Diner Reviews
  • "Had a very good well-proportioned meal with excellent beer (of course). The server was perfect, attentive but not bothering. They were very accommodating regarding the reservation, also. The only con was the high noise level which would be hard to control."

  • "The Upstream is a classic choice for dining in downtown Omaha. The brick building is neatly renovated and it has some interesting history behind it, ask a server. I think it's mostly known for its brewing. There's always new seasonal beer to try. The place is pretty good at coming up with interesting brews. The menu is not terribly expansive, so you might feel limited there. But the food is good. Mine was a little bit spicier than I expected."

  • "A group of friends and I, 6 people total, met there before the Ron White performance last friday. We started with drinks and appetizers- fried pickle chips & artichoke/spinach dip, both very delicious. We each ordered something different as a main course and all very good with no food complaints. The only negative (for some) is they only serve the beer that they brew. My boyfriend was a little disappointed, only because he is not very beer adventurous and just wanted a Bud Light. Overall.... a very good experience. We all were more than satisfied with the food, taste, presentation and portions. Definately recommend."

  • "I was disappointed that we had reservations and they tried to put us for dinner at a high top table in the bar. I told them the table wasn't big enough for dinner, and they did give us a regular table, but I was not impressed as there were several tables open when we sat down. The waiter was very good so I do not want to deminish his service by saying the service was not good, as it was just the hostess. Otherwise the restaurant was good, but not sure I will go back."

  • "This is a nice blend of pub and food. Even if you are not partaking of the spirits - we find it a relaxing and most importantly offering some very tasty food choices. One of my favorite sandwiches is the reuben and I would like to see the beer cheese soup served with a straw:) All of the menu items we have tried we have found fresh and flavorful . We have always been greeted promptly and table service has been excellent."

  • "We chose Upstream because we enjoy trying different beers. We were not disappointed. The food was good. The service was great. Highly recommend making reservations through Open Table. We dined there on a busy Saturday night and were seated immediately because we had reservations."

  • "We eat here every time we visit Omaha. Wouldn't consider anywhere else. Staff manages a huge influx of people that visit this restaurant."

  • "We really enjoy Upstream. The food is consistently very good and we LOVE the beer. The call in seating also makes the wait short."

  • "First off, definitely make a reservation if possible. It always seems busy whenever we visit. The restuarant was pretty loud and very busy and our server almost seemed annoyed when I had a question (I had never been there before). Not only did he not give the other person I was with any drink refills, he barely seemed to care we were even there. The food was pretty good and the beer was amazing, but unfortunately my service was not. I still would recommend Upstream due to the good food and beer."

  • "The food was good. They cook their steak a little under, but it was delicious. I tried brussel sprouts for the first time and now I am addicted! I was a little sad about my trout though...the oil musn't have been hot enough...the breading on it was really greasy. The beer was exceptional. Very creamy and lots of flavor. My favorite is the raspberry lager. I took a growler home with me. :) We had an issue with our server. He didn't really know we were there after we ordered our food. We had to flag him down several times to get assistance, like jump up and down waving our arms. Maybe he had a lot of tables that night.but it wasn't swamped in there and we made a reservation and were stuck by the kitchen door with all of the traffic"

  • "We arrived right on time for our reservation and because of our reservation on 'Open Table,' were ushered in to our waiting table past a large group of individuals who were standing around waiting for seats. The décor was very nice, the service was friendly and the food was wonderful. I will be back.."

  • "My companion and I dined just after 1-p.m. Sun., March 9 2014. The hostess took us upstairs to the bar area, where we were promptly seated. We ordered the beer flight (samples of various flavors/styles of brew), which arrived promptly and was explained pretty well. After that, it took a while for our server to come back and ask for our order. In fact, I had to flag him down. Afterward, the service was good, but once again there was no one to notice we had finished our meal and conversation, and were waiting for the bill. While my companion went to the rest room, I had to motion to the bartender for our bill. The place didn't seem too busy for the service to be a little more attentive."

  • "We enjoyed some great food at the top of the stairs. Not the best seats in the place but it was okay. Not too disruptive despite the flow of patrons and staff going by only 4 feet away. Great seafood dishes. Mahi Mahi special was excellent. So was the Salmon. Wine was good. Waiter was attentive but not hovering. Nice meal out before heading to the Theater."

  • "Artichoke dip, beer and salads were great. We were highly disappointed in the margherita pizza. It looked like they took 4 slices of cheese and 1/2 melted them on top. Crust was burned and there was no flavor."

