Diner Reviews
  • "I had been to Upstairs 2 twice before and loved it. This time, however, they hit it out of the park. We were a party of ten, late night, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and gracious. There was such a huge variety of food on the table, I won't even attempt to cover it all. I will say, though, that the optional shaved black truffle on any dish, made for some very happy palates! A great time!!!!!"

  • "Upstairs2 fits the bill for my go-to neighborhood spot. It's quiet enough for me to relax, it offers enough to satisfy my food/beverage cravings, the quality of food is high, and it is reasonably priced. There's nothing great about the location or views, but the parking is convenient and I can almost always get a reservation. I am definitely sold on it and will continue to come back."

  • "We dine here about once a month, it's consistently fantastic, never disappoints! Morgan was our waitress, for the second time in a row, and she is so wonderful, as is every waitperson in the place.. Food was fabulous as always... i think it's our favorite place to dine! C Davis"

  • "I was looking for a place to go last minute to celebrate an anniversary and a birthday that night with an out of towner. Went to Open Table and got a table. All three of us were thrilled with the meal. The food is tastey, well proportioned, and reasonably priced. Everyone shares and there are exactly the right number of bites to give all a good taste of an item. The waiter was knowledgable and helped us eat and sip our way through the menu in an adventurous and satisfying manner. The restaurant even brought out a dessert with a candle without being asked. The proverbial good time was had by all and one of us, me, doesn't even drink. You won't be disappointed. I don't know why it isn't on more great LA places to eat lists."

  • "A delish dinner with a friend. We split the Venison Ravioli, Grilled Artichokes and the Moroccan Chicken. It was all perfect - from light and delicate to bursting with flavor. I'm surprised every time I go - there's always something new to try. The scene was lively with lots of regulars, all met by name at the front desk. Our waitress, Morgan, was the best, explaining everything and making great suggestions. Thanks Morgan! I enjoy bringing friends who have never been here before and watching their faces as they taste the food and sip the wine, all paired beautifully. Can't wait to go back again."

  • "After being on the road for the week and having meals that ranged from uninspired to bad, we came here for the good food and wine. Best of the meal - mushroom ravioli, great blend of flavors with a clear but not overwhelming mushroom taste. We overordered since everything sounded so good, and if we were to do it over again we would pass on the crispened eggplant. Good but not wonderful like everything else."

  • "Met up with a friend for dinner here. The service was excellent. You must try the grilled artichokes and the crab cucumber roll. We love this place because the menu is always changing with the seasons and the wine selection is to die for. If you are not sure what wines to order the owner or waiter is always ready with a suggestion. We will be going back soon."

  • "This was our second time at Upstairs 2, and we'll be back. The food is excellent - we even like the small portions. The service is very friendly and attentive. It takes a bit to figure out the food and wine pairings, but in the end you just pick what you like."

  • "My daughter suggested I not eat here because she had several unmemorable meals several years ago. We ordered appetizers, entrées, extra side dishes and dessert. Every single dish was excellent. I don't know if they changed the chef or what other changes were made but I highly recommend this restaurant. The pairings with wine were also excellent."

  • "Small plates are best, nice homemade tastes. Larger "main"courses not as successful."

  • "I do appreciate Upstairs 2's objective;helping diners match wines to culinary selections offered on the menu. Unfortunately it is difficult to fully comprehend what food choices are available.... the menu at first appears to be the Wine list, only after careful study does one find the food. It is difficult to see what is an appetizer, main course etc... otherwise the food was excellent"

  • "We felt the food was nothing to write home about but the wine and the servers knowledge of the wines is what would make us return"

  • "We all ordered different wines after discussing choices with a well-informed server. We were all delighted with our choices. Some of us shared our appetizers and entree items which worked out well. The broiled chicken was ok; the meatloaf excellent; the Moroccan chicken delicious as were the lamb chops! Dessert was enjoyed and this birthday celebration was enjoyed by all."

  • "We went to Upstairs 2 for my birthday. We have seen the chef/ owner on a t.v. show called "Chopped" This is how we pick a lot of the restaurants we go to in Los Angeles. Parking is great! Food Amazing! Wine expertly paired with foods. Had the Venison Ravioli, Bison Hanger Steak as our favorites of the night. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any body! Oh and the prices are moderate and it is almost like a tapas menu. Lots of fun to share!"

  • "Great place to go if you want to dine out with friends... terrific food (small plates sufficient for four to share), terrific wine (it's associated with the wine shop downstairs), and quiet enough to have a conversation."

  • "Primarily a wine bar with many, many excellent choices of varying prices, the small plates menu is also great. Service is unobtrusive but knowledgeable. In a strange part of town, but has good parking."

