Diner Reviews
  • "Saw the menu and the variety of red meat interested me. Went here with another couple and it was a nice change. The menu is set up by wine pairings. The options are numerous and interesting. Best thing: bison flank steak. Noteworthy: meatloaf, pleasant surprise. Skip the elk, too dry even when asked to cook medium, which is was not, disappointment. Wines excellent."

  • "This is a great place to go and try all kinds of great food in portion sizes for two to four people and try different wines with food. The waiting staff makes it easy for you to figure out the menu and have a great time. It was also reasonably priced.I will definitely come back."

  • "Upstairs2 is a right next to the 405 Northbound onramp on Cotner Ave. The room is basically a small upstairs banquet room that the store uses in a variety of ways. My wife and I have been up there for wine tastings, for a New Year's Eve party and this weekend as a last-minute idea for dinner. The food is exquisitely prepared and not pricey. The best part, however, is what they do with wine pairings. Our server, Morgan, listened carefully listened to our wine preferences and then surprised each of us with wines that we not only loved but were also perfectly matched to each dish (we only had a first and main course plus dessert). Decor is simple with soft lighting and warm atmosphere. Upstairs2 is a gem that should not be missed!"

  • "Tried the Prix Fixe "Wine & Dine" dinner, and were completely satisfied. The wine pairings were good, and interesting, but the food was even better - every course was very good."

  • "Wonderful Westside gem. The food is delicious and portions are perfect for tasting, as the selections are rich and full of flavor. There is something on the menu for everyone! My daughter-in-law is a vegan and said the vegan selections are excellent. The wine list and tasting options are outstanding. The energy is high and upbeat. Love it!"

  • "Very good restaurant, the chef is inventive and well balanced in his flavor profiles. Lots of interesting choices, priced right, and I like the weekly prix fixe with wine samples. Altogether quite enjoyable..."

  • "Stopped in with my husband on Wednesday night, thinking it was Wine on Wednesday menu (which is amazing). We were there on the fourth Wednesday (Wine on Wednesday is week 1 and 3), so were disappointed. But the regular three-course tasting menu was superb! We had a pasta to die for and the most incredible veal chop, wine samplers with all three courses, and extra glass of wine -- our out the door cost was $125. A bargain for a great meal. .And Marilyn was lovely as always."

  • "The food and wine pairings don't come any better. However, the food stands more than well on its own. Because the place is relatively small by today's standards, you feel like you're eating in someone's living room. The staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is no hassle. Each time I go, I appreciate Upstairs2 more and out-of-town guests always enjoy their experiences there."

  • "I love this place. I often bring friends there as it's a relaxed, easy atmosphere, perfect for chatting. I've never had a service misstep there (pretty rare in LA where every waiter is a famous actor... almost, and behave accordingly), and their wines by the glass are fantastic value and well selected. The charcuterie is great, elk is great... totally worth a visit."

  • "Food was fantastic as always and we got lucky again to have Jessie as our wait person... she's terrific! I can't wait to return... one of our favorite restaurants!"

  • "I was completely surprised just how wonderful this place is. I heard about it for years, but we never went before now. We often like eating Tapas style or simply appetizers. This restaurant satisfied our desires. We opted not to do the wine pairing, but will next time we go. Simply wonderful food, great service. I am hungry to go back. I have already told some of our friends!!!"

  • "Great romantic spot for Valentine's day. Wish we sat a little farther from our table neighbors though, we could hear the conversations going on to our right and left extremely clearly, and they could hear ours..was a bit awkward. Overall, food was delicious, service was superb, and the ambiance was perfect for dinner occasion!"

  • "Valentine's Day and a pre-fix dinner. We were ready for a nice evening. However, when we sat down we discovered that the menu was for two. My wife doesn't eat red meat and I don't like fish. Not having a choice of food we would both like, we left. we cannot believe a restaurant would force people into one type of meal. My wife would have loved to have the seafood and I the steak. But no, not at the Upstairs 2. Lame."

  • "This restaurant is worth going to because the food is between good and very good and the pairings of wine make it all taste even better. It is not atmospheric because it's too crowded and noisy so maybe it's better to go mid-week."

  • "Great service with good food. Only knock would be tables are just too close together. We had to slide the table like 5 times so people can get out next to us."

  • "Surprisingly great food and great pairings. Went in with an open mind and very glad I did. Food was exceptional and the service was spot on. Didnt realize they had such nice gems in west la. Will def go back and recommend to others"

  • "Clever menu pairing food to wine varietals. Delicious food, especially the crab wrapped in cucumber appetizer, and the elk. Very helpful sommelier Marilyn Snee. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly and we got to chat with guests at other tables about our wine."

