  • "Great evening. Waitress was excellent. Took a whle to receive our food. Overall great experience."

  • "kale salad and calamari were the best I have ever had!"

  • "A little disappointed this time. I decided to have the salmon salad as I've had it before and presentation was different (not that that was a bad thing) and the salmon was undercooked. I don't like to send food back so I tolerated it. I'll stick with my usual trout entree upon returning."

  • "Met some old friends at one of our favorite Southpark restaurants. 3.5 hours of unrushed good fun. Food was great. Everyone chose a fish dish. Cod, flounder or snapper. Just excellent. As always, service was exceptional from Susan. And thanks for stopping by to say hello, Christopher."

  • "Took my mom there to celebrate her birthday. She was very pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed herself. The food was excellent and the service was phenomenal. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to have delicious, high quality, well presented food. You really can't go wrong with this restaurant."

  • "I was very impressed with the food, atmosphere, and especially the service at Upstream. The menu offers a very wide selection of seafood, most of it locally sourced and only hours off the boat. Very interesting and tasty preparations using fresh ingredients. The service was fantastic for a Charlotte restaurant, where service is almost always lacking in many respects, even at so-called fine dining restaurants. The only thing I was not satisfied with was the wine list. Not enough creative and trendy choices. It needs to be updated."

  • "Our favorite local seafood restaurant for many years seems to be resting on its laurels. Turnover in the chef area in recent years hasn't helped. The menu could use refreshing. There is no longer the "wow" factor in the food. My fish was OK but could have used more sauce. The service is pleasant but not as welcoming. Do not let them seat you near the kitchen on busy nights. The chatter is reminiscent of a diner."

  • "Really liked this restaurant for the server and the unique touch (Asian) to seafood."

  • "It probably makes sense to move the food service area to the back room but the ambiance is not as good as when it was located in the bar area. What was a 5 star rating lowers to 4 on that alone. The tappa's are still an excellent idea that adds a distinctive and elegant touch but the quality was lower than previous visits. To be specific the egg dishes were slightly scorched and the crab cake tasted more like a fish cake (still good). For my taste some of the dishes were a bit over salted but my companion didn't agree. The buffet choices were acceptable but I greatly missed the omelet station (lowered the rating an additional star). The brightest points were service was friendly/professional and the seating/dining atmosphere is excellent."

  • "i have been to upstream about 10 times. mostly had been very good but seems to have slipped the last 2 times with food quality, service still average and nice wine list, appetizers were good, oysters and crab cake were great. the fish and my guest scallops were way too salty. we were suprised at the lack of attention by managment to resolve. nice new bar though. hopefull they will get the quality back soon or i want be able to recommend or try them again. to many other good choices in the charlotte area"

  • "Can't beat Upstream for food or service. It is our go to place for any special (or not so special) event!!!"

  • "The seafood was outstanding. Loved the muscles, tuna and sea bass. Each dish was better than the next. My wife and I ended up splitting the main courses because we couldn't decide which one we liked better. We had a great bottle of wine as well. The waiter was outstanding and had great recommendations!"

  • "76 degrees, lovely evening. Our waitress - Susan - was tops. Food was fantastic. The menu has a large selection of wonderful choices. Seafood is the specialty and it did not disappoint."

  • "Service was excellent. I ordered the fish special , which was not as flavorful as I'd hoped, but good. My husband's dish was great. He ordered the seabass. It was cooked well with wonderful flavor. We also ordered the calamari, which was not impressive. It was basically in an "organge chicken" sauce and a bit chewy/tough. I should have gone for the mussels instead. Dessert was interesting as they called it a deconstructed cheesecake, which was basically mascarpone cheese with syrup on top, a few walnuts and some uncooked oatmeal scattered across a plate. I have to give it to them - this is pure genius to pick some inexpensive ingredients, save the time of cooking it, call it some fancy name and charge a big price. Still overall good."

  • "Pot stickers- very good. Seviche- delicious! Sushi-artful delicious. Kale salad- a must have!l. Crab cakes-perfect. New dug potatoes- flavorful. Service-attentive and friendly (Nathan) . Nothing but the finest at Upstream. Our favorite in Charlotte. And the heated outdoor patio in early March was so pleasant and comfortable after all the "winter events" this past season in Charlotte."

  • "Upstream has the best seafood in Charlotte hands down. It is pricey so we save it for special occasions- this occasion being that we hadn't had a night out without kids in a very long time. The sea bass melts in your mouth. Our server, Lee, was very professional and personable. We were at a track meet that was running over and called to change our reservation knowing that on a Saturday night it might be difficult. They accommodated this without any problem. Upstream never disappoints!"

  • "This was our fourth visit to Upstream and we found it to be exceptional again. Every detail of the experience, from the greeting, to a drink in the lounge and being seated for dinner...all focused on the customer. They provide what many restaurants neglect, a concentration on the needs and interests of the people who dine there. Our server was knowledgeable, candid, sincere and efficient. Presentation was excellent, the food was delicious and we were not rushed at all. You leave the restaurant knowing that the money you spent was worth it."

