Diner Reviews
  • "Urban Fondue is wonderful! The service was fantastic, the food was amazing, and I had SO much fun. That was the best dining experience I've ever had!!"

  • "overall fantastic experience. the service was well informed, polite and prompt. And the food is unbelieveable. I look forward to returning. "

  • "I haven't been to a restaurant in a while that had such wonderful waiters. "

  • "We love going here for our anniversary and we have 3 years in a row! Also for our birthdays a couple of times. The food is excellent, we get great service, and isn't loud or crowded, even though it can be busy. The ambiance is great, and I just love the red wall with the candles! You never have to wait for your water to be refilled or get anything you need because the staff is so attentive. I work in retail and I notice customer service, and that's why we keep coming back to urban fondue instead of the melting pot!"

  • "and that is why you would be going there. My only complaint is that the cheese was not hot and could not be kept hot by the candles they placed it over. The actual taste of the cheese was excellent, even my 8 year old daughters liked it. The main course selections were really good but since they are giving you raw ingredients and you are cooking it yourself the broths are more important than the meats and fish.....they used sterno for this segment which did seem to keep the broths hot enough to cook the food through. The dessert was a hit and there is a good selection of fruit and pastries to dip in the chocolate and a wide variety of dessert theme fondues. This was a birthday and they gave my husband his own dessert plate, nice touch"

  • "I took my wife here for a date. This was actually our third time at Urban Fondue. The wait staff is outstanding and is very helpful and knowledgeable. The food is fantastic everytime we go. We had never had the desert before, but we did this last time, and all I can say is, make sure you save room. The Heath bar fondue was AMAZING!!"

  • "I bought the groupon only being here one time before. After a three hour dinner (experience) I left with a little food baby in my stomach. The food was amazing and the experience was even better."

  • "Many cheese fondues and desert fondues to choose from. Entrees are meat or tofu of your choosing with some tortelini and veggies. They give you a 3min timer for entrees, but many of the meats, such as shrimp, cook in less time and they suggested using timer on our personal cell phones. Every table was full and we still got our drinks within 5 min and started eating within 20min."

  • "This place is awesome. Went there on a groupon deal and was very impressed. Food was amazing and the waiters worked very hard on our three course meal!"

  • "The Brie and Gorgonzola , and the Port cheese fondue's were amazing, they up sold us sausage but honestly. It did not inspire me... The bread was the best. The main course ( steak and lobster for me) was so nice with the wide array of dipping sauces. The Dessert was the hazelnut dark chocolate fondue with cake and fruits for dipping.....YUM! Our waiter went out of his way at the reach turn to make sure we understood what everything was and that the presentation was properly done. Bravo Urban fondue"

  • "I feel that I should start this review by saying that we came in on the first beautiful day in Portland and it was slammed busy! Also we were using a groupon as was just about everyone in the place, so I will surely be going back again on a not so busy night! The food was fantastic! We got sooo much food with the deal we were using! Just a few negative points... One was we made a reservation at 7 and didn't get seated until after 730, we were told he was waiting for a booth for us and then we were sat in the middle of the restaurant. Also we weren't offered a second round of drinks until we were almost finished with our meal! But again the food was great and our server did a great job for the amount of volume they were dealing with!"

  • "We bought a Groupon and decided to try Urban Fondue during a recent weekend away. Unfortunately, our Groupon was not valid on Saturday night (best to read the fine print), but we decided to stay, and were glad we did. Our dinner experience was great, with fresh, good-tasting food and excellent service. We had a very enjoyable, relaxing meal. The portions were on the small side, but between the appetizer fondue (brie and Gorgonzola with bread), the protein main course, and the delicious chocolate/butterscotch dessert fondue, we definitely didn't leave hungry. Urban Fondue is a little pricier than places we usually eat, but the experience was worth the extra expense. Try something new and visit Urban Fondue for an enjoyable, tasty meal."

  • "I went with 3 other friends for a birthday celebration on a Friday night, the cheese fondue was very good! I would go again but would probably not do a dinner as the entrees were just a little confusing, while the broths and dips were very good they weren't labeled so it was a bit confusing as to what all was on the table. The chocolate fondue was also very good, it was a complimentary plate for the birthday girl which was very nice."

  • "We were given a gift certificate. From beginning to end, our two hour dining experience was fantastic. Have to get reservations because it's NOT a first come first serve restaurant. You're guaranteed a great spot to have fun ! Thanks Urban Fondue, Diana and Terry"

  • "My husband brought me here for a romantic/ celebratory date night dinner. We weren't sure what to expect because we were the only people there, but it was probably one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. We were seated immediately, the waitress (Who was running the bar and the restaurant pretty much single-handedly) was extremely attentive and friendly. She answered all of our questions and came to check on us often, her customer service was outstanding and the food was phenomenal! We will definitely be coming back and we will make sure to spread the word!"

  • "The food and service were fantastic. Used a Groupon and noticed no difference in service nor quality. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The only slight drawback was that the restaurant felt crowded and the booths, while comfy, felt close and the table was too small for everything that needed to be on it. We will return."

  • "the staff was very welcoming and had our reservation ready at a nice table in the front .noted the fact that it was my daughter's birthday. the cheese fondue was great, the service was fantastic, but we all determined that cooking raw meat for an hour was not our thing. the dessert fondue was also pretty good , but some of the ingredients for dipping were a little dry"

  • "Super good food. The three-course groupon meal was an adventure, as well as time consuming. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about all of the items on the menu and helped us make delicious decisions. I would highly recommend eating here (but maybe only with the groupon, because it's super expensive otherwise). The atmosphere is super chill and great for a romantic night out!"

  • "The fondue experience is a unique and fun night out. The cheese course and the desserts were the true highlights of the meal. I could have skipped the entree round. Service was a little slow, but overall friendly and informative."

