  • "Good Mediterranean right in the 'hood. The food is always great and you can fill up on the appetizers and bread alone. They could use another waitress, especially when it gets crowded - and it always gets crowded."

  • "Restaurant is very small and its decor is not appealing; however food is quite good. Lunch special is prixe-fixe for $20 is well worth it. Large portions and very tasty."

  • "There are many Turkish choices on Second Avenue and if you haven't tried Uskudar please give it shot. We often take friends and guest here because the food is consistently good and we can have conversation without shouting. Wines are reasonable there is a family feel to the very capable service staff. The mezes are particularly good and so is the quail entrée. "

  • "This restaurant was good. Definitely try the rice. However, the chicken shish was a little dry. If you are looking for a corner spot to try a new food and don't mind a small restaurant, try this. If you are looking for something grand, this is not the place. Also, the service is really quite average."

  • "The food and service are terrific. Never a disappointment. This is a small restaurant and in the winter it can get cold if your seat is near the door. They have a two door system but unfortunately people are not considerate enough when they enter or leave to make sure that at least one of the doors is closed at all times."

  • "We were a party of 4 and all of us had been to Ushkudar before. We love the home style Turkish cooking, the cozy atmosphere and the friendly efficient service. We all look forward to going back."

  • "A distinguished colleague was visiting New York and we arranged to have lunch together. He was staying in the Upper East Side so I did a little research and found Uskudar, where I have eaten in the distant past. There's a wonderful prix-fixe lunch menu. I had Manti, succulent little dumplings filled with a bit of lamb meat and bathed in yogurt sauce. The Hummus was excellent, and the bread with it was crusty and tasty. I can't wait until the Second Avenue Subway is done ... it will make getting here quicker and easier :-)"

  • "A tiny restaurant nestled in the midst of the Second Avenue subway construction. Ignore the hubbub, come by public transportation or walk over and concentrate on the fine service and food. Excellent appetizers including basics such as humus and a fine eggplant (a delicious smoky taste) as well as a spinach and yogurt dip which is yummy! Main course plates are ample and a selection of daily specials are interesting --- ask the servers for recommendations. Serviceable wine list and beer including Turkish varieties."

  • "Have eaten at Uskudar numerous times and find that both off the regular menu and with specials that the preparation and presentation of meals / most importantly the flavors are very good. A small, but cozy restaurant (seats about 25) is well worth a visit."

  • "Tried Uskudar because I was looking for something besides Italian. The room is small but the staff was very nice. The food was excellent. We started with the Dolma and the Mucver zucchini pancake. The yogurt that came with the pancakes was the best I've ever had. Additionally, we had the special lamb chops and the Hunkar Begendi. Both were flavorful and tender. The problem came at the end of dinner. We were done eating and it took 25 minutes to get them to bring the check, which we had to ask for, as they hung out in the back talking. (We could see them) This was poor management on their part as they had people waiting to be seated. So getting in may take awhile. Would possibly go back. Though I was wondering why they got an NYC B rating!"

  • "Although I received an email confirming my reservation (made through Open Table) at Uskudar, when we arrived, traveling from the other side of town, we were told the restaurant was "full" and that their computer had been out of order so they hadn't registered my reservation till it was too late. I was told also that someone from the restaurant had tried to call me. However, I received no message on either my cell phone or land line. It's a nice restaurant -- I know that from previous experience -- but I won't be going back any time soon."

  • "We were recently in Turkey, where we loved the food, and when visiting New York we wanted to find a Turkish restaurant. Uskudar was the perfect one for us. It's a small, intimate restaurant. The food is great and the servers were attentive and fun to talk to. We've been back a couple of times and will return next time we're in New York."

  • "We have been to Uskudar before and enjoyed it. We arrived hungry and while the staff was lovely, the food was good, just not as great as we had remembered. Nothing specific to point to, jusk ok."

  • "The food was pretty good, but the staff hover too much. i later discovered why...they overbooked, and wanted us to order and eat quickly so that they could have the table for an 8:30 party. good thing we were almost done, or they'd be SOL. they weren't overly rude about having us get up when they realised we weren't ordering anything else, just enjoying the last of our meal, and chatting, but i still found it off-putting to be asked to hurry up cause they didn't get their own scheduling correct. will NOT be going back."

  • "Food and service are good. It's not worth a long journey in the hope of a revelatory meal, but if you're in the neighborhood and are interested in Turkish cuisine, Uksudar is a nice choice."

  • "Uskudar is one of the best restaurants in New York City. The food is outstanding - every dish is prepared with care at the time it is ordered and the flavors are just spectacular. The service is kind, courteous, friendly, and incredibly attentive. When I booked my reservation on Open Table, I requested a particular dish. As soon as we walked in, the gentleman waiting on us mentioned that he had personally read my note and had the dish prepared for me. I can't say enough about Uskudar and recommend it highly to anyone looking for authentic, first rate Turkish cuisine."

  • "We had a very nice pre-museum lunch and enjoyed what is a different cuisine for us. Turkish coffee is amazing, I could have had cup after cup, although I wouldn't ever sleep again. The service was pleasant; our waiter charming and efficient. We each had a different lamb dish and each was unique with subtle flavors. I very much appreciated the pureed eggplant under my lamb bites. The dining room had a comfortable neighborhood feeling, filled with families as well as couples and friends."

  • "One of my friends recommending coming here to try out the Turkish food. It was quite delicious! The menu is short but simple. I would definitely come here again! Just a caveat, don't come here if you don't like the taste of lamb. My girlfriend ordered a chicken dish but since they cook all the food close to each other, it picked up a hint of lamb taste to it."