  • "In town for work and this place was highly ranked. We were not disappointed. Amazing fish and sushi!"

  • "Prompt, knowledgeable service but not overbearing. The calamari is some of the best I have ever had. The menu had a good mix of seafood and other alternatives for the non-seafood crowd. Definitely on my short list to revisit."

  • "We've had brunch here many times before, but this is the first time we felt very disappointed. There was a decrease in variety, especially the hot dishes, and there was a shortage on certain things or not available at all even though it's on the tapas menu. Grant it, it snowed heavily earlier in the week and that could be cause for the lack of certain things. However, the omelet station could not keep up with the orders and people waited at least 20 minutes for their omelet. Also, our server was pleasant, but several times forgot to bring items we requested. Those certainly were not weather related. Not ready to give up on this place yet for one off day. Will decide on the next visit if standards change."

  • "Mussels starter , tuna and sea bass entrees were great....as was a bottle of great French Bordeaux wine... Lobster bisque taste great, but very Asian influenced. Coffee was very good (and served in a fun shaped handle on the cup)... Chocolate torte and caramel gelato.. needed more flavor in the gelato and torte not quite done enough (could be a one off quality for not left in oven long enough).. Overall, an excellent Saturday night dinner"

  • "We've brunched at Upstream many times, but lately its lost its charm. There's no WOW factor anymore and its simply just brunch. We used to love our Sunday brunch at Upstream, but after our last visit we made the call to wrap it up. No more Upstream for brunch. We will begin the search for the place that WOWs us with their selection and charm."

  • "This was my third visit to Upstream. The food and service was excellent each time. I always enjoy sushi as an appetizer and an item from their super fresh seafood selection for dinner. Two thumbs way up!"

  • "Upstream is one of my favorites. Particularly for lunch, where it is value for money. The fish is always good and being a Brit I really know a good "fish and chips" when I eat one."

  • "Food was great and service was even better. Ask for Nate when you make your reservation. He made our evening very special and we will definitely be back!!"

  • "I had the wonderful Sake Marinated Sea Bass which is one of their signature dishes!! It was awesome. My friend had the roasted Scallops with coconut curry. She has never eaten @ Upstream's and was very pleased with her tasty dish. We both had the flour less Chocolate Torte which will delight anyone that's a chocolate lover!!"

  • "We attended during restaurant week so it was out of the ordinary. Crowded, slow service and small portions. The food was very very good. Would love to try again when the demand isn't so high."

  • "I chose Upstream for restaurant week after hearing great reviews from family and friends. However iwas not impressed. The food was average, but the service was worse. Our waitress was more concerned with other tables than ours, and we had to constantly ask the bus boy to get someone to help us. On top of that our party was overcharged for dishes that weren't ordered, the food was undercooked, and the manager desmanor was like he wasn't concerned with our frustrations. I'm grateful for open table and restaurant week, because that's one restaurant that's crossed off my list and I will not be returning again."

  • "I love Upstream and I knew I was in for a great meal when my friend and I chose Upstream as our Restaurant Week pick. I was not disappointed and in fact was totally blown away. The whole menu was on offer with multiple choices at the $30 price point for appetizer/entrée/dessert and others that were a little extra but still less than the normal Upstream price. I chose the Kale salad which could have been a meal in itself. The kale was fresh and the pancetta was perfectly cooked and beautifully complemented the kale. I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked. My dessert was the apple crumble which was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Our server was efficient and helpful with our selections. This was a 10 +!"

  • "We booked a 245pm on mlk day during Charlotte restaurant week.Apparently the restaurant week offer started at 530 Basically waitor ignored us and when it was time to leave he bullied his way into a tip.I guess they don't see restaurant week diners as potential regulars, but rather second class citizens."

  • "WONDERFUL food!! We attended for restaurant week and it was a great deal because of the high priced entrees. Your must order the oyster appetizer - it was absolutely mouthwatering! We wanted to have our entire dinner consist of those oysters. The miso ahi tuna was beautifully cooked and the development of flavors was superb. The trout and flounder were good as well (risotto was absolutely delicious), but the wow factor is that Ahi Tuna. Dessert was probably the least enjoyable, but overall still good. The japanese frozen dessert was interesting to try. Excellent service and romantic atmosphere. Would love to return - just need to save up a little!"

  • "Restaurant week scallops and red snapper were perfectly seared with layered flavors. Lobster bisque and NC truffle shrimp starters were average, great idea, that lacked excecution. Apple crumble and cheesecake desserts had immense flavor that thoroughly impressed me. Ordered a spicy Hawaiian sushi roll as well, that had great flavor but couldn't taste the mango and had a little too much rice to fish ratio. Overall excellent food, superb service, and energetic upscale atmosphere. Will definitely go back for restaurant week or otherwise."
