  • Entertainment: We have a VERY COMPLICATED "MINORS" POLICY. The minor policy can be read on our website. In essence, we are REQUIRED BY LAW to have advance notice that minors will be coming to dinner as it requires changing signage in the building and a "team meeting" for every minor on the property. For state liquor law / minor-posting compliance, minors are not allowed to be near the bar or at the pool tables unless their party has an entire room rented.
  • Special Events & Promotions: From wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners to reunions, teambuilding, company parties, client appreciation events, etc. We have AV stuff available at no charge and your group will never eat better.

  • Public Transit: On the 15 bus line, max stops by the MAC Club about 5 or 6 blocks away.
  • Parking: Private Lot
  • Parking Details: We offer free off street parking in the lot next door (between the bank and the cleaners) after 6pm and before 3am. There is always on-street parking on this end of NW 23rd Avenue during the evening. For events, we have access to up to 90 parking spaces a block away.
A word from Uptown Billiards Club
Seldom finding restaurant descriptions compelling, I'll tell you an Uptown-shaping story:

As a young assistant manager at a 5-star Caribbean resort 20 years ago, when $1000/night was unheard of, I asked the resort owner why each year we failed to make Conde Naste's "Gold List" despite being 100% booked a year in advance. He replied, "Because we don't have a pool; 25% of the score is based on a pool." I retorted, "You've got 30 acres-why don't you build one?" To which he replied, "Because if I built one everybody would use it!" I failed to see the logic. "And?" I asked. "Because people tend to do what they are most familiar with and in our case, they'll miss the beauty. If all they remember is the pool, they’ll find one closer to home next year. Here, their memories should be of (pointing) THAT sun setting over THAT Caribbean ocean with their toes in the sand. I’m not here to give people what they're familiar with, Kent, I'm here to provide something they'll never forget." Continued

My wife added the wine pairings to the meal and was in heaven."

  • "We went for the Hemingway 5 course meal with the wines. Tuna tartare with an oyster, slow cooked marlin with trout saffron risotto. Buffalo burger, filet on a puff pastry with two pates, and a chocolate dessert and an almond creme brûlée. All extremely good. Just the right amount of food. Small plates and every accompanying wine fit perfectly with the food. Uptown billiards should be on everyone's list for great food. It is also a good value."

The noise was deafening and we could not carry on a conversation at our table. This did not diminish our enjoyment of the food, but dramatically diminished our enjoyment of the dining experience."

Highlights for us were the second course of scallops with foie gras & the dessert of carrot cake, orange carrot ice cream, and an incredibly delicious carrot/ginger shooter. Much attention was paid to the presentation, which in most courses was beautiful and creative. Various shapes and sizes of serving dishes and drizzled sauces made the meal fun and full of surprises.   • "This was my second tasting. It was good but the Myers Lemon was better in my opinion. This time around, I had to keep my silverware for every serving which was a bit of a turn off. Service was a bit slow but our waitress was relatively new so I understood. Everyone was super friendly though, they always are! The music was too loud and I found myself struggling to have a conversation with my dear friend whom I hadn't seen in a long time. Aside form that, the food was good, I love the tastings and it's fun to have a variety of small plates and try different wines."

The pours were literally thimble size.One sip.Served ten minutes before each plate.We asked for a quarter glass per serving and offered to pay more.Our server would tell us that was the pour size.She spilled with every pour too.Wasted wine!Finally the bill: we asked to put two meals on one card, three on the other.Took her THREE tries. On third attempt we had to tell her "two meals at $44 each is $88." The food was delicious, but poor service sealed our decision to never return."

The ahi was perfect, the blue marlin such a surprise! And the ribeye was cooked to perfection. I think all of us at the table licked the plate!!   • "Many people do not know about the incredible dining experience that can be found at Uptown Billiards. They regularly conduct five course dinners with fruit and vegetable themes, when the selected thematic item is presented in each course in some unique way. I have been about six times and each dinner experience has been amazing. The last dinner was based on a chocolate theme (after all isn't February supposed to be about love, Valentine's and chocolate?) and true to form, this dinner combing both dark and white chocolate items lived up to expectations. The prices including the wine pairing with each course are very reasonable for what you get. This is a neighborhood gem but is also one of the best dining experiences in Portland."

All in all, we had a wonderful time and will try and go to another event like this again."

At first we were worried that we would need to hit Taco Bell after because the servings were small but by the time we had finished our dessert, we were all totally satisfied. The wine pairings went perfectly with each course & you could tell that the chef put a lot of thought into each of the dishes. The wait staff were all very nice, helpful, & attentive. Really, I couldn't find a fault with them. It was a little loud in the dining area only because of the boisterous group next to us & also the occasional CRACK from the pool tables but nothing ridiculous. We played pool afterwards & had cocktails. 1 of the best experiences I've had in a long time & can't wait to go back!"

  • "I've been to Uptown for dinner a few times and it's always impressive. The menu rotates bi-weekly and the seasonally featured item is presented in all 5 diverse courses. This is easily one of my favorite Portland spots for enjoying excellent culinary treats. Make reservations in advance for dates or small groups up to 4 people. Remember to leave yourself a little time to find parking, as it's located on NW 23rd where lots of residents and businesses are competing for spots. I always get the wine pairings as well and was delighted with the reds selected during my last visit."

We had the five course meal with pumpkin as the featured ingredient. I think I have only ever had pumpkin from and can and didn't know so many delightful possibilities existed. The food was amazing.