  • "Food was excellent, service was attentive. However I felt very rush, busboy constantly rushing to clear the table. They need to slow down to let the customer enjoy their meal."

  • "Wine is the emphasis here, although the many small plates are excellent. A few of the "small" plates are actually rather large, so ask your waiter. It's a great place to try a number of different wines or buy that special bottle. It's also perfect for long, drawn-out meals."

  • "I had no idea there was a restaurant in this neighborhood, let alone one as good as this. It's the perfect place to eat before after a show at the Landmark on Pico. The menu is varied and creative. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "This was our first visit to Upstairs2.. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was excellent. Our server was charming, knowledgeable and friendly! The food was outstanding! The wine list was excellent. Wish the Dine LA Menu was on the regular menu! Eager to return!"

  • "Nestled in between Smart and Final and a strip club, this place is a hidden gem! Everything we ate was excellent. 6 plates for a group of 4 was perfect (waitress tried to tell us we needed 12 for a group of 4 which would have been way too much food). Loved the food so much we are going back this month with out of town guests. The scallops and sea bean salad were my favorites!"

  • "The DineLA menu had many choices and easily accommodated our group. The food was delicious and nicely plated. We also had the wine pairings which introduced us to some new wines. A thoroughly enjoyable evening."

  • "Always great service, very attentive, very friendly. Every dish was terrific, period. Especially liked the Dungeness Crab Cucumber Roll, it was superb. The Jordon Chardonnay paired well with the appetizers. I can't wait to find another good reason to make the trek there."

  • "We tried to get in for DineLA last year and weren't able to get a reservation. We did this year and it was excellent. All of our main dishes were terrific. Portion size in upscale restaurants tend to be small and I walk away hungry- but not so at Upstairs 2. All of meals had good portion sizes. We will definitely return."

  • "The fabulously diverse menu and wine list, sublime food and welcoming staff make this a place to dine at again and again if for no other reason than to delight in tasting everything on the menu. Don't miss the Potobello Mushroom Ravioli and the Sea Bass Veracruz. If you're adventurous, try the Sea Bean Salad and/or the Elk. Marilyn, the General Manger, goes out of her way to ensure that her patrons are satisfied."

  • "This is a hidden gem. Tucked away in an industrial area of West LA, Upstairs 2 offers a memorable and sophisticated dining experience that completely belies the neighborhood."

  • "Upstairs 2 became a huge favorite LA restaurant from my first visit 4 years ago. What makes it so special is the imaginative and inventive cooking paired with an extraordinary selection of wines and cocktails. No matter what the order, each plate is presented in an irresistible way, and the flavors almost always match the eye-appeal of the food. I like that the menu offers so many small plates and that the menu guides one to excellent beverage choices -- and then there's always master sommelier Marilyn Snee to offer her considerable expertise (I think she's without peer in this regard). Once in a blue moon, a dish will disappoint, this time the spring rolls were too creative for me: cold, wet, flabby = not good! But overall, exemplary!"

  • "I go there a lot. It's a great place to relax, eat really great food and have a conversation with the person/people you are dining with. This time for DineLA. The menu with wine pairings is perfect, though you'd be hard pressed to go wrong no matter what you choose here. Just do it!"

  • "Our party of four had a wonderful time from the moment we arrived and enjoyed the easy going atmosphere. The wine and drink list is varied and sure to have something for everyone. We all loved the small plates and variety of noshing choices. We are all looking forward to our next trip back."

  • "I've been twice so far and will be back again. Both times the service has been great. Sitting quickly, service staff very friendly, food excellent. Loud, but can converse. Mixed crowd of all ages. Great parking, don't need to valet. Wines good and reasonable. Can't wait to return."

  • "I went to Upstairs 2 as part of Dine LA week. I had a salad, cod, and cheesecake and it was all quite tasty. But I probably wouldn't go back here because it wasn't I didn't find the dishes to be very cohesive and, thus, it isn't quite worth the price to me. Also the service was quite slow. On another note, the restaurant has plenty of parking, which is handy ... if the parking attendant in the main lot tells you where the overflow lot is."

  • "I searched and read reviews of over 25+ restaurants reviews until I finally decided that Upstairs 2 was the place for dinner our last night in LA! This place did not disappoint. Everything for appetizers to dinner was outstanding. If we could have we would have ordered everything! The wine pairing suggestions were great too. This place is hidden gem and if you are picky about your restaurants, in terms of good, different, and variety of dishes then this is a must try!"
