Napa for the New Year's week. The food and service was over the top. The restaurant was very busy due to New Year's Eve - and not a thing was missed! Our highest recommendations on all fronts from the minute we entered the door till listening to the great band as we exited - every member of the staff was engaged. I have never been in a restaurant where the bus boy told me this was the best place he ever work and "loved working for the Owner". Thanks on behalf of our group."

  • "First I don't think they know if there a Mexican or Italian restaurant. But they market themselves as Italian. The drinks were measured popes to make you order more- blue cheese fries had way to much or to strong of a blue cheese-my Filet was burnt to the point it was crunchy and I ordered it medium- the waitress who was nothing special took it back for me, which was nice. the new filet was a little less burnt on the outside and cooked rare on the inside. I don't think they have a very good chef and the grill is way to hot. The atmosphere is lacking also in the place- supposed to have a live band but they did not start until after 8:30 which is quite late for dinner."