  • "This was our first time here, but it definitely won't be our last. Ryan, our waiter, was wonderful--attentive but not intrusive, and very knowledgeable. His recommendations were spot on; the ruby port cheese fondue was incredible! We loved the wide variety of options on the menu--far more than at a certain chain fondue place. We plan to bring family and out-of-town guests here for a great experience."

  • "Friends had been telling us we needed to eat at Urban Fondue; so finally we were first time diners there. The service and food was just perfect. It was a bit noisy and sitting by the entrance was a bit distracting, but the overall experience was delicious."

  • "The staff at Urban Fondue was awesome...I added guests to my reservation and they were happy to accommodate telling me no problem at all. We sat at a large booth/table with pillowy seats and high backs. We were treated like VIPs. The service was great! The food was excellent, better even than I anticipated. We had 3 different cheese fondue appetizers and each was excellent. There were lots of main course choices and everyone was pleased. The desert fondues were amazing...we brought plenty home since there was so much food in the first two courses. I would highly recommend Urban Fondue for a cozy date night or a fun group outing."

  • "Forget that it's fondue - it's really good food in a super cozy, romantic setting. The cocktail list is outstanding! the choice of fondue type and dipping items is pretty big. And the wait staff are really friendly and attentive. Really enjoyed my experience here :)"

  • "We had a wonderful evening, enjoying each fondue course. We'll be back the next time we visit Portland."

  • "We had a group of 8 and sat at the back, raised table, which was great! We had wonderful service from our server Ryan and all the other staff who helped deliver food, take plates and bring us beverages. We had the three course meal and were delighted with the cheese fondues, the flexibility of the main course "you can basically have whatever you want" was our response from our server when we inquired about switching or substituting. By the desert fondue, we were bursting but having a great time. I loved it!"

  • "This was a fun spot to try for a date night. The restaurant is very nice - a bit cozier if you get a booth. Expect a bit of a wait, but the folks at Bartini took care of us until it was time. Our waiter was very attentive and explained everything to us, which is particularly necessary if you pick a seafood dish. The appetizer was amazing (Brie and gorgonzola) and the main course of Steak and Lobster with the urban yosenabe broth was really good. Dessert was delicious, but I was disappointed at the small amount of fresh fruit. Still cheesecake in chocolate - so delicious."

  • "Went for the fondue...was disappointed. The taste was good but the temps were iffy. Cheese got clumped up at the end and the chocolate was close to cold. I would prefer to pay the higher price at the Melting Pot...Guess I might be a fondue snob."

  • "Two of us had previously had fondue. Two of us had never been out for fondue. All four of us came away wanting to come back soon to Urban Fondue. The prices were excellent, the food was fantastic, and our server was very attentive and tried so hard to make our night wonderful. The Brie fondue was the best of the cheeses we tried - make sure you order the fruit sides for this one. The smoked Cheddar fondue was only second because one of them had to win! There was no cheese left in either pot! The main courses have so much variety all of us got what we wanted and were stuffed by the time we were done. The desserts were also excellent. We had the Chocolate Hazelnut and the Bananas Foster OMG not kidding I want to go back and try more"

  • "Amazing food, first experience at a fondue restaurant was excellent. Did their 3 course meal, started with brie/gorgonzola/hazelnut fondue then had the steak/lobster and seafood platter and finished with the rocky road chocolate fondue. Would definitely recommend this combination. The 8 sauces were the bosses!"

  • "Unique dining experience that takes fondue to a whole new level. A lot of fun. Different. Would definitely go back especially for cheese fondue and/or dessert."

  • "the quality of food was great. Be prepared to have a very rich meal if you opt for the 3 course offering. Cheese, Bread, Hollandaise, more cheese, and chocolate and cookie dough. A walk afterwards is definitely in order! It is fun to share and being interactive with your food makes it more personal."

  • "I am very disappointed I had reservation for 9:30 and was told I could go to bar for drinks while they get our table together so I did.I had to stand up @ bar unhappy and nobody ever came so we went over to restaurant and asked was out table ready he says no and we stood there looking at open tables that they were filling with walk ins. So we went back to bar and 2 different bar tenders went to check for our tables. They said are tables still wasn't ready so after they went over a waitress comes and says there still working on the table so we got tired of waiting so we went and set at a empty table. By the way me & my husband was the only African American there I feel Like they treated us so bad. After that I couldn't enjoy my dinner."

  • "I am not a big fan of fondue but i thought i would give it one more try and i am glad i went to Urban Fondue cause there fondue is amazing :). We got the fondue of the month cheese and it had Guinness beer in it and it was very delicious. Overall experience it was pretty good the only thing i don't like about it was the location i don't really care for downtown and the seats and tables are kinda close together but the food was so good i didn't really mind those things."

  • "If you've never fondued, this is definitely the best place in the area to try it! Our waitress was very informative and offered great suggestions. The quality of the meat was definitely above average and cooking it ourselves was quite fun, although it takes patience and some attention! Great for breaking the ice with that special someone or making it a large group experience."

  • "The food was wonderful, we took advantage of the "3 course meal" option - it was wonderful, convenient and economical. Our entire table agreed that Urban Fondue beats "Melting Pot" (another Portland area fondue restaurant) on food, price and atmosphere. Service was exceptional, they added 18% gratuity (party of 7) and earned it. Unfortunately we started with an hour wait before being seated for our reservation. Their challenge seemed particular to "over 6 people" groups as other reservations were all seated promptly as they arrived (which actually delayed our seating). Everyone forgot the wait, and enjoyed the food and service. We'll be back. I'll keep us to 6 or fewer people for each visit or we'll go elsewhere for bigger groups."
