  • "We dined here last Wed. night and as always were impressed and delighted by Chef Todd Barrie's ambitious and varied menu and unique setting. Highlights included a stunning lobster BLT on brioche, a hearty fig, goat cheese and prosciutto flatbread, a refreshing Dungeness crab and cucumber roll, a vegetable risotto, a blood orange Caesar salad, a trio of tapenade including olive, hummus, and eggplant, a sticky toffee pudding. Marilyn Snee oversees the accomplished wine program and a glass of sparkling rose was the perfect accompaniment. Service was exemplary. At a $100 for two before tip this is hands down the best gourmet bargain in town. Open Wed. thru Sat. for dinner only. All that's missing is its own off ramp from the 405."

  • "Saw the menu and the variety of red meat interested me. Went here with another couple and it was a nice change. The menu is set up by wine pairings. The options are numerous and interesting. Best thing: bison flank steak. Noteworthy: meatloaf, pleasant surprise. Skip the elk, too dry even when asked to cook medium, which is was not, disappointment. Wines excellent."

  • "This is a great place to go and try all kinds of great food in portion sizes for two to four people and try different wines with food. The waiting staff makes it easy for you to figure out the menu and have a great time. It was also reasonably priced.I will definitely come back."

  • "Upstairs2 is a right next to the 405 Northbound onramp on Cotner Ave. The room is basically a small upstairs banquet room that the store uses in a variety of ways. My wife and I have been up there for wine tastings, for a New Year's Eve party and this weekend as a last-minute idea for dinner. The food is exquisitely prepared and not pricey. The best part, however, is what they do with wine pairings. Our server, Morgan, listened carefully listened to our wine preferences and then surprised each of us with wines that we not only loved but were also perfectly matched to each dish (we only had a first and main course plus dessert). Decor is simple with soft lighting and warm atmosphere. Upstairs2 is a gem that should not be missed!"

  • "Stopped in with my husband on Wednesday night, thinking it was Wine on Wednesday menu (which is amazing). We were there on the fourth Wednesday (Wine on Wednesday is week 1 and 3), so were disappointed. But the regular three-course tasting menu was superb! We had a pasta to die for and the most incredible veal chop,wine samplers with all three courses, and extra glass of wine -- our out the door cost was $125. A bargain for a great meal. .And Marilyn was lovely as always."

Because the place is relatively small by today's standards, you feel like you're eating in someone's living room. The staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is no hassle.   • "I love this place. I often bring friends there as it's a relaxed, easy atmosphere, perfect for chatting. I've never had a service misstep there (pretty rare in LA where every waiter is a famous actor... almost, and behave accordingly), and their wines by the glass are fantastic value and well selected. The charcuterie is great, elk is great... totally worth a visit."

Wish we sat a little farther from our table neighbors though, we could hear the conversations going on to our right and left extremely clearly, and they could hear ours..was a bit awkward.   • "Valentine's Day and a pre-fix dinner. We were ready for a nice evening. However, when we sat down we discovered that the menu was for two. My wife doesn't eat red meat and I don't like fish. Not having a choice of food we would both like, we left. we cannot believe a restaurant would force people into one type of meal. My wife would have loved to have the seafood and I the steak. But no, not at the Upstairs 2. Lame."

Everything we ate was excellent. 6 plates for a group of 4 was perfect (waitress tried to tell us we needed 12 for a group of 4 which would have been way too much food). Loved the food so much we are going back this month with out of town guests. The scallops and sea bean salad were my favorites!"

Portion size in upscale restaurants tend to be small and I walk away hungry- but not so at Upstairs 2. All of meals had good portion sizes. We will definitely return."

What makes it so special is the imaginative and inventive cooking paired with an extraordinary selection of wines and cocktails. No matter what the order, each plate is presented in an irresistible way, and the flavors almost always match the eye-appeal of the food. I like that the menu offers so many small plates and that the menu guides one to excellent beverage choices -- and then there's always master sommelier Marilyn Snee to offer her considerable expertise (I think she's without peer in this regard). Once in a blue moon, a dish will disappoint, this time the spring rolls were too creative for me: cold, wet, flabby = not good! But overall, exemplary!"

  • "I went to Upstairs 2 as part of Dine LA week. I had a salad, cod, and cheesecake and it was all quite tasty. But I probably wouldn't go back here because it wasn't I didn't find the dishes to be very cohesive and, thus, it isn't quite worth the price to me. Also the service was quite slow. On another note, the restaurant has plenty of parking, which is handy ... if the parking attendant in the main lot tells you where the overflow lot is."
