Diner Reviews
  • "I took my office staff to Sunday brunch here. I was pleasantly surprised. They have a huge selection of food on this buffet. It was much better than expected. Food was very good as well. I didn't find one thing that was not very good. I'll go back."

  • "The food is ok. They feature Omaha Steaks which are of good quality but I just think the preparation was off as my rare steak was quite tough and flavorless. It is a very busy restaurant and the actual space is very pleasant but the food is more like eating at Chili's. Fairly expensive for average or below average food."

  • "Great food. The beer cheese soup is so good. Next time I will do the bowl instead of the cup. Chocolate creme brûlée was very good. We took it to go and the serving portion was more than adequate for two people. Need to frequent Upstream more often."

  • "I took my wife Vicki there for her Birthday dinner and we had a great time. We loved the Old Market building with the old warehouse look. The food was great and we absolutely loved the Bread Pudding dessert. It is well worth going there and we plan to go back soon."

  • "Service was great but the steak was medium well instead of medium. The steak was delicious but the edges were burnt. Soup was delicious. Never had Omaha steaks before. Had it been made medium it may have been of the steaks I have ever tasted."

  • "Jake did a good job as the waiter/bartender. The artichoke dip was great. Great place to visit for happy hour. I recommend going upstairs and eat."

  • "We decided to hit the Upstream while in Omaha. The hostesses were nice and we decided to sit outside to enjoy the view and the nice weather. We were not greeted for over 7 minutes. When we did finally flag down a server he told us, "We're busy, there are only two of us." He came back and tossed the menus on our table and left. I've been "in the weeds" before when I was a server, so I understand his frustration--THE MANAGER SHOULD HAVE MORE SERVERS ON THE FLOOR ON A FRIDAY--but do not toss menus at us and walk away. We actually had a different server, a young lady, and she was nice and got our order going. Food was out quickly, but it wasn't anything spectacular. Beer was okay too--just like other microbreweries--nothing special."

  • "We went to Upstream during the College World Series. It was very full. I was glad we made a reservation and nervous that it was going to be a bad experience. BUT, they got us right in, we were served quickly, drinks were kept full, & the food was well-made and delivered very quickly, as well. We got the fried pickle chips, I got the angelhair pasta with vodka sauce, which were both quite good and they allowd me to substitute chicken for shrimp without any hassle, and then I had the creme brulee, which was amazing! Rich but not overwhelming. Definitely would return and try a different type of food on their menu, the pizzas and burgers sounded great, as well. Seems to be something for everyone, here"

  • "Unfriendly wait staff. Food was not replenished in a timely manner. Round roast or whatever it was; raw and couldnt cut through it. Told the waitress and she acted as though she could care less. Not a good experience. I used to frequently come there but clearly service has declined. Would not recommend..."

  • "I was in Omaha for the weekend looking for a nice place to eat dinner before attending a performance at the Theater. The food was very good and it was nice to be able to make reservations on line. The noise level was good it was nice to be able to visit with friends and not have to shout. Prices were reasonable as well."

  • "Terrific calamari with banana peppers....a wonderful appetizer. Steak was good and very flavorful but the salmon tasted a bit old and fishy. Nice wine selection. "

  • "I made 6:00 reservations for our family of 7 to eat prior to going to the 8:00 show at the Orpheum. Holiday weekend and lots going on and I was hoping we'd be seated and served in a timely manner. The drinks were a little slow getting to us, but the quick food delivery more than made up for it. Everything was delicious and we had plenty of time to get to the show. The restaurant is loud, but not overwhelming. We were happy with this restaurant choice and will most likely do this again sometime!"

  • "We gave eaten here before and the food was very good, however this visit was very disappointing. The pot roast was extremely dry and even the dessert brownie was hard and even used a knife to cut it! "

  • "The service was very slow. Not sure if the waitress was overtasked or just not good at her job. Waied 20 minutes for the bill after asking. She also forgot to put half of the leftovers in the to go box. Food was great."

  • "I like this restaurant but it should be noted that I ordered the schnitzel I think it was, which was a lot more fried than I expected. It didn't seem very German. Regardless, there was like 4 and a half pieces of meat - more than any human could eat. It was such a waste. Decrease the portion size by at least half! It was ridiculous. My friends did enjoy their meals though. It was slightly better than your average pub food. If you order this meal - make sure it's for two!"

  • "Several people ordered burgers in our group and the difference between one well done and another were way off. I'm not sure how than can happen when they are right next to each other on the grill and the order went in at the same time. Another person's steak was way under done as well. Everything else was fine, but for the price you would think the grill cook would do a better job."

  • "I recently moved from Arizona and had to find a place for a business meeting with someone from Colorado. I chose Upstream because of location and the fact that I had eaten there once in 2005, which I enjoyed my experience immensely. This location turned out to be completely perfect for our meeting and the food was fabulous for both of us! I can't wait to come back again to try more items!"