  • "made reservation day before outing. very accommodating, staff friendly. & food very good. prices vary from mid to high. nice size resturant. all types if crowds from family to business, even romantic."

  • "We were seated upstairs for a business dinner, there was a large group sharing the upstairs with other guest, the noise level was off the chart loud. Ordered the special Red Snapper, fish was rubbery, overcooked. Have always had great food and great service at Upstream, this was my first negative experience."

  • "My reservation was for 6:15pm for two. The table was ready when we arrived. The waitress was very attentive and our food arrived in a reasonable time. At the end of our meal the Manager approached us which I was thinking he was going to ask us how things were going. Instead he asked us if we would move to a different table. He needed my table to accommodate a large party. Since we were almost done with our meal and I did not want to cause a fuss I told him that we would be finished soon. We really didn't need to move. As I was signing my name to the credit card receipt the Manager approached again asking us if we are going too finished soon. We did leave at 7pm but I thought the manager was rude. They should have planned better."

  • "Everything about our visit here was excellent except I ordered a dish and asked if it had onions in it. The menu lists ingredients in each dish and it mentioned mushrooms but didn't have onion listed. The waitress left to ask someone, came back and said it had scallions but they would leave them out. I said great. The dish came and it was packed full if huge onion pieces. If the dish is half onions then it should be listed as such on the menu. We were on a time limit so I picked around them and ate the rest. Bummer."

  • "We had a nice early dinner on New Year's Eve before the big crowd arrived. Service staff were all very courteous and friendly even on this busy night. The menu is a little tired. I would like to see more interesting options for entrees. Husband did order the special which he said was delicious. I had the pork schnitzel which was good but nothing special. The wine selection was excellent and reasonable. Also, the servers and chefs were very accommodating when we asked for substitutions for sides with the entrees and appetizers. Noise level was a bit high but it was a busy night. We will return to Upstream again. It's a nice place for lunch or Sunday brunch outside in the summer!"

  • "We went on a friday night and it was so busy we had to flag down our waitress twice via other servers so we coud order dessert and get our check. But the kitchen was very quick to get our food out once we ordered, and the food was delicious."

  • "We were two sets of parents that came to Omaha to spend Christmas with their sons and families. Us parents were close friends from Virginia. We met to dine together and introduce our sons and their families to each other. The seating, food, beverages and ability to converse without a great deal of background noise was ideal. Well done!"

  • "Our food was served by very friendly and personable servers and our main server was one of the best waitresses that we have had the pleasure to encounter! The food and ambience is wonderful, selection of entrees and superb in house brewed beers are great, too! Recommend the Omaha Steaks ribeye & the Raspberry Lager!!!"

  • "Met some friends for lunch and had a great time. Service was good but not really fast, at our request...We had lots to talk about and had not seen each other for a while, so it was good. It was Monday right before Christmas so it was very busy. Food was warm and yummy. I would certainly recommend to all to enjoy a meal at Upstream. Then shop the Old Market!"

  • "The Upstream promises great home brewed root beer and exceptional beer and ale, to excellent food in warm and friendly atmosphere and it delivers exactly that. Our group ordered the pot roast, raspberry chicken and a couple of burgers, all to rave reviews. Hot and flavorful, cooked to perfection with just the right seasoning and sides to make the event memorable. Couple this with attentive and prompt service and we definitely rank the Upstream among the must-visit-again places in Omaha."

  • "We had a reservation...got right in and were seated. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. I can only speak for my food. I ordered broc. cheese soup...it was very salty...I couldn't eat it. My son (who isn't picky at all then tried it...he agreed). A piece of dark bread came with it which was delicious. The atmosphere in the Old Market is good, but I probably wouldn't go back to this place if it was my choice."

  • "Great specials, service was outstanding. Food was delivered hot. Had a large group, table was ready. Made a reservation that day on-line. Menu diverse."

  • "Highly recommened by hotel people, store personnel, good reviews on Trip Advisor, but we were not pleased. Beer is watery and bland, food was overly breaded, overly cooked, and greasy. Good atmosphere, bad beer, bad food. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but based on our experience, highly overrated."

  • "We had out of town friends join us for brunch. The buffet was great. We had plenty to choose from and it was all very tasty. My wife had a reuben which she said was excellent. Overall the we had great visit, great service and great food. Thank you."

  • "Dinner after work with 5 was very relaxing, yet still a professional and sofisticated time at the Upstream in the Old Market. Excellent food, good company, great service and of course a nice cold brewed beer topped the night. Large portions allowed for some to take home food for lunch the next day. We enjoy the Upstream whenever we visit."