  • "I always love this restaurant because I like to eat lots of different things in the same meal. I particularly loved the lemon pesto shrimp this time. I love the fact it lists suggested wines for each food selection. It's a great place for vegans and vegetarians too as there are so many vegetables options."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant on the West Side, possibly in all of LA. Food is fabulous, gourmet cooking. Love eating tapa style and their wine matches for the dishes are brilliant. Not the most appealing interior, but they've done everything to make it nice and have quiet (curtains, carpet, etc.) A number of table have to be placed side by side. I recommend going early and savoring your meal, but if you like loud and "happening" scene, I hear it starts about 10 and goes to 1:00."

  • "We are Upstairs 2 fans and eat there as often as we can. Usually bring friends and they all love it, too. This small plates restaurant/wine bar has a habit of out doing itself time after time. We all had the main lobster tasting menu with wine pairings and every course and pairing was perfect. And you get a lot for your money here. I always leave there feeling lucky to know a little secret that I can happily share with those who do know."

  • "We have eaten at Upstairs 2 probably 10 - 12 times in the past few years, and it's always incredibly delicious. The wait staff is fabulous... everything about the restaurant is always top of the line...the small plate selections are so creative and always terrific.. I"m sure we'll return soon, we just love Upstairs 2!"

  • "The experience was very disappointing. They messed up our order and forgot to order one of the entrees. Then when ordering dessert, it was only 8:20 and they were already out of our dessert choice. We've been here before and had issues with the services as well but not as badly as this time. The food is very good but I'm not sure it's worth the overall poor dining experience."

  • "I came with friends of mine for the DineLA menu and was very pleased. The ravioli were light and creamy, the salmon was cooked perfectly and loved the homemade sorbets! The wine pairings were on point and service was friendly. A good time had by all!!!!"

  • "Went for DineLA. My server greeted us with a smile, I think his name is Sean. He was knowledgeable and efficient. It took me a bit to decide on my menu, so many great choices. I decided on the creamiest tastiest ravioli with the melt in your mouth garlicky tomato sauce. yum!! From there I chose the salmon; it was fresh and the basil beuree sauce was really tasty. I was so stuffed that I decided to order the Hibiscus and Peach Bellini sorbet; both were light and flavorful. I also ordered the wine paring, the pinot was my favorite. My friend ordered the crab rolls, she said they were so fresh and sweet. I can't wait to try them next time. She did not want to do the wine pairing and asked the Som for her advice, bravo. I will be back."

  • "Food at Upstairs 2 runs the gamut from meat to seafood to vegetarian options. Dishes are well prepared although some come across as too rich and heavy. Presentation is beautiful and the wine list reflects proximity to The Wine House downstairs."

  • "I had such a wonderful time at Upstairs 2. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and their wine list is amazing. It's a perfect date-night spot with the romantic lighting and candles. The veal shank was amazing and the cheesecake was the perfect end to my meal. I will definitely be coming back to Upstairs 2."

  • "Menu was confusing. Steak was overcooked, veal short ribs had little meat, desserts were pot tasty, will not return Menu was confusing sirloin was over cooked--salad was weird, service was poor"
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "we went for dine LA ordered from that menu. We had beef and it was fairly tasteless and not a great cut of beef, even though it said grass-fed.the desserts were fair. The best things were the ravioli appetizer and theroast potatoes that were with thebeef. I might give it another try but if its the same next time I won't go back"
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "Service was pretty abysmal. It was dineLA week, so perhaps that was why. But wine pairings were dropped off with no explanation of what they were. and the 3rd course wine pairing came well after the 3rd course. The waitress seemed to disappear for large stretches of time (and much of her time was spent hanging out at the bar), and it took her 2 tries to get the credit card split correct. Not what we expected given this restaurant's reputation."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "We had the three-course DineLA meal and everything we had was very good. We also had the wine flight and, as you would expect from a restaurant above the Wine House, the wines were well-chosen and very interesting. We will certainly go back to this restaurant for an ordinary meal before long."

  • "My best friend and I took our significant others on a double date here for restaurant week. We all ordered similar foods, we tried the crab cake appetizer, sirloin steak, veal, bread pudding and sorbet. In addition we each went with the wine pairing for an additional $20. Pros: Ambiance was very nice, it is a small restaurant so it feels intimate Wine pairing--I am not usually a pinot person, but the choices were excellent Staff--our waitress was very friendly and attentive Sirloin--I really enjoyed my steak and I think others did as well Bread pudding--It was rich and tasty and exactly what bread pudding should be Cons: The crab cake was good, but I wouldn't go back just for that Spicy Marg, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't that special"
