UPSTAIRS 2as advertised with great smallas advertised with great small plates, great wine selection, reasonable cost.
overworked but there to please wait staff deserves their tip.........don't get cranky if slight delay.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a typical wine barThis is a typical wine bar with tasty small bites and good wine selections. We have eaten there before and most probably will again. There was one off putting experience that might make me hesitate, in the future. It was very clear, after the bill arrived, that we were no longer welcomed guests. A visit to our table by the hostess made it very clear that we had outstayed our welcome.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAWESOME!!Great food paired with great wines...worth every penny!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal but had to wait too longI would have given service a 5 except we had to wait over 25 min on uncomfortable stools for our table even though we had a reservation and had to ask for some things multiple times. At least they could have given us a glass of wine while we waited or comped our corkage fee. Everyone was very apologetic and incredibly nice and friendly and thanked us for our patience and explained they were slammed by a lot of walk ins. Otherwise we really enjoyed it. Staff was knowledgeable and super friendly, restaurant wasn't so loud we couldn't talk, food was outstanding, "tasting" portions were actually generous, they gave us a nice table, parking easy. We'll go back but they need to do a better job of honoring reservations.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Wine and food were excellent! Had a fantastic evening there.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to go backWe've now been twice and loved almost everything we've tried. They have a phenomenal menu that is incredibly varied but also reasonably priced. My wife and I usually split 5-6 dishes and a bottle of wine and we can get out for under $150. Definitely try Upstairs 2. We can't wait to go back again.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSample unusual plates & wine pairsDefinitely a different experience. Unusual small plate dishes (all very good) and wine pairings - be prepared to mix and match. Lobster BLT fantastic. Duck salad (with leg/thigh of duck) ok - but much better items on the menu. Staff very very helpful. Follow their advice!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful place with an excitingwonderful place with an exciting menu & wonderful food. One can even talk, no loud music. What a thought!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGood spotEverything we tried in terms of food was good. We started with a few cocktails which were good, but not mind blowingly great. We also brought in several bottles of wine which they happily opened for us. We paid a $10 corkage for each of those. We truly enjoyed ourselves overall but felt that the decor needs a refreshment. And service was a little scattered as there were only two servers taking care of the very full dining room. All in all, a good spot to dine if you're looking for something off of the beaten path.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMgirls night outwent to celebrate a birthday with 5 long time friends and had a terrific time. We ordered many different dishes and shared everything. We liked it so much, that we were talking about what to order next time!!!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMwish all rest. were this fabulousUPSTAIRS 2, run by its chef Todd and the always gracious and upbeat Marilyn is simply GREAT.
The flatbreads, the elk, the antelope, the salads, the veggies, the fish - the hardest thing is to decide what to order. Take your time, order by courses, UPSTAIRS 2 is patient and does not make you order fast. It is truly luxurious and relaxed eating.
Go and go back over and over!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden Treasure! This place is completely off the map and not exactly in a good neighborhood. But the wine selection is excellent and their pairings are fun. Portions are small but delicious! We will definitely return!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat wine service as youGreat wine service as you would expect. The tapas style menu is great as it allows you to taste through several dishes over the course of the meal.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceThe game meat was good there. We ordered the pre-fixe menu that came with the wine pairing. The flavors of the dishes were to the right amount. The baison sausage salad was surprisingly my favorite dish, but I also enjoyed the quail. The wine pairings were done nicely as well. The crowd is an older crowd, but the experience overall was great.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDivine Dining! We have come to Upstairs 2 several times for dinner, and each was a culinary delight! The menu options are so varied, creative and perfectly prepared. I love the portion sizes - it makes trying more selections irresistible. The wine list is spectacular, and there are many other great cocktail and beer choices. From start to finish, (don't miss the Sticky Toffee pudding with vanilla gelato) it is a wonderful place that you will definitely want to come back to often.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat an absolute gem this place is!I made a reservation here because The Six was booked and OpenTable said Upstairs2 was similar. Upstairs2 also got really great reviews from other diners, so it seemed like I couldn't go too wrong...and it turned out to be really great! I had a very tasty basil gimlet cocktail to start, then my friend and I ordered four small dishes to share: lamb meatballs, duck cassoulet, the trio of tapenades, and scallops with saffron risotto. All of them were out of this world. And I really love small dishes; one big plate of the same thing can be boring, and I like the variety of ordering several things at once. The service was very friendly and attentive. You must try it!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMtasting menuThe food, while not extremely innovative, is always elegantly prepared, with very good balance to the flavors. I love this place mainly because o f the wine pairings. I always trust them to find interesting wines that will match each dish AND each wine is served in the appropriate stemware which many restaurants don't do. But this restaurant is above the Wine House so no surprise that they are so knowledgeable. The $47 tasting menu is a great bargain. It includes 3 courses with 3 wine pairings.