  • "I've been to Upstream for lunch and dinner many times, hadn't had their brunch. Server was friendly and attentive, and handled my (to him) unusual request for a wheat beer mimosa with grace. Buffet was appropriately priced for the selection available. I was disappointed in my omelet, rather bland and with unmelted cheese, but the other selections were quite good, in particular a spinach-artichoke pasta salad and the bread pudding french toast."

  • "Food was not good. All was cold and meat was to tough to cut and eat. Would not go back for brunch. "

  • "Had a very good well-proportioned meal with excellent beer (of course). The server was perfect, attentive but not bothering. They were very accommodating regarding the reservation, also. The only con was the high noise level which would be hard to control."

  • "The Upstream is a classic choice for dining in downtown Omaha. The brick building is neatly renovated and it has some interesting history behind it, ask a server. I think it's mostly known for its brewing. There's always new seasonal beer to try. The place is pretty good at coming up with interesting brews. The menu is not terribly expansive, so you might feel limited there. But the food is good. Mine was a little bit spicier than I expected."

  • "A group of friends and I, 6 people total, met there before the Ron White performance last friday. We started with drinks and appetizers- fried pickle chips & artichoke/spinach dip, both very delicious. We each ordered something different as a main course and all very good with no food complaints. The only negative (for some) is they only serve the beer that they brew. My boyfriend was a little disappointed, only because he is not very beer adventurous and just wanted a Bud Light. Overall.... a very good experience. We all were more than satisfied with the food, taste, presentation and portions. Definately recommend."

  • "I was disappointed that we had reservations and they tried to put us for dinner at a high top table in the bar. I told them the table wasn't big enough for dinner, and they did give us a regular table, but I was not impressed as there were several tables open when we sat down. The waiter was very good so I do not want to deminish his service by saying the service was not good, as it was just the hostess. Otherwise the restaurant was good, but not sure I will go back."

  • "We chose Upstream because we enjoy trying different beers. We were not disappointed. The food was good. The service was great. Highly recommend making reservations through Open Table. We dined there on a busy Saturday night and were seated immediately because we had reservations."

  • "This is a nice blend of pub and food. Even if you are not partaking of the spirits - we find it a relaxing and most importantly offering some very tasty food choices. One of my favorite sandwiches is the reuben and I would like to see the beer cheese soup served with a straw:) All of the menu items we have tried we have found fresh and flavorful . We have always been greeted promptly and table service has been excellent."

  • "We eat here every time we visit Omaha. Wouldn't consider anywhere else. Staff manages a huge influx of people that visit this restaurant."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "First off, definitely make a reservation if possible. It always seems busy whenever we visit. The restuarant was pretty loud and very busy and our server almost seemed annoyed when I had a question (I had never been there before). Not only did he not give the other person I was with any drink refills, he barely seemed to care we were even there. The food was pretty good and the beer was amazing, but unfortunately my service was not. I still would recommend Upstream due to the good food and beer."

  • "We arrived right on time for our reservation and because of our reservation on 'Open Table,' were ushered in to our waiting table past a large group of individuals who were standing around waiting for seats. The décor was very nice, the service was friendly and the food was wonderful. I will be back.."

  • "The food was good. They cook their steak a little under, but it was delicious. I tried brussel sprouts for the first time and now I am addicted! I was a little sad about my trout though...the oil musn't have been hot enough...the breading on it was really greasy. The beer was exceptional. Very creamy and lots of flavor. My favorite is the raspberry lager. I took a growler home with me. :) We had an issue with our server. He didn't really know we were there after we ordered our food. We had to flag him down several times to get assistance, like jump up and down waving our arms. Maybe he had a lot of tables that night.but it wasn't swamped in there and we made a reservation and were stuck by the kitchen door with all of the traffic"

  • "My companion and I dined just after 1-p.m. Sun., March 9 2014. The hostess took us upstairs to the bar area, where we were promptly seated. We ordered the beer flight (samples of various flavors/styles of brew), which arrived promptly and was explained pretty well. After that, it took a while for our server to come back and ask for our order. In fact, I had to flag him down. Afterward, the service was good, but once again there was no one to notice we had finished our meal and conversation, and were waiting for the bill. While my companion went to the rest room, I had to motion to the bartender for our bill. The place didn't seem too busy for the service to be a little more attentive."

  • "Artichoke dip, beer and salads were great. We were highly disappointed in the margherita pizza. It looked like they took 4 slices of cheese and 1/2 melted them on top. Crust was burned and there was no flavor."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "We enjoyed some great food at the top of the stairs. Not the best seats in the place but it was okay. Not too disruptive despite the flow of patrons and staff going by only 4 feet away. Great seafood dishes. Mahi Mahi special was excellent. So was the Salmon. Wine was good. Waiter was attentive but not hovering. Nice meal out before heading to the Theater."
