A word from Ursino
The name Ursino was inspired by the rich history of the colonial era Liberty Hall Estate (previously called Ursino), located on what is now part of the Kean University campus. The estate boasts a 4.5 acre farm, from which we harvest many of the ingredients used on our menu. Chef Peter Turso and his staff use these ingredients to create a menu that embraces Modern American cuisine. We also support local producers as much as possible; not only in our menu selections, but in our wine, beer and cocktail offerings too.
Our goal is to provide a memorable, quality dining experience for every guest that arrives at our door. With knowledgeable and attentive service, along with expertly prepared food second to none, we aspire to be considered by our guests as one of the top restaurants in New Jersey.

The lighting was a bit bright for the tables that were under the part of the dining room with high ceiling. Drinks took a little long to arrive and food was good but didn't think the strip steak was worth the price. Wine was excellent and the corn appetizer was delicious.

We had an early Tuesday night reservation, but there were never more than 5 tables! It made for very quiet and attentive dinning. The heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella was lost under a sea of foam and could have used more tomatoes and less cheese. The tuna was delicious. The apple crisp was wonderful, but could have been an entry. A small portion would be better appreciated.

My husband and I went for a date night dinner. It had been recommended by a friend who is a chef. We found the food fantastic and the service excellent. It is a cool modern interior with comfortable seating and well spaced. The wait staff were very attentive and the meal was served well spaced but without long waits. The agility is amazing. I also loved the halibut and the duck was good but not as crispy as others we have had. The cookies and cream dessert was amazing! There is a cool private wine cellar like room for a small party which looks really cool. Highly recommend for couples or groups.

Dinner at Ursino was excellent! First off the crowd at 6pm on a Friday was very light. We were the only ones there until about 7pm when a few other people started arriving. Our waiter was great, filling our cups of water whenever it was halfway full or less and made great recommendations of the food menu. The food was excellent! Our salmon and trout were prepared very well as well as our appetizers. The restaurant has beautiful decor and a great view of a pond and fountain. The location of the restaurant is a bit strange being located in a building attached to a Kean University academic building. Overall our dining experience was great and I would definitely come back!

While the food was outstanding, the portions were the smallest I have ever seen or eaten. My tomato Bisque was roughly 2/3 of a white small porcelain pitcher that would be used for milk or cream for coffee. I would estimate that the soup itself was about 2 tablespoons once poured in a bowl. I was charged $15.00 for that appetizer. My wife’s halibut was absolutely excellent for the tiny portion. For this small size woman, it was adequate, but would make the average male look for something in a fast food store to fill that nagging void that the lack of food leaves. The wine list is lacking in quality with too many new vintages. My duck was a descent portion, but did not come near the medium well I ordered. I sent it back. Bloody

Only a few simple signs on Morris Avenue in Union NJ give away the location of this superb fine dining spot tucked away on the campus of Kean University. I brought my wife there for her birthday dinner and the food did not disappoint. We had the chefs tasting menu which consisted of our choice of two appetizers, two entrees and a dessert. The portions were slightly smaller than their a la carte versions, but they were delicious and satisfying. The crispy pork belly in Hoisin sauce appetizer was melt in your mouth and unctuous. The duck was perfectly done-- -crispy skin and tender in the center. While the service was a bit formal, the staff was polite and responsive. Book your reservation now before the world discovers this marvelous place.

I always enjoy having dinner at Ursino. The food is fresh and the menu changes with the seasons. With my food allergies, the waiters always take time to explain what's in each dish and whenever they are unsure, they always verify with the kitchen. It's a pleasure to have dinner at Ursino.

There was a mix of good and mediocre reviews, so we were unsure of what we would experience, but I have wanted to try Ursino since I first heard of it. The menu seemed a bit limited, but we were very pleased with what we ordered, the food quantity, and the service. Each dish had a slightly unusual combination of ingredients that enhanced the main element. For example, I never had a Japanese turnip before, but it went very nicely with the duck, and the tamarind sauce unified the dish. And the blueberry souffle was perfection. I was looking for the ultimate chocolate dessert, which was not there, but the souffle left us completely satisfied. The server was excellent, just friendly enough, quite knowledgeable, and present as necessary.

