Urban FarmerImpressive Brunch!One of... if not THE best brunch... I've eaten in downtown Portland. Amazing selection for both kids and adults. Very impressive! However, I wasn't a fan of the mixed drink I ordered. The waiter brought me a glass of Prosecco... which was outstanding. The food and service are truly exceptional, even to a foodie such as myself. The wait staff will go above and beyond to ensure a pleasureable dining experience, which included having a chef come out with my steak to carve it tableside.
My only complaint about this restauraunt is the fact that although the ceiling goes up cathedral style several stories, there still are no windows to the outside and it feels like you're in the middle of a hotel. (which you are) It can get a little loud and you lose out on a more intimate feeling. The food was of superior quality, and the service was very good overall. My only slight negative pertaining to service was that it took a bit long for our server to bring the check, but I suppose he was trying to give us ample time to talk.
I ordered the halibut which was cooked to perfection, and the twice-baked fingerling potato tart is NOT to be missed! I was too full for dessert this time around, but I will certainly be sure to save room on my next visit. Also, the decor and atmosphere contribute to a lovely dining experience suitable for any special occasion. The menu changes seasonally, and this time I tried the onion soup and the scallops. They were both wonderful. The scallops were served with poached quail eggs and morel mushrooms. Hands down, one of the best dinners I have ever had. My husband enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak and the twice baked fingerling potatoes. The waiter was friendly and helpful. He helped us choose a wine and it turned out to be a new favorite. We finished with the butterscotch brownie.....bam! So good! Urban Farmer will continue to be one of our favorites for a special night out.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service, Great FoodSome friends from New York and I went to Urban Farmer for dinner. We received terrific, friendly, knowledgeable service from both our server and the cheese expert, who came by our table to describe all of the restaurant's cheese offerings and their various flavors. Although the service was professional, it was also warm and fun. We had a great time laughing and chatting with the servers. With regards to the food, it was all delicious. I had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly. We ordered several side dishes to share. I highly recommend the creamed spinach, the macaroni and cheese, and the grits, which were the creamiest, most flavorful grits I've tasted since I lived in Virginia. I specifically requested a seat away from most diners so that we can have a quiet opportunity to connect. They put us in the fabulous spot in the restaurant. Customer service was truly outstanding. The star of the menu are the meat selections. So if you are vegan or vegetarian, this is probably not the best place for you to go. The meat selections are fantastic, expensive, but worth the price. The only thing I could critique the restaurant about is its ice cream. The ice cream there is overly sweet. My girlfriend and I both did not enjoy the taste of the ice cream. otherwise, we truly enjoyed our experience here. A coworker and I went for dinner while at a conference and shared a salad, steak, cauliflower, and the potato tart. We even had enough to feed 1 more person in leftovers.
The service was excellent. Definately some of the best service I've had in a very long time at a restraunt. The server was very knowledgable and friendly, he recommended a very good wine. We were seated in a cozy nook and the only thing I wish was different was to have gotten a bigger table. It felt a little crowded. Other than that it was great! We chose Urban Farmer because they offered a Buffet Brunch and we have enjoyed dining there on a number of occasions . The food has never been dissappointing. The service is always attentive and the setting is comfortable. I especially enjoy the semi private dining areas. You are not secluded, but conversation between two people or more can be held without the worry of disturbing other diners. Sunday's brunch was especially satisfying. The omelettes were fresh and made to order. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and the chicken sausage pattie with cranberries was a table favorite. The food is always so fresh and beautifully prepared. The service is always professional and friendly and low key. Everytime we come to Portland,we have to ensure that we eat here. We love it..Be prepared though the portions can be quite large. We brought an out-of-town visitor there for a special brunch experience. We had reservations and were seated in a more private part of the restaurant, which was really wonderful. We came back for the service, which is outstanding--friendly, not pretentious, and highly professional, and the food. We were disappointed the heirloom tomato salad was not on the menu (I understand it is a seasonal item). The vegetarian eggs benedict were delicious, but had a bit too much lime and the avocado was sour. The food was amazing. We were a pretty large group so I tasted several different items and all were fantastic. The english muffins are even homemade! The staff is exceptionally well equipped to make your visit most memorable. We had appetizers and dinner and there was nothing that was not exceptionally prepared and served. For our occasion our waiter took the liberty to provide a very special treat at the end of our meal. I would have ordered something but he did that for us and really took our visit "over the top".