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways greatMy husband and I and another couple meet for dinner at Upstairs2 at least once a month and have never had a bad meal here, at very reasonable prices, with lovely ambience, and a knowledgable wait-staff who are prepared to answer all wine or food questions. If you are on their mailing list for e-mail updates, you can get notices of upcoming special prices on fixed-price dinners - great bargains, featuring distinctively interesting and tasty dishes. Once inside the restaurant, peace and quiet reign, and the ambience is lovely, although this is hard to imagine as you stand in the parking lot, on top of a wine store where you will be looking right at the 405 freeway. Never fear. Once you step through the door, you will be a happy diner.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn exceptional placeEven the computerized reservation software was good; and the food, five small plates, was uniformly tasty and creative. Also, the dessert was up to that high standard. The server and the busboys were very competent, and the server was engaging and gave knowledgable suggestions.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Small Plates! We loved the interesting flavors and the portions were very nicely sized, unlike many "small plate" restaurants which are so overpriced for the tiny portion you get! This was a great "deal"!!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMwine vs foodSuperb venison and polenta was the highlight of many delicious dishes. the advantage of their mini-plate (almost tapas style) portions is that you get to sample multiple dishes, or to choose to not over eat. Everything we tried was delicious, and the wines were excellent as well.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoyableSupergreat wine steward and dependable kitchen make it a local favorite!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMShh!!! Don't Tell Anyone ElseOne of the best places in LA to get small plates with a great selection of wines that pair with them by the taste, glass, carafe or bottle. An evening there is a special treat. You will eat and drink well no matter what your taste or what you order and if unsure about wine or food, trust your server. If it gets any more popular, you'll have to know someone to get in, so keep this between us!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNever judge a book by its' cover ..Or you just might miss this hidden gem. The restaurant is tucked away on the top floor of what appears to be a general nondescript office building. The surrounding neighborhood is also less than to be desired shall we say. However, when you drive up the ramp to park and enter the space, you are magically transported to a trendy upscale dining experience. The food is outstanding and if it is your first visit, definitely go with the tasting menu. It is both reasonably priced and provides a great overall sample of all the dishes and wine parings. It is definitely a different dining experience at Upstairs 2, but highly recommended. You cannot go wrong here.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemOn the second floor of a liquor warehouse, this gem is only open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday. When the word gets out, that should change.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMService a bit slow. ShortService a bit slow. Short staffed? But otherwise good4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I each had theMy wife and I each had the 3-course fixed price dinner for $47, in which each course was paired with a different half-glass of wine. Truffle-themed salad, pasta, and meat dishes. A great concept at a fairly reasonable price.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good, wellThe food was very good, well presented and quite reasonably priced. But what really sold me was the vast selection of wines in 2.5 oz. pours. This allowed me to have the right wine with each course. The menu is cleverly written in a way that makes choosing the right wine easy. We will definitely return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Truffle menu! TheFantastic Truffle menu!
The food is organized on menu by which wine goes best! Terrific idea4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it here! Medium sizedLove it here! Medium sized plates. Finally a place to go and not leave feeling so stuffed you have to be rolled out :). Great place for a date! Lots of wine too--you can try lots of different wines with the 2.5oz pouring option.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful service...food iswonderful service...food is consistently delicious!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMa total hidden secret I'da total hidden secret I'd been meaning to try for years and finally the stars aligned and so glad they did. the crab cucumber roll is a total standout dish but then again so were the flautas. The waitress made an excellent wine recommendation. one of the best I've ever had.
and free parking to boot.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night out.During this first visit back to US2, the execution of the food, which had been uninspired during a prior visit, emerged this time as polished from start to finish. If memory serves, the menu itself also showed greater innovation. Don't miss the duck cassoulet or the blood orange salad.
The only negative worth mentioning was the ambient noise, although even this reflected tight seating and a capacity crowd which might appeal to some.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at this restaurant,First time at this restaurant, and it was wonderful in every way.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the place. This restaurantWe love the place. This restaurant serves fine wines at reasonable prices. The small plates are excellent and reasonably priced. This must be the best value in town.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMchefs Whim rules! These folks really know wine and how to highlight what makes wine spectacular. I always enjoy this place.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLeisurely deliciousRemarkable restaurant. Upstairs 2 has a great and varied menu. One of our dishes was grilled elk, another grilled artichoke . Something for everyone!
Service outstanding including management on site . So delicious, and somemjoyablentonorder dishes as you go along. Corkage fee is also remarkable- ONLY TEN ($10) DOLLARS.1/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant and wine barThis restaurant and wine bar is one of our favorites. The wine selection is extensive and reasonably priced. Many wine are available in two sizes of glasses, by 12 oz. carafe, or by bottle. The food served in small plates is quite good. The service is excellent. The total bill is shockingly small. This place continues to be one of the best values in town for those who demand fine wines.
Of course we shall return ,,, many times we think.12/14/2012 12:00:00 AM