Went to Ursino on Saturday 8/9. When we got there we decided to sit in the bar area it had comfortable high table with booth. The place was pretty and the service was knowledgeable. In the lounge you can order from dining and lounge menu, which is nice. Making a decision was hard there were so many interesting things to choose. I ended up having the tomato bisque which was outstanding and my husband had smoked swordfish. For dinner we had the pork with peaches and cavatelli w/ smoked mozz and asparagus, it was so so good. Dessert we shared an almond shortbread cake w/ apricot and strawberries. Yummy. Everything was awesome and we will definitely come again. The restaurant has a changing menu but everything was fresh and flavorful.

Overpriced. Underportioned. Limited menu. Had a hard time finding something that sounded appetizing. Clashing décor, trying to be industrial-tech, loud fifties, clashing wall colors. Service was outstanding. Highly personable waiter and waitstaff. Gnocci--OK Pork--good. Martinis were superb.

My boyfriend and I came on his birthday and ordered the tasting menu. The food was fantastic- no complaints here! They even gave us an extra course which was well appreciated.a The service wasn't bad, our waiter was caught up a few times but he apologized and did his best to serve us. Some of the courses took some time in between but we were not in a rush so we barely noticed. Decor is great as well!

We were excited to eat at Ursino given positive reviews we've seen. Dinner started out promising with a delicious basket of warm bread, but that was sadly the highlight of our meal. The service was incredibly slow, with our entrees coming a full 20 minutes later than our neighboring table who had ordered AFTER we did with the same entree. When our meals finally did come, my husband's pork chop was dry from sitting out under the heat lamp. The kitchen prepared him a new entree, which was good, but at that point, we both ate our entrees alone as the timing was off. The server never even apologized or attempted to turn our meal around. The food was ok, but unimaginative given our expectations for the price.

We've been here before but this time we were very disappointed. Although tasty, the main entrees were small. There were no sides to order with the meal and my family of men left hungry. The last time we were here, the service was awesome and attentive. The waiter disappeared and never came back to see if we wanted refills on coffee. Maybe they were shorthanded because it was a weeknight - I don't know. It didn't sit well with us because we love to eat at fine restaurants and we expected more - especially since they have such a good reputation.

My husband and I were surprised at the location at first, being on the Keane University campus. We learned that the owner does the catering for the University. The restaurant is beautiful, very modern without feeling cold. The food was amazing! So fresh and flavorful. It was lovely to look at, as well; colorful, and well-portioned. Our server was kind, quiet, prompt, available, and let us enjoy our time together respectfully. The entire backside of the restaurant is glass, looking out to a lovely lawn and patio area for dining al fresco. All in all, a truly wonderful find.

We had Ursino on our to-do list for about a year and finally made a reservation for a special occasion dinner earlier this week. The restaurant is sleek and attractive. Our server Zach, was charming and knowledgeable about the menu and drink options. The food was delicious, served beautifully and was enough to eat for one generous meal. They stress quality, bit quantity. No doggy bags went home, just very satisfied diners. The only criticism was the parking situation. It is down a hill and not very good for someone with a problem walking. Of course, they can be dropped off at the door. It's a problem when the driver is the one with the walking issue. I understand there is Valet parking on weekends but we were there on a week night.

The food at Ursino is very good, but a few lapses prevent a 5 star review. My husband has a dairy allergy and asked that our shared salad be prepared without the yogurt topping. The salad came with yogurt on the side but also on the salad, He ate around it but could not fully enjoy the course. He asked that his salmon be well-done. It was visibly under-done. This would be undesirable at a less pricey, less food-centric restaurant, but the kitchen's (or server's) lack of precision is not really understandable here. Also, it should not be necessary to request refills on water, and the failure to offer more coffee during dessert is not top-drawer service. All said, it was a good meal and I would give it another try.

Very pretty grounds surrounding this well situated restaurant. From our table we could look at the lush grass and cascading water. Our service was great- seated and given menus immediately and within a few minutes our drink orders were taken. Within a timely manner, our food orders were taken and served. The bread was good but a little charred. The olive oil was quite well seasoned. The sandwiches were delicious but the sweet potatoes fries, that more resembled potatoe chips, were very greasy and several clumped together. One friend had a signature pizza- looked very good and enough to take home for another meal! One complaint- when we arrived we waited for a hostess to seat us over 10 mins- we finally went looking for anyone!!
